Ramblings
of an Eccentric Soul...

Hello and welcome the world of Guru Panguji aka gurupanguji! My log, blog and ramblings with or without a clog.

A Minor Comparison

With the advent of Open Source systems, there is a technology boom happening all around us. How do we cope up with thistechnological boom? There are twoways people react to this - 1.] Be Blissfully ignorantand 2.] Try and cope up by a constant update. Imyself felt this jump of technology recently and I wasblissfully ingnorantof this boom myself. Why are we notin touchwith technology and why are we not feeling bad about it? Right from our early days, we havebeen spoon fed by the education system - subjects taught in the class with one sole objective [completion of portions], uni directional assignments given [exam oriented], tets conducted[out ofprevious years question papers] and so on.... We have been forced to stop thinking by the education system of ours.I am talking about the majority of us here and not about the few who have broken the chains of exam orientedstudies.People have lost the trainof thinking somewhere. We havegot into this pattern of hardly attending classes, studying a week before the exams, scoring high because of the stupid repetitive nature of the question papers. We have forgotten the art of analytical thinking, the joy derived fromsolving problems, and researchingmore on subjects [many people have never felt the joy of all this,as they never had to]All we do today is mug up some portionsthat form partofa syllabus, which by itself we take forgranted. We never for once see the whole pictureof what we are studying. Although we canconveniently excuse ourselves, by saying that it is not our fault but thatof the general society, it is painful to know that we arenot doing justice to the subjects.I would like todo a comparison study here of thegeneral educationlevel of computer science students between American universitiesand of the Kerala University. The average American university student spends upto50% of his spare time in co curricularactivities. [Spare time here defined by the timespent outsidecollege minus average sleeping time [6 hours]]. The average trivandrum student, I havebeen noticing has nothing per se called cocurricular activities [again as the society does not view that such activities can go hand in handwith any studies ]. The average American student spends the remaining timeto read up more on what he isbeing taught and further research on that. Here, we hardly have time apart fromcollege time. I have no idea how Iwaste my time, but it is gone, and I am dead sure that i don't spend half of it on studies!!.Btw, I am not saying that wedon'thave a good life or anything of that sort, but this comparison, is just a piece of news as towhat wecould expect from the students of these two Universities.

Late to Bed.. Late to Rise.. Makes man ... what???

Since our early years we have been hearing this adage - "Early to Bed, Early to Rise, Makes man healthy, wealthy and wise". How true isit for the current generation? Most of time I find thatI am doing much better time-spending late atnight, while others areasleep... Some peaceful time for myself. I can almost feel that I can accomplishanything during this time. However, almost any time that I spend extra into the night, I have to make up time for it by biting that much into the day time. Also, everytime I supposedly "oversleep" asit is so caressingly put by my mother, it ends up in a big dispute with the bloody cliche put again into mymind. Isomehow heartily disagree to that saying. Maybe out of egotistical satisfaction, butIpersonally do think that it is BS.

One thing I cannot do for most of time is acceptance sans proof. Maybe the scientistinside me demands the justification,or maybe it is just the way I am, I hate things leftunjustified [I have always found thatonceujustify ur stand, nobody dares to uproot that!]. As someone rightly said,"Knowledge is POWER". Anyhoo, so I will try and justify why I think that age old sayingis BS.Beforetrying to scientifically justify my stand, I also want to state some minor philohere, and gain some time to think onwhat the hell Iam planning to present to refute. There are many types of people in this world. People from many differentcountries, backgrounds and so many social differences. So if people can accept thesepeople with their views on life, often contradictory in nature, whycan't a simple change in that saying not be acceptable? Furthermore, what proof other than fictional, states that "earlyto bed and early torise" is the way it oughta be.

Scientific Research provesthe fact that different people have different high times and low times. It is during these high times in a day that theyare most productive. As in a day there are 24 hours, and the time period of "hightime" lastsonethird a day = 8 hours, the possibility that a high time could actually start from any of these 24hours and end 8hours since then. Nature itself has allowed night creatures for survival. Although forthe nightcreatures it is moreof a day constraint, I think this could suffice for proving the fact that productive hours vary forpersons, andthe saying as such cannot be generalized!

Furthermore, I don't recall exactly when, but I read an article in "Express Vibes" about the different people's timings on sleep, and studies. That had some good stuff on this subject.. I am trying to recover the article through the web-site, but have not yet found it. But, in that they had mentioned that there is no generalized ruleas to the best time people can study. It is a matter of choiceandcomfort.
=>I personally feel that I can study bestfrom around 10:30 in the nite to 12:30 and then wake up and 6:30 and continue. But, that is as far as studies are concerned.
=>I feel that it is duringnighttime [12:30onwards thatI am able to concentrate on say programming and reading [general, say fictionor something along the same train]
=>Another thing that I have generally disagreed with is about listening to music and studying [watching TV also counts]. Here too, parents have a general fixture that if uare listening to music, then you cannot have theconcentration to study, and their argumentsreach an apex when it comes to watching TV and studying. Although, both of them being electronics engineers and living in the world of multitasking computers, somehow, they cannot perceive the fact that the human brain - many times more powerful that the computer processor can also multi-task. . I fail to understand the logic here as well.

Enough of cribbin for the day.. I have to prepare a time-chart and prove to my parents that I would be able to handle a TIME [MBA Management studies course - prepfor CAT] and my collegestudies as well. Well, I guess Ishould be doing something to please them, coz after all they are providingme withthe moolah! So, will get back tonite with the continuous bitching on LIFE. I am thinking on something about "Dreamsand Aspirations and how Parents can easily kill both"

Exams - The Right Notes

Exams - the note through which we mark the end of a year [semester] and often end up playingthe wrong note with a completely oblivious crescendo. The big music symphony carefully marked with its superb crescendos and minuendos, through the strong forte afterthe first series, and the gusto after the secondseries are allovershadowed by the finshing note - often the wrong one as I mentioned before! Why do we always keep the thingsto the last minute is a question that I have asked myself often [previous day/ dayof the xam ofcourse]. Is it a way of life that we have to just acceptor can we consciously change - and if at all we take the pain, what arethe gains? Are the gains worth the effort to hold thatfinishin note a littlelonger toadd to the effect? And if at all what effect???

Symphony Over -Exams conclude

Exams are finally over! Computer Hardware Designmarked the endwith a big low! I found that studying at the last minute does not help in anything but muddle up your concepts.. make it a muddy puddle!!! Oftenuend up thinking about something else... most ofthe time.. what plans after the exam. How many times have I thought that I would study some time before the exams and prepare myself for them? But, I have realized it time after time that Icannot keep up ther resolutions...[Don't evenget mestarted on my newyear resolutions....].Well neways at the end of the xams, how do I feel. Is it elation that the exams are over and I have done fairly wellor is it the feeling of good riddance hmmm... :-?.. I think apart from thesetwofeelings there is one more at play here.. the feeling that I can get on with my daily life and stop worrying about the binary life for sometime [it is binary more orless isn't it??? in s5]. What I feel right now is that I can get back to designing crap, playing games, gear up for a new semester... and close another chapter on the unresolved book of "Undergraduate Life!!". Apart from that, it is back tolate nightsof wasting time by modifying thestylesheetsof the home-page and make loadsand loads of what i so caringly term "crap".

Changes in the web-site!! Part II

In the middle of studyingfor my C-exam, I decided, that if at all I blog, I should do so using my site and my styles. So, I decided to start working of "Blog It!! V0.1" a PHP script that will help me blog by just adding contents into a form via thenet/house server. So, wish me luck and in 2-3 days, I should be able todo it! Anyhoo,I am going to stop bloggin at Tripod coz it sucks.... and itis way too complicated to actually go to Tripod, and hope thattheir server is not overloaded to blog!! haha. So, in 2-3 days, I should have setup my first Blog Script! Yahoo!!!. I guess I should be off now, as I have to still study and write my C-exam...:-D. So far, so good, I need to brush up on some of my FILE concepts and pointer/functionconcepts and I think I should be able to do fine. Solong and hope to GOD that I improve my C marks this time. Cis one of my fav languages and I hate to have scored low in this subject. So, lemme see if I canmake an 80and above of the 64 that Igot last time.

Yay!! Blog script v0.1 is up and running

Iam so happy . My blogger script with an administrator control isworking cool!.I am planning to generalize the script so that I can distribute it freely.. :-D.. It willbe just a script and a sort of an addon... You may have to includeit most probs... Not sure as I can't see that far.. Planning to incorporate easy HTML editingnow, so that I don't have to hardcode the required format into the blog. :-]
I am so Happy..

Wow, I am really impressed with myself.. well that happens most of the time I decide to do something. haha

It feels really nice not to upload documents anymore as I can easily addblogs thru the net now. yay! This is my first blog using thescript I created. I am planning to make this an independent addon available to anyone who wishes to use it. Please feel to try it as soon I haveposted it into Current Projects

On to new stuff, my exams are finally over.. and I think I have done pretty ok... Hopefully I am able to retainmy position and rank. =D. So far so good. Now, I have to spend some time learning the crappy Database management of the PHPlanguage. GOD, I hate Databases.. But, I have seen it in action and it is damn powerful. So,I will recluse for sometime and learn how touse it. Other than that? I have made up some plans for going out.

=> Going to Mookambika on the 25th [a religiousplace] with my family and coming backon the 28th
=>I think that the college will reopenon the 29th so I think that Imite not be able to take the tripto Aatoor that my parents are planning[another religious trip]

Hmm...other than that, I guessjust somehow spend time...Cricket is going on, and INDIA has had a great win overseas finally... Boy!, Rahul Dravid is coooll.. Hez finally proved himself and Agarkarhas also proved himself.. Wonder if this is thechange that the Indians have been long expecting of the world's greatest team [India of course]. Neways, waiting for another week to see that ass**** Brett Lee in action at theMelbourne Test Match

Exams Over

Exams have concluded... I have completed the quota for this sem. Now what?? A single day into the hols has been aterrible experience so far. I am BORED beyond comprehension. I cannot even force myself to think and get started on something. Is this what happens after the xams??

There is no denying that the xams create a void after theirdeparture, at least for me. It keeps you busy while it lasts. You would be exercising your mind continuously, if not studying, at least fretting about the xams....Your mind is being continously used.

Today I dunno if it was due to nothing todoor what, but found myself completely baffled with nothing to do. I was getting scared ifI wasgoing to dieof boredom. Coz I couldnot bring myself to do nething at all. nethingthat I started I would grind it to a halt in the first five mins. I could not even bringmyself to sit infront of the Television, and keep staring at the box. Never thought that this wouldbe a problem to me.... :-D

The Idiot Box was no help, so thought the IDIOT BOX with a processor would provideme with a source of refuge from the dark cloud of boredom, but that too proved futile, thecomputer just gave its gleefulhum and I kept staring at the screen for a full 15 mins, without not even moving the mouse. All in all, I was in a completely mental locked up state, although the day itselfhad some high points. My site is now registered GOOGLE, and I wanna thank all those who have visited the web-site and enabledthe400 hits since 25th November.. Thanks a lot buddies... Love y'all

Laugh aloud-6 days and no blogs

I have been getting an awful lot of complaints in the past 6 days that mysite is not being updated! Well, hopefully this would stand up for the excuse... :D... Long time buds, I am studying Database connectivity with the wonderful PHP! haha..yeah I know, me the hater of databases is finally going in and actually studying one.. ;]... But, what to do, I kinda realized thatdespite me likingit or not, MySQL is a powerful tool.

So, I will hopefully be spendingsome time on that tohelp me manage my site. So far, the hols have been nothing great... But, I am hoping that it would get bettersincethe last week of unlimited freedom is drawing close. One more week and then it is back to the mundane life of SCT... But, then Idon't think that I would complain now,as I am really looking forward to S6... with lovely coolinteresting subjects [none scoring, yet all blissfully interesting].

Hmmm, apart from that, there is this thing that Appa is coming tomorrow... and I am hoping to have some time spent with him.. Hez damn interesting when he "drones" on subjects that others find "Boring". But, he really loves to talk and I am a good listener, we make a good team.. lemme see if I can canvas him into buying a good graphics card for the comp... ;] A Geforce Fx 5600.. yay!! that brings up some interesting things to do. So, hopefully will have time to blog in thisweek, as I would be leaving to a religious center called Mookambika this thursdayand would be back only on the 28th... SO A MERRY X'MAS to all of you!!! I will be back in time for wishing a New Year for allyou people.

So,lemme check out by saying... Enjoythe hols people, and see you on the 29th[for u collegemates], and rest ASAP.. ;]..

I AM Back

Back from the pilgrimage that I took, life is taking a breakas a new semester unfolds onto me. But, the exams have also shown their ugly butts and come back in the form of Lab exams. Have to start dusting my lab records [most probably give it a vaccuum, to cleanit off the inch thick dust that it would have already collected], and rehearsing answers for a few of the ever asked questions for the lab exams of COBOL and OOP Lab!!But, then again, life was kinda getting boring neways... ;]

nComing to some topics of the tour that I took, I came up with somequalifiers for it..:D. Bear them
n=> Eye opener
n=> Interesting
n=> Relaxing
n=> Comforting
n=> Religious

nI can go on... but lemme stop. Went to the Mookambika temple, and had a darshan of the famous Devi. It is the all in one form of Lakshmi, Parvathy and Saraswathy. She is supposed to be the deity for evergreen prosperity. Prosperity and deities apart, the place itself is really cool, with lush green pastures everywhere, and a mere 42 kms below from the place where Adi Shankaracharya ever made his debut [:D]. The place is filled with disciples and being the Christmas/festive season of Sabarimala, the place was really crowded.

nI was staying at a place called Bhageerathi lodge, managed by an Adiga [a temple priest] of the temple. The food was lovely, and the quarters itself cozy, although my parents thought otherwise.. ;].Coming to the topic of Adigas, they are some serious money makers. They arrange these poojas in the temple, and add service tax, godtax, special concession taxes and what not, and while you can do the same thing with some waiting yourself, these guys, allow you to enter w/o a wait, but charge you extra even for that.

nBeing a temple famous for its vidya pooja, I registered myself and my sisfor a Vidya Pooja, my parents for a Career Pooja and my grandparents for a Arogya Pooja [;]]. This was for an evening archana, and we spent the entire evening plus a major portion of the nite in the temple. If I remember rite, from around evening 5 till around late 9:30, during which we had our dinner [simple, butreally tasty food]. After that, we collected the prasaadams and thenaivedyams and returned to the room, where we sleptlate into the next morning.

nI have to say something here about the power of beleif/faith in GOD. If I remember rite, there are totally 5 instances in my life, where I have pleaded to God, for something to happen, and only when I least expected it, the cliched ray of light has been there for me. I amNOTa religious person, and in the old ages, I would be a disgrace tothe mere classification of a Brahmin. Yet,I do have faith in GOD, asan amorphous form. I don'tassociate GOD, to a specific form/shape, although the existence of deities are helpful. I prefer GOD to be a super power that is beyond comprehension kinda the SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR with system = everything in existence. :-D.

nOnto other things, college has started and s6 beginning with a real slow pace, although traces of s5 are still remaining in the form of lab exams. Wish me the BEST and hope that I ace the xams.

Happy New Year

Welcome 2004!!!! G'bye 2003. Wishing you all a HAPPY and PROSPEROUS New Year!!!!

Whatare the odds that I would be blogging this sitting in front of mylab computer with nothing to do??? Well, I am doing just that. Sitting in front of my lab computer, [supposed to be Compiler Construction Lab], we have been asked to do what we please, and guess what... I am BLOGGING. Well anyways, I find this boring as the keyboard that I am using is crappy with a small backspace. hehe.

Well, I am in the process of making a blogger for any user to come and blog into my site... I am hoping that it would be up by theend of this month!!! A sorta New Year Project and I am thinking of naming it NYP Blogger.

Please do feelfree and come and check it out as soon as it is released.

Phew: Mini Project Lab is OVA

Finally, the mini project lab is over and in went off quite well! One more lab to go - COBOL on the 9th..:D. Well, After that, it is going to be some serious studying/scripting. NYP Blogger will start formally on the10th. Also, I have come up with a brilliant [dunno how pragmatic] plan that will help me study.. YAY!.I am going to post Daily notes [lecture notes/assignments/tutorials] on my siteso that people could actually use it! This has well twoadvantages.
1. I get to do some daily lessons
2. I get moretraffic [hopefully notes aren't all that crappy ;]

Well, I finally foundout why my site got so much traffic. It was the trick of "Nano instructions" [thanku Dhanya Teacher]. It was only coz of that and MFCs that a good bunch of other collegers came to my site todownload the damn notes. [And to think they came to check out my cool site]. If not for my wonderfully thought out design of a single page dynamic page, this would never have had registered in GOOGLE! :D. Lol.

Hmmm... other than that .. will update soon, the musings and technical writings as I have been doing some research on the tweaking of Windows XP and disabling services. Coming up with a review of "NFS Underground", and Geforce Fx5600 graphics card!!!!

Check out for all that.. soon.. [Man, who the hell am I talkingto other than Harsh and Vedz and her mum! :D]. Nehoo, no harm in hoping that someone's listening out there rite. ;]

What does Pangu mean?

My name Pangu, as put by Gautam till today held no meaning for me unlike my actual names - Renganathan [named after Lord Renganatha] and Ravi [named after the Surya bhagavan]. However, the name Pangu after doing a small ego search brought about some interesting queries... Delving more into the Chinese mythology, I found out that Pangu was also the creator of the Universe according to one Chinese legend. What arethe odds eh!!??? Three names to me, all named after powerful, GODS!
Pangu Creates!
But, all "megalomania" apart, as Anju [my cousin] has so lovingly put in my guestbook, I have to pose a question that has been playing in my mind for quite sometime.
Is it rite to thinkthat you are the greatest, or taking it a slight notch down, that you are great?
So far after some deep pondering on this subject, Ihave actually not reached a conclusion with any finality, although I ritenow beleive that thinking that you are great[est] is fine provided you actually do think so. What I mean is the first step to self esteem is to start thinking that you arethe greatest. You don't have to worry about any chiding comments of anyone! When YOU think that YOU are great, it is nothing but a boost toyour morale. However, you should no overdo it by any extentas it is a very thin line b/wthe regions of selfconfidenceand over confidence.

Thinking that you are great mightnot be anything new to anyone of us actually. Rite from day one, I have actually beleived in myself that I could accomplish anything I endeavor in, provided I have the interest to pursue it. Also, Ihave noted that eventhough that you may be actually be able to actually do it, if you tend to think about urself doing it with a gusto, most probably next day you mite lose interest and drop the whole thing!

Sad News and Bad News

Today might be the last day in another week to come that I might be blogging. My net is being snatched away from me :[[. I may have to get back to uploading stuff into the site. All my trouble for creating an online management site mite be wasted. Anyways, I am hoping that I will be able to utilize the college net services and try and update my content at least once a week.

I am now trying to earn money and rent a modem from Asianet. I would appreciate if people would approach mewithany kind of help [be it buying stuff from the grocery or comupter programming]. I would be more than glad to help you out, in return for cash[plz no kind, as I need to raise enuf money to pay for the rental modem that I am planning to getfrom Asianet].

That is if I am able to generate enuf money :[[. Anyways,I am hopeful being an optimist;]. Well what else? The notes blogger is almost done. I will be uploading the lecture notes weekly. So people could check them out. Then I am coming up with a list of text books that you could really use for s6. So, going on a book hunt from tomorrow onwards.

Hmmmm... thinking about reviews and games, currently playing NFS Underground and it is a damn cool game. However, the new FIFA 2004, kinda overshadowed NFS Underground with itsstupendous graphics and game-play. Guess what? You can make each player of each team while youare playing the game and Live Commentary really really gets you intothe game. A must try out for any FIFA / Football fan. Will postthereview by the end of this week.

Well that is all for sometime to come I guess, unless I actually go to the lab and utilize the net.with the stupid small backspace key.. :[[ Haha... aren't I bickering a lot. Well, enuf for today. Guru logging off.....

Life without NET SUCKS

Woohoo, I am accessing the net from Anoop's place coz I am practising here for the Jugalbandi... So, thought I mite blog somemisery out of my system. Trying to stealthily use the modem did not work.. :-[.. Now, I am completely out of the net. No more net until I get the net or I start visiting the college labs or Anoop's house more often.

Well, so farso good... I am not all that desperate to go try and stealthe modem again.. but I noticed that now I play more than when I was using the net. Coz, when the net was there, Iused to at least learn something off Usenet and actually worked on some ofthe problems there although for most of the time, I had no clue what the conversation was about, but it all had to come to an abrupt end.

Nehoo,I am really really bored without the net... There is NOTHING to do other than PLAY PLAY PLAY, CODE, PLAY PLAY PLAY, CODE, SLEEP, PLAY PLAY PLAY... I think you get the point. FIFA 2004 is really keeping me busy other than college time.

Then, coming to the topic of college, S6, is really boring... the subjects are reallydamn interesting but boring teachers tear the beautifulgreat subjects into a mundane, monotonous BS. Dunno, when these turn interesting.,.. hmmm... maybe as soon as I actually get the textbooks and start reading them.:D

So... what else... this is cool coz I am actually able to say more.... when I am not blogging everyday... although the details of each day is missing. NOTEBLOGGER IS MADE and UPLOADED, however, have not yet started making proper notes...So what I have decided is that I will try and get online from college or from Anoop's house once a week and post the notes.

Oh yeah.. one more thing.. people who have flat panel monitors [LCD/TFT lucky buggars] my site looks the coolest ever in the 1024*768 res for u guys. I am amazed at the clarity and the bloody superb contrast available. WOWOWOWOWOWOW. Please do check out the site [whoever who come here often] in a flat panel display...

Oh yeah, almost forgot.. we would be performing [weas in band] in IIT Chennai for &qt POWERCHORDS &qt and would try and bagthe wow 50,000 buck 1st prize.. Please do hopeand pray for us that our bassist, Abin, is able to make the competition and we get the prize. This is a request that Iwant tomake to all you guys who visit the site, coz sans Abin, wewon't be even able to make the competition, and w/ Abin, we sureas heaven and hell stand a wonderful chance in baggin the prizes. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PRAY FOR US!!!!!!!!

Well, I gotta log off now, coz I hafta continue practice. Chal then tatataa

Mad Dogs and CrappyOSs

Hmmm.. long time no see my precious site. Well, embrace yourselves for another shocker as my cyber absence may continue for some more time. What are the odds that the Guru mite be made to go off the web-world? Well, neways, having this abundanceof the positive outlook that I usually have and pervade, I am looking forward eagerly to that day when I can get back the ADL modem that I have attached more sentiments to, than my text books even! :o.

So the Guru is not online, so what is he doing meanwhile? How is he spending his time? Do not worry people, coz the Guru has been pretty busy :D [No not what you are thinking] Staying offline has given mesome time to attend some real good concerts [or RockShows] as they seem to be called these days. [Coming to think of it, once Riff Trip aka Rough Record - mycollege band] has come into being, Rock Shows seem to staged for anything and everything :D]. Anyways, coming back to the Rock Shows, they were in asimple fragment - AMAZING! Two wonderful showsperformed by professional people. I enjoyed both of them. br>
One of them was at Nishagandhi in concurrence with the Rose Show, and the other was at Technopark for Tech-a-Break. I amnow going into a minute analysis of both theshows, and will go on to describing the shows..!!!
Nishagandhi Anoop was the guy who made me come to thisshow, and guesswhat, [yeah u guessed rite] he was playing. And, oh yeah, that guy keeps getting better!!!!!!! So proud to have him in our band. You should have seen him playing that day - simply superb! Well, the show itself consisted of Rock songs, ranging from Bryan Adams numbers, leaning on to Hard Rock with Deep Purple and Dire Straits. The singer was superb, especially, for Sultans of Swing [ a Dire Straits number], which they played Ditto!
Tech-a-BreakOh Yeah! Dig this - Mother Jane performing LIVE! Yup!, thatwas Technopark andboy oh boy, they just blew my minds off! If I had any superlatives for Nishagandhi, this has a spew of expletives! I mean, they were f***ing cool!!! [Pardon the language, but could not better my own superlatives]. Theband had the aura, charisma, and oh yes MUSIC that could make them one of my fav bands rite now!. Please feel free tocheck their web-site out Mother Jane India.com They performed all the songs oftheir album, Insane Biography, and 3-4 covers of Metallica and Iron Maiden. If ever, I wanted to see great bands performing live, my wish hadbeen answered! Ok yaar, no, they were not Metallica live, but they were damn cool! I am now an ardent Mother Jane fan

What really got me going aboutthe band was the simplicity and humility of theentire band! Agroup of Keralites, hailing from Cochin, and Calicut, they have writ history by releasing their albumlast year, and winning - BEST ROCK ALBUM OF THE YEAR FOR '03. Pleaseplease please Iimplore those of you who have not heard them, approach meand I will try and get you a copy of the album. It is defi worth listening to.

Hmm, had the first sessions of GD - Group Discussion [for the acronym illiterate], which made me really wonder as to how much I really know abt what is happening rite now, and how much importance I had given to what is happening. Yeah, I know what is gng on in Cricket, but that is not what I am talking abt. For eg, the group Iwas in was given the topic - Indian Bureaucracy, Boon or Bane? Now, given 15 minutes, the group was asked to discuss on this. Now, what did I do [not knowing what the hell Bureaucracy was], well basically nothing, and the GD maasha [mal] rightly judged the GD as BORING [YAWN material], Well don't blame him, but there was a Smart Alec amongst us,talking about nepotism and red-tapism plaguing the Kerala Bureaucracy which pays Rs 120,000 cr to its employees!!! YAWN. The GD maasha should have taken my topic - Computer Games :D. would have bet the crap out of the GD people [maybe with competition from Gautam, Shameer, and Sid]. ;]. Furthermore, GD sessions are really cool ... You just need to speak your mind and stop thinking abt it as a qualifying exercise, and it wouldbe A-Ok!. weeellll, just waiting for the next GD session so that I can gain back some ground I lost today with the stupid Indian bureaucracy :D.Well, gotta go now, Lab is a bit interesting - gotta make some One Pass Assemblers.. So until nextblog - ADIOS!!!!

My Poem

Hehehehe. Almost forgot, the Artsfest ofcollege was gng on, and I tookpart in Poetry writing. With a crappy topic given to us, I jostled up my rusting creative nerves, andthey produced something!. Well, this is all I remember from what I wrote - Read it and weep!

CLOUDY MOON
Sitting beside the bubbly river,
It wascold and I began to shiver.
Opened a bottle of some cheap red wine
Andtook a swig, although I knew it was bad for my liver.

----------------------------
I was not sobre, and was laying beside some gobar
Oh look at the cloudy moon,
I say it looks like a buffoon

-------------------------
-------------------------[Don't remember]
There seemed to be a red pall over my eyes,
As if the red wine was washing all my vice

I thought I grew claws, and I began to stutter
And then I thought, maybe I forgot to use the nail cutter
Why was all this happening, the wine?
If it was, then I'd kill that shopkeeper - that bloody swine

Of look at the cloudy moon,
Yeah, it still looks like a buffoon

Why do we take alcohol, its effects are weird
I know why, our senses they are cheered
There is another advantage, the alcoholics they are feared
Coz they end up sporting, a near weird beard

Oh Look at the cloudy moon!
Whoa!, it does not look like a buffoon

The effects of alcohol was taking its toll
Without moving, I took a stroll
My friend asks me, what is up w/ me and alcohol
I walked zig-zig and I took a fall

This, reminds of Black and White
A game, in which your ape can fight
Andthen there is RTCW, in which Anoop
Gets so scared, he forgets how to poop

I came back from the drunken trip
I wokeup and I heard something rip
I tried to wake up with a flip
Ended up at the hospital on a drip

Damn you, Clooudy Moon
Why do I have to end this poem so soon

thank youthank you!!! Yeah I know it has nothing to do with the topic, but hey, aguy hasto have some fun rite...:D

Riff-Trip strikes AGAIN

Think Heavy-Metal - Think Riff Trip! Yes, we have done it again, the college band, of which I am the vocalist [:D] have won the first prize at Ivanofest! Well, we would have w/o any doubt... just look at ourplaylist Ditto Metallica and other Heavy Metal songs.

A perfect blend ofthe songs, we started out with For Whom the Bell Tolls, add some more Heaviness and you get Wherever I May Roam, and to top it all, an almost perfect Sad But True...:D. And how did the audience react? Well, lemme put it in one word - DUMBFOUNDED. They basically had no clue what we were doing, but guess what? it did not matter coz, we had the near perfect4-piece band performing, one of the heaviest s*** in the world. YAHOOOOOOOO!!!!

Well, what next ??? We are now thinking of Adding Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets to our list, and we may be doing a Valentiness Day show atAmby! woohoo!!!!!!!

Well, that's all for now, will try and use the modem in the nite and blog more....and get ready for Riff Trip's site....will post the address soon!!! I am so happy :D

News! Riff trip Live vdos downloaded in Kazaa

Yeah, it is TRUE! Our video, conveniently renamed as Tribute to Metallica was downloaded in Kazaa completely! Woohoo! Had to share this news to the world. We are hoping that we get the cash prize this time - about 3000 moolahs! Well, when we thought things could not get ne better, we got an offer from Ambrosia asking us to play for Valentine's Day. What are the odds, eh? Well, while we are thinking about whether to perform there, please do mail any songs that you would love to listen to on VALENTINE's DAY.. at renganathan@asianetindia.com

Owwww.. my neck is aching! After some heavy head bangin that is, yea yeah..,again after the wonderful show. Well, nething that I talk about comes back to the show doesn't it? well it should, coz this was our bestshow coming after CUSAT, where we only won the3rd prize? But, that started the next Heavy Metal sensation - RIFF TRIP! [will come up with a betta name..:D ;]]

Posted on: 08-02-2004 @ 00:00:00 Comments:0

And an Ambrosia Later

Boohoo!.. Man, what a pathetic show we put up! We sucked downright! With no mixer and just 2 cubes, we managed to bring out some music [withing quotes] It seems the highlight of the day was - Leaving on a Jet Plane. Boohoo, all the feelgood factor after Ivanofest has become desperate and depressed factor! Those who missed the show, you were lucky!

Notso much for Sid though, who may have found his valentine, a Jammu guy! hehe.. well.. that is all fornow, we may be playing soon for DHWANI, that is if it is there! :[. Well that is bound tobe cool.... heehee.... think this way - IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA.. woohoo babey, RIFF TRIP would be back!

I am BACK

Long time since I blogged! Sorry abt that dear regular viewers of my blogs..:D The thing was that I was a bit busy withthe series and what not! Coming to the topic of xams, I got my s5 results.. I got 1009 = 84% and 1 mark.. [Actually quite a pathetic show for S5, but hey what the heck] LIFE MOVES ON and is not all that dependent on marks!

The series went off quite well with the results coming in fast actually. Already got myTC[ Theory of Computation] paper [for which I got 43 btw]. Vinod Chandra was quite on a rage after the distribution of the paper claiming thatthe class put on a pathetic results!

Well, back to some interesting stuff. RIFF TRIP joins hands with the CET band [esp Raju and Ibinu] and are planning to put up an uhum - Metal Show [not Rock show coz that is not what we play] for DHWANI '04! We are gonna kick some sorry asses this time with a HEAVY [wait a minute REAL F***ing HEAVY stuff] repertoire. For starters, letz kick off with the usual Metallica list
-> For Whomthe Bell Tolls
-> Wherever I May Roam
-> Fade to Black
-> Nothing Else Matters[not so sure]
-> Sad But True[oh yeah babey!]
-> Fuel
A New entry, we are hoping we will put on is Master of Puppets [yes u heard that rite! govindan is on a lead learning spree of the "Taliica boys]. If we play that, I am telling ya, it would be DAMN COOL!

We are also planning to increase the list by adding some IRON MAIDEN and SLAYER songs! Let us see how far that can be realised!

Neways, TIME is gng K! and I gotta attend that tomorrow foll which, wedecide the final list for DHWANI! Gotta meet up with Raju and Anoop and the rest tomorrow evening, and will post a follow up on the FINAL list including what the CET guys wanna play!

So out on 21st March 2004, LIVE AT CET, will be either ROUGH RECORD or SCREW-GAUGE out to ROCK YOU LIVE! Don't miss it forthe world! [and this time SAD BUT TRUE won't be FAST!. Really heavy, but slow enough for you to taste it as long as we play...:D]

Long time

Interesting! After a long time, I am blogging. It is not because of a lack on interest to blog mind you, butbecause of some troubling technical problems regarding the availability of the modem!.:D Well, now that the matter has been settled at least temporarily, I am back to bloggin!

It has been some troubling times in the recent past, what with the series andbunches of assignments and all the dressings related to the end of a sem! It is not yet over, for there still remain the submission of the programs for the CC lab, the remainderof the assembly language programs with the Mu P Lab! To top it all, I am under a virus attack :p. Yup, a viral fever.

Nothing new! except that I would soon be posting loads more stuff, and changing the look of theweb-site! Life is still going on smoothly. Loads of stuff to do that is all. But, who ever said, that keeping yourself busy is BORING?? ;]

Adios for now!

Back from the Ashes

Looong time! Yes! Somehow the urge to write for me has come down.. :[ But, I am getting back to normal [or the usual abnormalself]! I have been in a state of perpetual confusion these past months deciding what to pursue after my course in Engineering, as that is coming to a close FAST! The fight b/w a course of MS in US and a pursuit of greater pay in India with an MBa had always been plaguing my mind. I may have finally found a solution. I guess I am goingto give both of them a shot. Try as I might , I could not reach a conclusion to either of them. So, hadto take this decision! Now, comes the tricky part as to what abt the job opportunity immediately after my B.Tech!

Hmmmm.. I have decided to bank on the job as a last resort! I will definitely decide to pursue MS/MBA given a choice than a job is what I have come up with, coz I just love studying. It really does not matter what? Furthermore, that would really keep me gng now, when it matters most, and I could slack on my studies.

S6 xams are around thecorner, with the theory xams starting on the 18th and the lab xams closely following them. Should be free by June2nd week, by which time, i should have started on my main project as well get someplans gng for the completion of Industrial Training!

Me here only

Hello people! Mesa here only.. Itz just that I have not been blogging for a loooooonnnggg time. Mainly coz of loads of stuff happening in my life. Guess what? I am rite now at my College CAD LAB just b4 a TCS PPT. The entire concept is that I have been BUSY!!... Forget all that.. TCS is coming around the corner and I hope that I am geared up for it. There is a PPT [Pre Placement Talk for the jingoism] on the 16th. Two levels of elimination tests - one aptitude and the other psychometry [attitude]. This is a damn cool company with a successbase starting rite from the 1970s [were there computers then :-?]. Well nehooo, Ihope that I get thru.. There is a possibility that it should happen. Well, about 190 people are writing andif they take say 10 => 1 in every 19 people is the statisitc... Scary -YES very... but hey.. whatzlife if u don't test urself now and then.

Well, other than that there isanother cool thing about TCS.. which is that they are totally into processes and ceritification and CMM into fully! Well, guess i gotta go now and set up the LCD projector and all for the jing bang.Well hopefully blog soon as I am not sure if I will be free enough to indulge into this for another week or so.. 0:-]

I am an ASE-TRAINEE with TCS

Well, after a toil of two days, I am through into TCS - Tata Consultancy Services. Hmmm, if you would ask me how wasthe experience, I would have to say just one thing... Quite emotional. ;]. No, it was a tread upan acclivity. The steps had to be heavy :p. The elimination - gruelsome, some completely unjustified!

Goal 1 of objective completed - get a job. Now the remaining goals are pending.. Be able to choose an MBA if required [CAT '04] and have a decision foran MS open [GRE '05]. Well, so far so good. However, TCS was not all that great... They have taken only 9 of the 196 who had registered, which is quite pathetic, because despite all the tests and whatever practices they hold, they would be losing an extremelyimportant factor, which they quite never consider... TEAM PLAY! esp the effect that it produces, when people are already well aware of who would they be working with. I am not saying that it is not importantto make new friends.. please not that.. but the throughput of working with your best buddies is something phenomenal!

So far so good. I am a bit disappointed that my best buddies could notmake it through, but I also think of they other possibilities that they now possess - CTS [within college] and a helluva lotta companies through SHREDS. Well, now I hafta go and study for my Mu P exam tomorrow.. :[[. GOD, I hate this.. :p.. But, I am happy anyways. Tomorrow, I gotta start working on my two new projects...
- Website for Rotaract of Trivandrum Suburban
- Online Resume Builder.

Hmmm, I am thinking of making this resume thing work well.. :D. If anyone can gimme a feedback of converting an HTML document to Word,it would be useful. As of now, I am just planning to give the resumes as part of the web-site .. a link to your online resume.. ;]. well, hopefully, it will pick up and I am able to service loadsof people,as I found that an online resume is a defi must. You can just copy it from the website to a Word Document fornow. Furthermore, you can also allow the HR of the company to access it anytime theywant, with you keeping it updated all the time. Well, gonna start coding in PHP again and christen the project.. Hmmm, any names??? Well, don't worry.. shall come up with one soon.. :p..

Got the TCS offer letter

TCS has provided me with an offer letter, and I gotta accept it!!!! Woohoo!! I will be accepting it on monday. The pay is k! But, over the past week, I got a good response from many people who are in the industry rite now about TCS! It seems itz the best option as an entrant. Their training is unparallelled.. The only complaint.. the pay and they take the juice outta ya!. that won'tbe a prob for me.. got loads of fat to lose neways.. and I may just enjoy working in such an environment.

Guess what? Seminars are around the corner, and I have not yet decided on what to take my seminar on. I think it should be on Parallel Virtual Machines..as suggested by Mr Vinod Chandra [my lecturer for TC and AI] for the main project. It sounds quite interesting! I am gonna talk about it now just coz I got nothing better to do!!

Well, PVMs here are to be implemented in a Linux environment. There is a nw of Linux m/cs and they are connected in a hub [whatever be the topology]. What happens is one of the m/cs is a server. The entire system hafta work as a PVM - A parallel virtual machine
- Parallel: coz a job received by the server has to be parallely processed across the ready m/cs n the system
- Virtual: coz itz not actually a parallel processor.

Well, the project is to implement such a system and then a performance analysis of the network and load balancing. Sounds interesting.. HELL YEAH!. hafta learn about Linux, GTK and JAVA. Well, couldn't askfor a better project and Vinod Chandra has agreed to be our guide!! :D. Well so far so good.

Seminar topic is still to be decided though. I think I will take the seminar on this itself coz that would gimme some insight into the project as well.

I am gettin bored of typing. I am gonna work on the online resume builder. Something that could come outta this entire job hunt!. Btw. TIME AIMCAT 01 results out! I sucked at it. Have a TVM Rank of 74 and an ALL INDIA RANK of 950 :-&. Sickening. Gotta make upfor the next test!!!

Goin to EKM

Yo ppl. The shards of incongruency of life hits again with my trip to Cochin. Going there to utterly confuse myself again [if I get a job at Siemens Information Systems Ltd]. So, why? I could give bogus reasons like, I feel more secure with 2 jobs in hand, or totest myself. But, frankly speaking, I have no IDEA other than to meet Madhavi. Oh Yeah! After almost a year, I will be meeting her. :x. I may sound like a lovestruck buffoon, maybe, but shez practically my best/ beast of a friend :p for a whopping 13 years.

Also heard EKM is hep and cool and all bollocks. :p. No offense cochinites.

TIME is going OK, after the first AIMCAT. The results devastating, and all the more depressing. I have an All India Rank of 950 and a centre rank of 74. Compare this to my previous performance of a centre rank of 18. :o Yeah I know... creeps the hell outta me andI only take comfort in the fact that this time, the number of wrong answers was the case that brought my rank down. Hari has an amazing All India Rank of 135. :O =D>. Something wrong with my blog page as the fonts and the buttons are not adhering to the style sheet rules. Hafta give a check on that.

Siemens Information Systems Ltd

Hmmm... the eternally perpetuating incongruencies of life strike again.. :p Yup. I got thru Siemens Information Systems Ltd. The good part..woohoo I got another job [23k approx/month].. the bad.. quoting Yashwant Kanetkar [a guide through the meanders of interviews and aptitude tests.. "Indecisions Indecisions Indecisions"..

EKM was GOOD in all aspects. Got a job, got to see Madhavi [:x],had a trip to my native place and back in an auto and came back on a bus back to TVM [quite a nice nap on the bus too].

I started off on the Chennai Mail from the TVM station. The journey was smooth enough from TVM until Kottayam came and the train was filled with chirpy aunties and disgruntled uncles. Wehad to give away our seat to one of these couples [we had booked sleeper tickets btw]. Gautam was in the mood to traverse the train and search for greenery ::grin. Well, Anoop and me also had nothing to do and we decided to do the same. What happened after that was that we encountered some foul smelling bathrooms and ONE cute girl [Talk abt BAD LUCK]. :p. Well, all this while, things were boiling up to a good excitement.. Yup, I was gonna meet Mad [woohoo].

Talk about it later. Me in the lab and gonna see abt San Andreas - the next in the GTA series

Whoa LONG TIME

What have i been up2? many may ask!! Well, not making myself useful other than rambling on and droning and thinking about Transmigrations and other weird concepts mainly coz of a feeling of uselessness pervading all around me!

Life hasbeen quite bleak in the past week. What with the heightening of me entering a depressedmood. The week was BAD and I do mean BAD. But the endproduct was Ramblings of an eccentric soul Random jottings, scribbles in my notebook, of what was goin on through my mind. Altho, I was not trying to write a poem, rhyming and rhythm kinda makes me think, i can convert into a song. But, I enjoyed scribbling =] much much more fun that class with weird encodings and flow control and what not?

Ramblings of an Eccentric soul
So tired of this strife
That we call life
An aged shadow
We call asoul alongside

Caught in a myriad of blazing past
And a flash takes you into a new vast
Run Amok, you don't give a fuck
Searching for a new place where you hafta park

A forward takes you a step back in time
Yet,a gamble, a flip of a dime
As you think of your time in this body, your life a solitary mime
And around you plays songs of a deadly rhyme

Your past period flashes in front of you
In itz blaze shows ur life in its prime
And as u spentabsorbing any aberration
Not givin thot, w/o any cognition

A notion is dancing all around me
As if trying to prewarn me
Of another lot that its found
Revving along the vast with a noiseless sound

And then I see it
As I encounter a fit
The space waiting for me
To dock and unlock, my body the key

Well.. thatz all folks :p! Please feel free to comment on this. Of course! Adios for now. Now gotta get started on readin some crappy communication and DBMS, as I am assuming a guru position again. Sonz, Lax, Sid, Sijo and Remin mite be here to be my disciples :p! naah itz b4 the series thatz why :]

Series

Good almighty god! Imagine a situation where in you are faced with series, a namethat doesn\'t give the stomach a rest even in Mathematics, zero concentration on studies and no one at home to press on that incessant check on me button. Well thatz about my plight rite now.

But, does that deter me? No, I try to make the most out of everything. BLOW UP THE WORK TO FIT IN THE ALLOTED TIME. I am as happy as happy can be hehe!

Another one bites the dust, anotheropportunity lost with the DNA ROCK IDOL HUNT at Cochin and Transmigration not able to attend it... and a cheeky Rubberband getting it through :'[. Honestly, I do agree that they are good at practice, regular, and much more focussed than us, but my sour grapes attitude makes me type this down. we have won any competition that we have played with them. Now, it makes me wonder, what the f*** are we doin? Have we lost the charm, the glut, the fire in the belly? Well, hope that something comes out of the two songs that we have been trying to pen down and get the music in? TRANSMIGRATION and THE SEVENTH BULLET. I am kinda liking the previous rambling and would modify it to make it TRANSMIGRATION.

Well, other than that, what else? I am scared stiff o my phone bills now. what with the calls to Mad [god bless her soul] hehe. Well shez off people, off to Delhi to do her AdCom specialization within an MBA degree. Woohoo, I am so happy for her. seriously, but I wonder, what the hell would i do w/o her at near reach, altho shez got a mob and rite now has messagin free ;o]. Hmmm, Delhi is quite the place for da lovely mad!

Well, I better dwell on some serial and parallel communication interfaces and protocols and some Flow COntrol and error control for tomorrow\'s xam. Adios amigos. Shall be back soon with the scribbles of THE SEVENTH BULLET :-]. Pangs is off. Btw. the >:guru:< has hosted his mobile wap site. Please feel free to check it out all ya wap ppl out there

But, what to do, what with the companies coming and going and me in the CGPU, plus work on my seminar [of which I have not even decided the topic ;]], life has been quite busy in Pangu land. Anyways, what have I been doing so busy, well, basically met TONS of people, old acquaintances and new ones [well yeah guess I met a really really cool person]. Reading a book right now, I should say reading rather than devouring [Which i normally do], and the surprising part is, itz a PG Wodehouse that I am reading and not gobbling. Yup, well guess what, U thought PG Wodehouse was only known forhis wonderful funny plots and situational comedy, try reading "LIFE AT BLANDINGS"!!! Itz amazing, there are actually passages that a romantic novel could actually bend its knees to!! =O. I know, ITZ AMAZING k!!!!

Hey, I gotta go now! So, I shall be back sooner with a new blog =]

Btw start using the Skype program, itz wonderful!! Itz the most amazing piece of s.w for net chatting with voice. and the best part is u can add it as a HTML link and have a callto to your skype. For eg SKYPE ME!

Independence

Independence is a concept that we have been introduced to right from our childhood. You should be independent beta, coz that feeling is amazing. In this rambling, i am basically talking about HOW WE CANNOT BE INDEPENDENT [IN TOTO] and highlight what is the independence that we have been hearing about is all about

There are many ways in which we depend on other people. We depend emotionally on some people - e.g. our family, our special someone of the opposite sex. we depend on people for our basic needs - e.g. ma's cooking, PTS [Public Transportation System], Oil companies to fill our gas ;o]. So you see, independence is a not a pretty straightlaced concept . You can never, reach a point of complete absolute freedom, coz the amount of indirect dependence that you have is preponderous and mindboggling. I mean, I traced out a tree in which I am talking about my basic necessities - food, clothing and shelter. The first indirect dependence itself leads on to something like 50 values in the first level of the tree. =O.

So, ok, we cannot be totally independent, but yes we can try and be as independent as possible, because in the end, the feeling of obligation [the less cynical mite misconstrue me here] is not all that great. I don't want to be bound by any shackles [again, another point where I mite be strongly rebuked] of obligation. Lemme try and define this obligation that I am talking about, although I dunno if I wil be able to succeed. The things that I am going to talk about here mite be a shock for people who know me pretty well, but then, it just struck me today, when I took my baby steps into the concept of as independent as possible that I am amazed by the feeling of goodness it creates in you =].

Well, essentially what made me come to this point was the dismissal of the maid\'s services in the house. Two weeks ago, the maid left. Since then, I have had to basically do all the services that I had been offered by the maid. Put in a nutshell, I took over her job. Lemme also attach at this point that, I am the LAZIEST, most disorganized person I HAVE MET [as far as maintaining the house and cleaning and arranging things are concerned], What might be visually repelling as far as order is concerned in a house, mite not even cause a flitch of my eye. Couple it with the hectic two weeks coz of well noone in the house [amma is in chennai] and the preparation for my seminar [of which I shall talk about in my next blog] - you get something that could flitch my eye ;o]. Haha YUP, today morning I got up, came to know that it was Vinayaka Chaturthi [B'day of cutey Ganesha] and playing in the spirit decided to start afresh anew - arenewed resolute Renganathan Ramamoorthy, you could say who DECIDED TO CLEAN THEHOUSE [=o]. An Annual process for him, where in he dumps previous year\'s books somewhere and gets ready to mess up the next year's books, he decided to actually CLEAN HIS HOUSE. It registered WARNING BELLS IN MY HEAD TOO ;o]. Rest assured, I am not going bonkers ;o]

So, with a determined mind, I picked up the broom from its place and started... Yup, dusted and swept the whole top floor of my house, swabbed it and then cleaned my computer table. at the end of it, I was TIRED, but I was contented. It was a very very nice feeling of having done something... Possibly, I experienced what is rightly said - the simple pleasures of life. I was really happy. had this gleam in my eye - although I had to take a bath again coz of the accumulated dust on my body.

Then, right after, I washed my clothes and then cleaned the dishes too [all piled up for a WEEK] ;o]. Yup, the change was radical. The shock a bit too much for mysweet grandma who came upstairs planning to clean up the place herself - today being Vinayaka Chaturthi.

So, here I am talking about independence. Why? COz, I think if I really wanna, I can be independent, i mean I WAS INDEPENDENT, b4 I retired into the rut of dependence. Since my 3rd standard, I could remember me ironing my own clothes, polishing my own shoes and Roh\'s. Cleaming my canvas shoes, whitening them. Then, later, i enjoyed being served. [I do even now]. ;o] The thing is that, this was a test for myself if I can get into the side groove of independence and to a certain level, I think I CAN.

Signing off now.... Planning to read up on Some VISUAL C++ tutorials coz of the project. we hafta start working on a plan asap. VC's orders. So till next rambling....

Site down

Hey guys! Sorry about not posting in much 'ere. Well, the truth is..... There were lots to post, but always put it off thinking that I will post in the new layout. However, with the unpredictability of KU and coupled with my own lazy bum/fingers (not to mention the never toiled itself mind), never got to actually making another layout!

Well, to brief things up, exams started after an anticli! Everyone hoping that the KU would postpone today's exam, but sadly, monkeys at KU actually did call our bluff and we paid the price (not really). The CPI exam was the start for the S7 exams. Two days of non stop data feed into my brain, and I don't blame it for being tired and sleepy as I type in!!! It literally did take in a pounding!!!

As of now, well the exams are on. Got AI (Artificial Intelligence) on 29th, OOS (Object Oriented Systems) on the 1st (Anoop's b'day btw), then some more exams, stopping coz I am getting bored of mentioning them.

Well basically came to mention that the next BLOG WILL be on the new layout .. come what may :D hehe.. So signing off for now. Adios amigos and amigas....

Yup! I did it! The new layout is done, and work on the CMS is on the way. As of now, this is the new interface to my site =). Well, don't ya worry, I am working on converting the previous data (my blogs and musings and documents and the rest) to come into this site. Also, have to work on the CMS :). I now have finally implemented MySQL into the site, and wow, itz just WOW! =) the work is so much simpler with a database

Well, what else? Things might be slow for the next two days, as I will also have to manage studying DBMS (Database Management System) coz I got my exam on 16th. That would be the end of the exams, and I should then devote my full time to the CMS for my site.

Things to look out for
1.) Comments facility for each blog
2.) Links management
3.) Hopefully choosing your stylesheet, I am coming up with a logic for that =D
4.) Loads more.. ;-)

Rite now, am pretty excited that i got the work done this much, coding from scratch in notepad in less that 4 hours

Well, yeah I know, I am too good hehe.... =p! So, catchya guys later.... Thisz FUN!

Well.... some problems..

Well, there are some problems that i am facing with this layour, first being that it caused a problem for the 800*600 guys. =D.

They had a div align problem. well, I finally sorted it out, and then now, itz too thin for the 1024*768 guys. Now, is there someway, by which I can change the settings, based on the resolution of the incoming person.... I need time to figure it out. Planning to somehow come outta this problem... Hmmm =?!!!

Dimebag Darrell shot and killed!

The ex Pantera guitarist and heavy metal God, Dimebag Darrell was shot y'day while performing with his new band called Damageplan,. A real loss for the heavy metal world. I too mourn his death.

Those sexy leads and riffs of the hardcore Pantera would forever be indebted to his talent, and skill and creativity with the electric guitar in overdrive. May his soul RIP!

Problem solved...

Well, the div alignment problem is solved. And, i can't get the XHTML certification anyway, coz the Lycos ad bar is full of crappy mistakes. So, that solves one major issue. Now, to tackle the comments! Hmm, got a database working and now need to align comments with blogs. Thinking of using some DBMS that i studied this sem (or did not study =D). Well, anyway... off for the day. Planning to get some rest and then maybe do a bit of studying... Till then, adios. Thanks for visiting.. whoever has visited so far...

The conversion of the other data is still going on.... I will upload my previous ramblings and rantings. =). Btw, finished a book called "The Last Juror" by John Grisham. Well, it wasn't much of a read, and I knew the story of what was gonna happen half way through. Kinda waiting for an e- version of "The Butterfly Effect" and "Da Vinci Code" to spend some quality time with books. =D. Well, so long now...

Posted on: 12-12-2004 @ 11:26:24 Comments:0

Yup... Comments on...

Yay!!!! The comments facility is ready and running. =) Took about two hours to figure out the logic and code, but then, the effect is good. I liked it a lot. ;-) Any comments???? =p

Now, planning on a links management app. And a calendar app so that you can directly view dates. This is finally coming up and, itz much more manageable than my previous file based CMS. I am enjoying this, more than I want to =D

GMail Notifier

So, I was waiting and waiting for this to happen... and yes, it does happen! I was wondering, why Google had not yet come up with a local running app notification of their web-based Gmail service. Well, they finally released the Beta version of GMail Notifier. Itz a nifty utility esp for the GMail dependent and GMail checking people like me. Now, instead of me actually logging into the account everytime to check my mail, I get notification right at desktop through a system tray icon.

It will let you know about any new mail that might have reached your GMail account. Only one prob tho, you can check only one such account from your desktop =(. Well, I am yet to check its multiple user running capability... Will update this blog once I try that up! But, until then, i would make it a rather good download choice. =) ...

Now, all google misses is a FAST Instant Messenger as well. =-".. any takers people??? ;-)

Sad, coz I lost my place =(

Now, thanks to Vishnu >=), who pointed out that my site does not come as #1 search result for "gurupanguji" search in google anymore =((. Itz sad, coz, all the hits that i had generated so far.. GONE GONE GONE... =D Not to worry, I am gonna get that hits back, and as we rightly say - Wait, Watch and Learn (learnt that from organizing the Industrial Tour).

Hehe, well, DBMS is indeed taking its toll, coz i am staying up late reading some crap about indices and file organization (well actually interesting, but not under exam circumstances). What else? I am planning to get some cool stuff back from the old site, which I do miss for its contents, now that I can present 'em much better =D. Shall add it as an archive so that I can still visit it and marvel at what the hell i wrote off the cuff. =D.

Well, Challenge at USSWI a technical competition for college students is on the 17th and I have qualified for the
-Paper Presentation competition (presenting on NVIDIA SLI technoloy)
-Inter college tech quiz

Teams are me and sid for the paper and me and gautam for the quiz! Hope to make this a grand success, well for the money!!! An amazing Rs. 6000/- for the first prize and Rs 4000/- for the second =D. Yeaaaaahhhh hehe!!!

Started out just to get someone of our back, never knew we'd qualify for the only two competitions there was eh ;-) I like it...Well thatz all for now. Got some more ideas to implement in the site and should be on that as soon as possible after the exam. So, until next time adios admigos(gas) ;-)

Just checked that my image on About me is pretty twisted and out of res.
-Reminder: put a new image (something dashing and cool)

Guide to speaker placement

Well, for a while I had struggled with a 4.1 card in my system, and not investing in a 4.1 speaker either. I have a Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value card. It supports 64 hardware sounds, and has a wonderful facility even supporting digital out. The sound is just peachy. I love it. =)

However, my speakers are a different story. I have invested in a Mercury SW 980 2.1 system. It has a wonderful sound quality, but still sometimes you fell that a Creative Inspire would have fared better ;-). Anyway, these become my front speakers, the rear speakers (around 5 o them) are provided by my home theatre system (Aiwa).

So, since mom is off to Chennai, I was thinking of probably placing them in a proper surround setting so that I can get more realistic surround effect from my system and thought I'd do a simple googling on the right placement strategy. The results were mind-boggling. I am providing 3 links that go to the extent of providing the mathematics of proper placement =).
[] GRC Audio
[] Immedia Sound guide
[] Cox.net

Check them out. You will be baffled at the mere numbers that they are crunching and coming up with a placement strategy. But, they say that the best way is try out all the possible strategies and then use the best solution possible.

Gonna get my hands dirty and try out the various placement strategies mentioned here. Have to dig up that house plan, that I saw somewhere and start.

Also have to try out the cable folding linked to by Vivek in the Sig9 blog of his. The comp is getting heated, up coz of the heat thatz there in the comp room now.

4 hours of sleep and 5000 bucks later!

2-3 days ago, I receive a mail from Sabu Sir, directed at the CGPU that mentioned about a competition by US Software - title Challenge @ US - which boasted of two competitions
[] A Paper competition
[] An IT quiz competition

Well, at that point, since the DBMS was rumored to be postponed (another wonderful rumor to crap our study plans), I thought up, why not take part in this? Make it my FIRST paper presentation =D, and the IT quiz is a bonus ;-).

So, I registered myself, Sid and Gautam for the competition. The teams being, Sid and me - for the paper presentation - and Gautam and me - for the IT quiz competition! The IT quiz had an online prelims, which me and Gautam took. Sid and me had not yet decided on any topic to be presented for the presentation, especially with the suggested topics being a drag (some Bio metrics and stuff like that)! We were in half a mind to withdraw from the competition, and especially since the hope of postponement of the DBMS exam was at a wane!

On that day, in which I had to teach the monkeys: Sijo, Renjith, Sid and Remin, we decided to send an abstract anyway! Since, we are not gonna be selected, why bother ;-)!

So, the search for a topic started! We went through Intrustion Detection (=O!), Bio Metrics (=&!!) and a host of others, before my brain hit a high, and nVidia's SLI technology cropped up into my head. Suddenly, the paper took on a new meaning for me, for I could talk on this, a subject which I really loved to rave on, and something that would put us in a better position, being armed with a host of Half Life 2 videos and tons of garbage data, which might hold only true meaning (if it does really have any) for the game oriented fps monger!

We prepared an abstract, which was wellllll - ABSTRACT! We essentially copied some stuff that sounded good from a review site, and enumerated what we would be talking about!

That evening, i got a call from Preetha (whoz a chweety btw) from US Software regarding our confirmation for the quiz, as me and Gautam qualified! (yay!!!)

That night when the guys had taken a break (gone for dinner at Ayyappan Kada), when I got another mail from Hari (at USSWI) regarding that we had qualified for the paper presentation as well. Exciting?? Well, I think so, although at that moment, we just concentrated on the goddamned DBMS exam, which did not go that well anyway! #-o!!!

Well, y'day the DBMS exam done, followed by a farewell to s7 lunch at Ariya Nivas, and a lethargic afternoon, filled with a nap, me and Sid woke up at 7pm. Well, Sid was dazed: he was like wtf??? What the hell are we going to do now? I was like chill.... Started the procedure for making the presentation, which I really pride making ;-)!!!

The process continued, and by 2:30 pm, we were finally done with the presentation filled with HL2 videos and some cool snaps and some sexy logos =)!! Well, at the end of it all, I was like: this is too much I need some sleep and we will get up by 6 and do the rest of the stuff. Meanwhile, our head was already clogged with AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) and SFR and other crap k!

Well, i am getting tired of this typing crap, maybe sometime later I will add the rest of the details ;-)!

The thing I needed to mention was We WON!!!!!! First PRIZE for the paper presentation
and Second prize for the quiz!!!!

A net gain of 10,000 bucks by the 3 of us ;-)! Cool huh!!!

I got 5,000 bucks and hence am that much richer. I have to add some stuff that happened since we woke up and all and maybe shall add in the next blog or something. Right now I have to go and do something else coz I am getting bored of typing it all in =)!

Home Alone

'Sup san niggahs, and other people ;-) (Yeah I am on a dream hoping people other than Indians are visiting my site) Heehee! =)... Well, mom is off to Chennai tomorrow at 4:45 am on the Raptisagar Express. This essentially translates to me alone upstairs. Yup, I am planning on a massive rearrangement of the room, including the computer, and the sound system and the whole works. Planning to give it a LOUNGE look

Comfy bean bags (or the nearest replacement), Good lighting, a good air circulation arrangement of these as well. Have to arrange a bed too amongst these =D.

I had been to Thrissur on the 23rd of this month (december) to pick up Ro! The journey had its highpoint in my 3 purchases, all three of 'em low standard Indian prints of

1. Jack - the story of Jack Welch, ex CEO of GE
2. Da Vinci code - Good read, pathetic finale
3. Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus - the supposedly single book that's supposed to come closest to the secret of men understanding women and women understanding women

Finished Da Vinci Code, planning to write up a review on it, and well in sweet simple words, the book is a GOOD READ. The code is pretty simple to crack, I was able to do that =D. The historical and theological support of the story is WONDERFUL! The book is extremely intriguing, unfortunately the finale sucked big time =D

Shall get back soon, most probs tomorrow, now gotta help mom in the final packing to be finito!

Band Practice starts again...

Yup, we have finally got back together and started practicing for competitions again. This time, the playlist just gets better, and heavier and tougher, on all of us I guess. We have practiced and almost perfected
[1] Master of Puppets - Metallica
[2] Enter Sandman - Metallica
[3] Seek and Destroy - Metallica
[4] The Trooper - Iron Maiden
apart from the earlier songs comprising of
[5] For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica
[6] Sad but True - Metallica
[7] Wherever I may Roam - Metallica
[8] Paranoid - Black Sabbath
[9] Patience - Guns n Roses
[10] I Hate you - Slayer

Our next competition songs are dedicated to Dime Bag Darrell, the slayer guitarist who was shot.

Well, finally we got the "fire in the belly" attitude grabbing, studying and perfecting covers, and working on our title at the same time. This time we are joined by a rhythm guitarist, something we have been missing since Louis left. Pramod, is our newest member, a die hard metal dude, and a wonderful rhythm guitarist who we truly respect.

Now, Govindan is back to the leads, where he truly belongs =)! What else? Shall try and post some good res snaps of the band in action once the competitions start, and maybe post some home vdo snaps ;-)!! =p!

S8 has started with a bang, altho itz really quite boring. Half the subjects aren't assigned a prof (lecturer) yet, and the lab is kinda boring, at least the Linux part of it is.... =p! Apart from that life is k..

Project work starts tomorrow, the "Intelligent Browser", I will finally find out what itz all about. I have an opportunity with TCS to do my project with them, and they pay me a stipend of Rs 7000/- per month during the project period. There are two moral aspects of it which prevent me from taking it up
[1] I have already committed to Vinod Chandra Sir, and Sid and Lax that I would do this "Intelligent Browser"
[2] Will I be forced to join TCS at the end of the project?
what really kills me is that this project is in Web app - design and development, something that really interests me =(!

Anyway, shall see if I can do both.. Have to talk to VC about that.

A Long time

"A Long Time"... kinda sums up stuff happening in my life right now. A long time since I blogged, a long time since i did a lot more things. But, lifez cool, and getting back to the rote process of routines. [Who ever said that a routine is 'boring'?]

If I enumerate the stuff happening in my life -
[1]. Dishaa '05 happened. It was a humongous success. We have finally accomplished what we set about in the first place.
I would like to thank TATA Consultacy Services Ltd for their tremendous support - financially as well as morally for making Dishaa '05 happen. I still do not understand why they gave us Rs. 1.25 lakhs, but I would like to think that well, LUCK and EFFORT was from our side :)!
[2]. We had a wonderful show in Dishaa '05 - 14,000 watts of heavy metal played out to the crowd, and they enjoying every bit of it. I could not beleive that Trivandrum actually had so many metal fans. :o!! And, what was so special about the whole show was that at the end of the show, the band was smiling - ya know that contented smile after something good has happened to you. This was very refreshing, awesome especially after a not so great show at IIT Chennai [although it was an awesome time for the whole band]. You should have seen Govndan, and Abin and Pramod, actually smiling after the show. I would give anything in this world, to see that smile again.
Not only that, the best part was that, it was done with ZERO practice. We just got on the stage, did a sound check and started playing. I am soooo waiting for the DVD to come from ACV.!!!

Dishaa '05 has come and gone, and so has Valentine's Day. As usual, still single and wondering about what the crap I am doing in this world? I am a ROCKSTAR, I am supposed to have my "girl fans" all around flocking me. :p!

Well, some more stuff, I just got some snaps taken of me.. I have lost 6 Kgs. running around for Dishaa '05. Can you beleive that? 6 KILOGRAMS. :o!!! I was like WHOA. Anyway, good, now I am in 62, but I am slowly edging back to gaining weight, coz we got a new cook, and meals are on time, and I am in no mood to skip them, coz I don't have NET connection, when I mite be boring someone to death, or killing my grey cells, with information that I gather.

Oh yeah!!! NO MORE NET people. :((!!!!!! I am grounded, and hence will not be available online, until I get the green signal from up above - Chennai that is [Mom and Dad are there].

What else? Dad is coming tomorrow morning [Wed] and Mom is coming day after evening [Thu]. Looking forward to them coming.... Itz gonna be a cool time. Want them to come and khilao pilao me ;-)!. Miss them kinda, but not too much, coz when they see what i have done to upstairs, they are gonna wring my neck [with LOVE and AFFECTION ofcourse].

Oh yeah, finally got in touch with mad, the monkey darling again. Still at a solid 56kgs, shez enjoying her ass off in Delhi, trying to save money apparently by not giving anyone calls. [I hear ur plight Usha Aunty]. Monkeybrain :)! Anyway, don't worry, I am out to pester ur brains out. I have taken some snaps of myself and guys and some of Aster's [Anoop's dog] and have put it up for grabs at the site. Just follow this link Snaps.

Trrrriiiinnnggg!

A phone call on the 2nd of February, changed my life in my house to a new level. The call was from Dad complaining about how I have been absolutely irresponsible, and not been communicating with dad and mom properly. Inarguably, these "accusations" led to the final conclusion of me being GROUNDED. [Whoa, thatz something new eh? :p]. Anyway, the net effect is that I have lost net connection, and my mobile privileges are hanging dangerously in the air.

The wonder of it all, somehow, is that I am striving at home. I am reading up the newspaper more, waking up quite early for my normal waking up times [Waking up by 0600, 0700 hours]. So, yeah this is weird. I am missing NET CONNECTION, there is no question on that, but yes, I am growing over it. :-D. The only bad thing is that I have some snaps that I wanted to upload into the net, but I have been unable to do that.

Well, phone usage has suddenly gone up, as rightly noted by Lax. I have been calling her up more often, and generally have been talking over the mobiles a lot more.

Finally, I got the money that Dishaa '05 owed me, at least, I have stated the facts to the Finance Committee, and I am hoping that come Monday, I am 2190+27 bucks richer. Yeah, I am at Gautam's place right now, coz all of us are chilling out here. Planning to go for National Treasure/Ocean's Twelve today. Itz gonna be FUN! Well, signing off rite now. Oh yeah almost forgot, started playing Hitman Contracts coz I am THAT bored at home.

Also, started installing Visual Studio 6.0 coz I am absolutely BORED.... ;-)! Gautam's complaining that I don't blog this often when I did have ADL. Must agree that hez right. Never utilized it so much when u got it at ur call and becking, 24/7....!!!

A Fedora Core 3 Later

I cannot beleive this. I am actually chugging a blog out of a LINUX machine. No, the world is NOT coming to an END. Shouldn't be anytime soon, especially now that I actually respect a Linux flavor. No, its still not got the XP charm [don't even dream about it], but it CERTAINLY deserves a LOTTA respect. Maybe it was the time of the night [some 4 am on the 24th of Feb, 2005] or maybe it was the sleep that time... it certainly WOWED me out.

The sluggish, drab boring interface of Mandrake and Red Hat flavors that earlier had adorned my desktop gave their way to the slick XP and its blazing speeds, and amazing user intuition. Now, that is facing a very stiff competition from this very unassuming entry from the "Fedora world". The Fedora Core 3 came across my way in the form of 5 CD images in a Digit DVD given to me by Shameer. At that time, I was cursing the damn thing coz it had to be actually written onto 5 CDs. Yeah I paid Rs 48.00 and bought 6 cds and wrote the whole thing. But, now that effort doesn't seem so bad.

The whole thing [or whatever I have installed of it] took about an hour of toiling and 3 CDs.. The end result - WOW! Although it will take some time to setup the look and make it behave the way you are used to - LIGHTNING QUICK, will take some time. Getting access to your NTFS volumes will take another chunk of time and searching through the various manuals and rpms. And one word of caution/advice. Go through the damned documentation. I tried searching and trying everything to cut to the chase and take the easy way out of getting access to NTFS volumes, but finally had to read that instructions webpage. The worst part, still not able to access it. Taking a break and hence decided to blog.

A Huge success for me was to set up the FC as a DHCP server that enables the other box in this room - another XP/FC3 box to utilize NET by making this a NAT [Network Address Translator] - the Linux counterpart of ICS [Internet Connection Sharing] - a wonderful ability of XP. I read through lot of bytes and finally was able to configure my FC3/XP machine to now act as a residential gateway and also got it to automatically assign IPs and DNS data to a computer that wants to network with this machine :)!

Well, I am getting back to getting my NTFS data in my FC3 environment. Shall do a proper write up about what are the steps that one needs to take inorder to actually set up a working FC3 machine - a source for all the other seekers like me there. This should hopefully make their journey a lot more shorter. On my way to do that, I am off for another search about the NTFS crap!

A Ride down memory lane

Today morning, I woke up to meet Lax at the Hanuman temple at Pangode, to get a text book on "Computer Architecture and Parallel Processing", from which we have to write an assignment. Anyway, got ready and adorned my new pair of Parx Jeans. Its awesome btw. So, I got ready after a tiring night, coz of incessant coughing [dunno what happened, but was coughing away to glory]. So, i got dressed up and took the scooter and drove to Pangode.

Little did I know that the "Hanuman temple" was actually the small temple that I used to visit daily when I was in the old KV. This was the first KV Pangode, where I took the test with a lotta people. It brought back a flush of memories. It was really nostalgia stuck inside. I remembered the ground where we used to rush out after each class to play cricket with the exam board and paper balls, the ground where Mad cried "puru, puru" for worms, the class, where I shifted my place coz Mad sat next to me [yeah in 4th, sitting with girls was shameful :p]. Me and Mahesh sitting and bickering about girls and Ruchi and Mad [hehe, fun times], Lunch exchange, when Mahesh used to bring Lovely food and I used to take the then drab Dosas/Idli/Some rice.. and i brought in the concept of Lunch exchange, where I get his lunch and he gets mine [Hehe]. Varun bringing in Natholi fish and me putting the name fa him. How Shailesh got the name Chaala [the fish]. Ajesh getting the name of Bakreesh [after we started learning Sanskrit]. Lovely times @ Maths classes with Latha Ma'am. Social Studies - scary hour with Padma ma'am. Speaking in Hindi all the time with Archana, Jeena, N...[forgot her name]. Then, winning the school election. Yippeee, was the most popular guy in that school ;-)!

Continuing, when a pillar fell on a guy, the day I got elected as Ashoka house leader. The small yet comfy prayers at the main gate entry. The times at the FLAK CANNON in front of the school, where in we used to spend the evening after school, waiting for the seniors to get over [it was till 2:30 pm for us and till 3:30pm for the seniors]. Ajesh, Shailesh, Varun, Mahesh, Sunil and the gang all poised as soldiers ready to fire away any aircraft that comes. Hehe. :)

Then, came the house parties and competitions. It was fun times. Then, we moved to the new school, under the aegis of the Princi then, Dr Rahulan [he was a charmer, I still remember, mom and mad's mom going gaga over that guy]. He was a Math PHd. from England. He was really a wonderful guy. I remember, the library reading days, where in there was a competition as to who reads the most [I used to win, no I am not braggin, coz I think mad used to tie with me]. It was FUN days. I think those are some of the most wonderful days in School. I remember Music hours, when I was made to sing to the class [i used to feel so bad those days, wasn't so proud of my voice, and esp the days when my voice had begun to crack].

What else? So many things, lending cycles from the guys, once they started bringing it to school. Then riding around the school... then the visits to the army children's house, for good food. Then ganging up and going to break Imli and Aams from the trees. So many more memories, I should probably log in the details as a separate page. Just for the heck of it. Chatting with Vedz online, so I think i betta go back and talk to her! =)!

Punched!

Nopes, i did not get punched, don't have a black eye and did not throw a punch at someone either. But, i got my left ear pierced. What you ask? Yup, i got my left ear pierced. Cool huh? Mom got a second set of piercings in her ears today. I was kinda enthralled by the whole idea. Moreover always wanted to pierce my ears. Well, anyway, I got it done @ Alukkas Jewellery. The people there were like WHOA when I was about to be GUNNED [They use a gun to punch the hole in ur ears].

Paid Rs. 100 and I was studded :) hehe.. Have to see the reaction of people tomorrow @ college. Shall blog in detail after that

Jobfair an unfair experience - by Govindan Potti

This is all about a good read. This is one of the most interesting reads I have had for ages. I love his travellogues as he calls it. And, hell yeah, i enjoy his guitaring... None other than Desp Satriani - the one and only Govindan Potti. Hez the lead guitarist of Transmigration, and one of the closest pals I have. =) There is this spark of a writing genius inside him. I am trying to get the first travellogue that he had written and will put it asap. Till then, enjoy this piece of writing

=============================================

Hi everybody...

This is my second travelogue (if u r kind enuf to call it so!!!). This time its not SSB but a jobfair. Anyway this time also it has an employment rapport.

A lot of jobless fellows in campus were excited to see the ad of Jobfair that will be conducted by CTS and 'The Hindu- Opportunities' on 26th and 27th in Coimbatore. It clearly specified 'final year' students can also apply. All of us started preparing for the tests too.We bought 'Cambridge' trousers and 'DH' shirts for the interviews.

All of us were shocked to see last thursday's (24-02-05) 'The Hindu' supplements.Thirty plus companies had given their ads in which they specified the requirements and qualifications they were looking forward to.It broke our hearts into several pieces. Most of the firms wanted only experienced candidates and those who wanted final years just needed a candidate from any discipline and even +2-undergraduates.

“Tell a man there’re 300 billion stars in the universe and he’ll believe it. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he’ll have to touch to be sure.”
GODSPEED.....
It is true.We were not driven back by those ads.We wanted to make it sure and boarded the train 'Sabari Xpress' on 25th morning(7 am).It was really an arid journey.'Puzzles to puzzle you' by Sakuntala Devi found itself resting in peace even before the train reached Mavelikkara. The heat evoked the journey via Andhra Pradesh while returning from Bhopal (ref:last travelogue).Sweat exuded out and succumbed to the heat.To cap it all, innumerable cockroaches infested through out the coach.(Next time on "Sabari" i'll surely take with me, one or two of big spiders from my bathroom which devour cockroaches,to maintain a balance in the train environment).I wonder why the TTRs are not eager to fine them all, albeit more than two have gone through our tickets.

Finally the train reached Coimbatore at 4.45Pm. The station is not as big as Chennai Central. Our friends in Coimbatore came, picked us and took us to their place.Time was 5.00 pm and it meant congested roads.

"Why they call it rush hour when nothing moves?"

We were taken to their house at a place called Lion's stop near Hopes junction, where we could see 'Medical College' and some other famous educational institutions ( unfortunately i didnt take down the names and i dont remember them now).It was a nice location distant from every city affairs.Lot of pea-cocks trudged around their house casting amorous glances on their female counter parts. Our friends informed us that, the place we were standing was once an untouched bush region and those peacocks were there from the get go and it seemed they are not ready to devolve their arena to anybody. The local people there do respect them and never harm those innocent and innocuous birds.

That night we went out and roamed the city.We went to 'Gandhipuram', a nice little town were we had our dinner. Then we went back home and after wasting some time watching television we went to bed.

D-Day has arrived (26-02-05).Everybody had bath and got dressed in formals. We went to Hopes and had our breakfast. All the busses en-route to Codissia were inundated with candidates. After waiting for sometime we found it was a Herculian task to get ourselves into any of those vehicles. So we hired a taxi-cab and headed to Codissia complex. Two kilometers from Hopes we found ourselves drifting between a multitude of cars and autos. The driver confessed his inablity to move the car any further. So we got out and started walking. We were shocked by the 1 to 1.5 km long queue that appeared to be longer than the queue in SabariMala.Without hesitation we joined that human chain. It started moving very slowly like a python with a heavy prey in its belly. After one hour in the queue we could see, at a distance, the great Codissia Complex. It seemed to be a huge monster opened its mouth to imbibe everybody who got there. There was an initial registration and then we got inside the complex.

The story changed inside the building.About twenty to thirty stalls were there but surrounded and blinde by thousands of unemployed youth.Literally, there was not enough space for sand, if dropped, to reach the floor.Should the heat be mentioned, With tucked in formals and shoes? Outside the hall,in the queue which led to the complex we were praising the organizers for managing this much candidates thronged the place.Once inside we found 'all that glitters are not gold'.We really thought we will soon reach Almighty's sanctum and we bagan envisaging our funerals.

Somehow we managed to deposit our resume on HSBC stall. Then a 'human tsunami' hit and washed away all of us into different corners. As we got drowned in that human sea submitting resume seemed a pipe dream. But fortuitously we could submit our resumes in most of the stalls.Albeit they didnt want any final years, they took our resumes as if to console and to express genuflection for our great adventure. We submitted our resumes on Nipuna( A Satyam co),Wipro BPO,Office Tiger,Getit,CTS... other than our debut stall HSBC.

At around 2.30 pm we extricated ourselves from that pandemonium. As we had with us mobile phones we could meet at in front of the complex, though with much difficulty. Then we waved bye to Codissia, went to Hopes, had our lunch and returned to our sojourn.

We started our return journey at 5.30 pm.First of all we went to Ukkadam where we could find lot of second sale books for promising prices. Some of us spend lot of money there and boarded a bus to Palakkad at 7.30.At around 9.00 pm we reached Palakkad and felt releaved to land great God's own country. At 10.30 our return journey started in Amrita express.

I started reading one of those books from Ukkadam - the controversial 'The DA VINCI CODE'.I dont remember how many pages i could go through. When i got up it was 5.00 am in the morning and we had reached 'Quilon'.The book was still open and i could see the heading 'chapter two' staring at me.

For any Jobfair- "think twice before you leap"

Linux... still....

Looks are something that captivate you.... But, what guarantee do you have that the looks are all that is needed? I loved the look of Fedora Core 3 adorning my system. It is still adorning it. I have even modified my CSS file for this page so that it takes advanatage of some of the core Linux fonts and my page looks great if a Linux machine chugs it out as well. Yet, there is something about Linux that still DEMANDS a change. Something that CALLS OUT LOUD, and where XP kinda takes ALL THE GLORY away from FC3 - Installing, updating and managing the applications that you use. I would go to say that installing, updating and managing some of the applications in FC3 is a biiiaaatttccchhhh!

Now that I have let that emotion out, lemme get back to try and install MPlayer Media Player in FC3. I have already managed to install WINE and am now able to run some of my favorite apps in XP in FC3. Long live WINE, else I would be kinda breaking up my darling PC =D!!!

Another note - sorta log thingy. March 1st marked the beginning of the 12th CBSE Boards. All the best to the people out there. March 3rd marks the beginning of the 10th CBSE Boards. All the best to all the people in 10th. :)! March 9th marks the beginning of the 12th State (Kerala) boards. All the best to the students for that as well.

Updates!

FC3 is slowly edging its way to become my default option in GRUB loader. Today, I managed to wreak some havoc in my system by actually installing and updating some of the apps that i generally run in an XP system =)! I have to thank Stanton-Finley for making a single stop shot for installing and configuring FC3 for ur daily user. It was AWESOME, and am really appreciating his effort to bring FC3 closer to newbies to *nix like me =)! I have enumerated the highlights of the day!
[1]. nVidia driver for FC3 - a perky little process that I enjoyed much more than the first time i tried it without any documentation. Some of the errors mentioned here, [that should cause no concern] were enough to turn my tummy around the first time. =D
[2]. Apache, PHP, MySQL
[3]. J2SE for running Azureus - the Java based client for handling torrents
[4]. Flash plugin for running Flash for FC3 and Firefox
and so on and so forth....

Things are indeed sprucing up in Linux. Now, waiting to try out some Windows based games after installing the Mozilla ActiveX Control in WINE. So are things sprucing up in the project line...

Project finally looks up at a ray of light coming from some data on the "WebBrowser" control [an ActiveX Control] that can be embedded onto a C++ program. We are having fun now just creating a simple app with an address bar and the Control and checking out the various function interfaces that are provided by the classes of WebBrowser. More info on this can be found here

Series exams are up next week. The first series of the final semester. Hehe! Things in Engineering and winding up to an end. Can't beleive that [uhum] 4 years are up! I remember vaguely the time table for Monday [hope this is it... have to confirm it with someone - Note to self].
March 7th - CN [FN] ----- CAPP [AN]
March 9th - E-com/NC [not sure which one =D]
March 10th - PPL [FN] ----- NC/E-com [AN]
March 11th - SE [FN]

Oh yeah!!! S7 results are out! Congrats is due for Venu for grabbing 77% marks in S7! This is JUST AWESOME! Amazing work Venu - KUDOS.

I am eagerly [not] awaiting the results ;-)! I will most probs know it in a day or two. Momz leaving for Chennai tomorrow

Pardon me if I have not checked this for proper taggin, but kinda feeling really sleepy. Will try and edit this later. :)!

Changed the color Layout

With nothing left to do in the break that I took during the course of going through "Computer Architecture and Parallel Processing" [CAPP - for the series], I decided to change the colors of the Ramblings.... Since, a lotta people wanted to go for a blue layout, I kinda took the course that side. I was toying around with FC3, and decided to use some of the colors I found there. I made a program to tell me the pixel shade of what my mouse is pointing to, and then used it to get the shades around from FC3! So, here it is... the Fedora theme for Ramblings of an Eccentric Soul

I also added a code snippet to help me edit my blogs later and manage them online. There were a couple of points that I noticed here -
[1]. I NEED to get more organized about my coding practices - I kinda went NUTS trying to go through what i had coded, i spent some time and actually commented necessary parts of the code, so that next time, I don't spend 90% of the time bugged to death as to what the hell I coded =D!
[2]. Sans font of FC3 is absolutely rad. I made my browser spit out ONLY Sans no matter what the page is. Also added support for Sans to my page for Linux users.[Windows users still have the Verdana standard].

I still dunno what to substitute the Red in the Title bar. I am open to suggestions =) Just comment on this blog with any suggestions that you have....

Today, Mom left for Chennai. I am now back alone upstairs, although Sid is now here. He will be spending more time @ my place coz of the project =)! Went to Lax's place after sending Mom off at the Rly Station. Sonz was also there. Had fun [also had biscuits, lime juice, jack fruit chips, Puri, tea]. Got the photostats [the sanctum sanctorum b4 any series], and now should start studying for the DAMNED series. Wish me luck.

Sem 7 results are out and I have passed in all subjects. The result generally is kinda k, especially for the Production people. I am eagerly [dunno for sure] awaiting my percentage. S7 was not that great, especially the preparation for the examinations. But, I badly wanna maintain my percentage. Hoping that I maintain my percentage. I am getting a deja-vu [must be coz I am feeling sleepy =D!!]. Time is about 1:40am here, and I guess I betta get back to some reading and take a nap. Tomorrow is gonna be a looong day!!!

I hope I can sleep today. Y'day was a terrible ordeal with the mosquitoes buzzing in my ear, and sucking my blood. [could sleep only by 4]. The heat is unbearable these days! Also, feel kinda hungry...I hope today is a good day [praying for 85% or more for S7 - dunno how realistic that is, but nothing wrong is hoping now is there??]

Added this set of snaps on a monkey! Really cute =) Herez a sample

Added a stylesheet switcher

Have always wanted to do that... =D! And I did it. I have added a stylesheet swticher to the site. Now, I can maintain that greyed look "Sober" as I call it and other people can still maintain this blue. I kinda really like both now. And keep switching back and forth. =)!! Check it out rite here

Personalize your look of "Ramblings of and Eccentric Soul"
Use Blued | Use Sobered | Use Plain

I kinda think its really cool, now working on it from my side. Right now, I am using a third party Java script to do that. Now learning how to do that by hand using PHP! =D!

The "NERD" Test

Was browsing through some sites after an ego search, and came across this Nerd Test in some site of some Linux hacker =D. Anyway, took it.. Hehe, and here are the results..

I am nerdier than 87% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

A weird test... ;-)! Half the stuff don't make sense as to why they would ask you - too straightforward to answer and find out if you are knowleadgeable or not!! I mean comon "Questions like which of the following are elements of the Periodic Table and crap?"

Anyway, Monday is the penultimate series exam of my B.Tech life and I am not doing anything for it. Guess, am a very "experienced" series exam writer now! Have a history of writing something like 12 series exams so far just in my B.Tech life =)!.

On a similar Note, here is something that Remin tried for quite some time and finally acheived to get a Nerd score of 1 =)! I think sometimes that he mite be the biggest nerd out here.. ;-)! Btw he has a 97 percentile on his MAT score =)

I am nerdier than 1% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

He initially got something like 32 or something, and after playing around with the answers for about half an hour, managed this... He went through 22, 7, 6 and finally reached the score of 1 =)!!!

SIDZOFRENIA - the variant shades of Sid is here... Sidz finally chugging out some code. I really liked the name Sidzofrenia =)! A link that needs to be watched out for in the near future. =) Beware GOOGLE SEARCH #1 for Siddharth Nair [someone from SIBM, Pune]. Check Sidzofrenia out!!!

Appreciation and Opinions

Why? What is the need? Why do you expect some form of appreciation for whatever you do? Is it an unsatisfied requirement of one? Whether it be a pat in the back once in a while or a casual reference to something that you did, you feel amazing, when someone appreciates your work! Maybe, it has to with some deep psychological imbalance in my life, or maybe its just that the stuff I do is worth appreciating, I have the need to be appreciated. It not only pleases me for the moment, but makes me work harder at whatever I was doing. =)!

On a note along these lines, I kinda sometimes ask my pals around as to what they think of something that I did, and it really pisses me off when they give a cursory glance to it and pass a chide comment on it. Why the hell do i ask them a question in the place? This is NOT for the appreciation factor. I get that enough from people [not even close to me]. I ask the question coz I care for their opinion out of the zillions of people out there. Why do I ask them specifically for an opinion? Maybe, I take it a bit too personally, but then it derides your respect for one, when they don't respect your question...I sometimes wonder if it is just me who feels this irritation, but then I feel it a lot, and kinda take it personally, coz it gives me the feeling that they DO NOT respect my effort, my work, my pain [sometimes], when all i ask for is their opinion to what they think of it! Maybe, it is a release to my pent up frustration over the past days, along with the subconsious tension leading to the series [due to begin tomorrow], and maybe, I am wrong, who knows? But, then the least YOU out there can do is encourage work honestly done [not to boast | demand respect ]. It may not be expected of you as a person, but as a pal, as a close friend, I expect it out of you.

There, after saying that I am getting back to cracking my head into reading "Computer Networks" by Tenenbaum, Andrew S.

Came across an interesting read today in the form of a link to a guy doing his PhD at University of Maryland. Herez the link List of Books. It kinda enumerates all the books used by this IIT-M undergrad pass out, whoz rite now blissfully enjoying "life @ US"!

Mera Number bhi Aaayegaa!!! =)!

The Series Begin...

An interesting [uhum yeah right....] day comes to an end. College was FUN [whoa] with the series beginning [Is he totally a goner after that ear-ring??]. But, the truth is, I kinda enjoyed writing the series today! Hehe, maybe itz the penultimate series doing the talking... =)!

Today was Computer Networks in the forenoon session and Computer Architecture and Parallel Processing [CAPP] for the afternoon session. CN went off quite k, despite me not studying anything too well. It was not that BORING... =D, and for the first time in the 13 series history, I started to write GAS [oh yeah, these blogs are hardly sufficing to release my pent up creativity ;-)!]. GAS, not just ANY gas, SOLID GAS [what an oxymoron]. Hehe. CAPP was a disaster! I hardly knew anything to write. I don't think I will get good marks for that, coz teacher had actually given the questions that were gonna come for the series!

Unfortunately, no one encouraged my idea to scoot ze exams. I was sooo in a mood not to write. I did enjoy these exams, much more than I had enjoyed writing some of the S7 papers! This time around, the only hard part was to actually perform the physical process of writing. I am getting so used to typing my way out, I am finding it extremely difficult to actually write something.

NOTE: Will make sure that my college will allow the students to have the option to TYPE their internal exams =)!
Or completely do away with the concept of INTERNAL EXAMS - Buh bye Series /:)

Whatz my age again?

Nopes not singing the Blink 182 song, which is not that bad! But, was going through the cyberspace... and encountered this test that tells you "What Age you Behave". Well, i got "17"! hehe... Lax would be snickering away to glory now. =)!

Herez the link to the page... in case you are interested as well =)!

Herez the result sheet =)! Btw, just heard that Lax is 11 years old.... HAHAHAHA This is FUN!!

You Are 17 Years Old
17
Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.
13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.
20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.
30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!
40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.
What Age Do You Act?

A boring day... or was it?

Well today's day was well... BORING [don't tell me u were expecting something else, especially after reading the title]. Nothing much happened. It was filled with power cuts and Anoop almost screwing up Fedora in the other machine, in the morning till about evening. The only productive I did during that period was getting the UPS for the other machine. Now, it wouldn't suffer the pain of not having power during a power cut [Good God, did i write that? I think thatz cozof reading too much of PPL Photostats].

Oh yes, PPL Photostats. Wonderful they are - the perfect example for obvious definitions and conclusions. An excerpt.. and i QUOTE -

What is dynamic type checking?
Well, its checking the type dynamically!!

Itz as obvious as they get. I think I will write a wonderful exam tomorrow for this. I am filled with DATA!!! Towards the evening, things got better with the gaming sessions for the day. Counter Strike and FIFA reigned supreme. Got screwed in FIFA by Sid. Redeemed myself in CS, even managed to kick Remin's butt!

Coming to think of it, the title doesn't really fit for the evening. It was kinda good =)! Oh yeah, I know why I feel kinda low. Itz coz I gotta call Balaji from TCS tomorrow. I mite get fired upon for not talking to TCS after Dishaa '05. But, I have a jolly good reason for that. They did NOT send a single person to see Dishaa - and the grand success that it was. I agree to the fact that they provided us with helluva lot of money [Rs. 1.25 lakhs] is NOT sixpence. But, I did expect something better. =(. Anyway, have to talk to Balaji tomorrow. Other than that, nothing much!

Almost forgot... today [March 9th] is darling Vedz' b'day! She turns 16 today. Interestingly enough, she also has her board exam [Mathematics] today!! It is kinda weird =)! But I am sure will be a memorable experience for her. She could always say, "Hey, guess what? I had my board Math paper on the SAME day as my 16th bday!!" Weird, but nonetheless something memorable.

Well, gotta play some FIFA [somehow get a port for Fedora Core 3 of FIFA '05]. WINE somehow craps up here. Have to check out more on that. In the Fedora front, I was working on setting up my Radio Station [yeah the "Radio Guru"] - ya know totally RJin away to glory. [Imagine the next big Internet RJ] ;-)! But unfortunately, I couldn't get the damn sources to compile and make properly.[ yeah whatz new]!! Why does Fedora Core 3 make life so much horrible. A simple double click would have done fine. =)!. The ONE and ONLY thing not so great in Fedora Core 3. Else, I love it!! [XP still RULZ tho, is this the beginning of a polyamorous experience for me??]

Collateral

Rating

What it's got: An obsessively dreamy cab driver, a Hitman, Cool LA top views, Some dark hours, a night inside a cab, 5 hits, a shoot out, kick ass mobile phones that kinda seem to run outta battery extremely fast, a BORING cab, one absolutely weird guest star, and a part, where in you can sleep peacefully!

The Summary: Interesting, definitely a good thriller. A hitman with some amazing hits, and one timely miss

Micheal Mann's stunning thriller has left many stunned, including me for a small amount of time. The story was amazing. The set [despite being the cliched LA], showed the eerie, dark parts of it, that epitomized and gave the whole movie a whole dark feeling [either that, or the brightness and intensity @ the theatre was too bad ;-)]. Collateral was a definite worth of Rs. 35/- that I spent today for seeing the movie. The movie had some good moments, and some crazy moments.

Collateral Poster Collateral pic

Tom Cruise plays the role of a hitman [unlike the usual All-American hero], and does it well. Stunning, in fact. The minute he arrives, the whole movie spruces up. Up until then, it was a philosophical cab driver [played by Jamie Foxx - nominated for Best Supporting Actor], preaching about taking a break to a hot shot lawyer [played by Jada Pinkett Smith, nopes no awards/nominations fa her].

Vincent [Tom Cruise] has to perform 5 hits [murders for the non-hitman world], of 5 witnesses to a federal inquiry on the eve of the trial. So, well he decides to get pally with Max [Jamie Foxx] with a gun and well gets to know him better throughout the course of the movie, helping this guy's ass at many times. The movie is B E AUTIFUL, except for the part, when i went off to sleep. Just b4 one of the best shoot out scenes of recent times. [Naah, nothing like The Matrix still].

The attitude of Tom Cruise as a hitman and the evolution from that of a hero to that of a shady character is nothing short of BRILLIANT. Inarguably, one of Cruise's best! Some of the scenes [Cruise shooting some petty kids with guns, was AWESOME!!!]

Vincent: Yo homie! That's my bag u are carrying.
Kid w/ gun: So, what are u gonna do [pointing the gun @ Vincent]
Vincent [with his hands held up]: Nothing... [and something I did not get, so downloading the movies]
Kid w/ gun [moving towards Vincent]: Something incomprehensible again
BAM BAM!!! [vincent takes his gun and shoots the two of them, btw thre were 2 of them]. WOW!! not just that, he then picks up his briefcase when the kid perks up his head and BAM! [HEAD SHOT!!!]. That was just plain, simple, PHENOMENAL!!

Some rantings about the movie: The only part that Micheal Mann sorta crapped up [accoring to me], is when he decided to go with this ending. Vincent's last hit was well Annie [surprise surprise ]. And, Max, the ever confused cabbie decides to play hero, and tries and saves Annie's ass! Now, please note: throughout the movie, Vincent is turning out to be quite a sweet guy. I mean, flowers for Max's mom, saved Max's ass from the hoodlums, saved Max's ass again @ the club shoot out, not to mention giving him some cool tips on improvising to the time. And, still, Max shoots Vincent [leading to his death]. I mean, whoa, what happened? And, any guilty feeling, any remorse on Max's face? No? Its k, fighting for a girl, but still was kinda weird. Now, thinking about it, it wasn't that bad. Initially, our Max the cabbie says that he wants to be the best @ what hez doin! No wonder, he became a true marksman. #-0!! Weird ending, but still, the movie was well worth the money.

It was actually superb!

S7 results are out! I got a beeping 868 [78.9%], bringing my whole aggregate down to 83.3% for my B.Tech [wail]. But, can't complain/rant/rave and this makes me PISSED!!!!! I brought this upon myself. If I have any dreams of getting 85% aggregate @ the end of BTech. I would have to well, get something like 1139 marks out of 1200 for my final SEM!! That is depressing. F*** this! Gonna try, what the hell! Got nothing to do anyway. Still depressed nonetheless

Inspired...

Well Harsh attempted a hand in poetry... I got inspired to write a comment and came up with something impromptu.. Just put it up here as well .. ya know.. CHUMMA!!! =))

Often she passes through my gaze,
And often I dream of her face,
Coz I see it clearly even in haze,
In this life of mine, a Formula 1 Race.

The way she moves, full of grace,
The spirit in her, her dress of lace,
Amazing thoughts her face it says,
And vivid emotions that she portrays.

To see her, I wait a long time,
And while I wait, I play with a dime,
But still I think, would be a crime?
That I just sit and think, and act like a mime!

Someday soon, I will tell her this
That she makes my life, with her very existence - a bliss
And maybe I get lucky and I get a kiss
And with these ramblings, I dismiss

/:)! Naah, not feeling mushy anymore. But, well, am amazed at what crap i come up with when i let my mind wander... Hmmm how abt a poem based on that?<

Ze World and Me!

Was getting bored and had a good pic in hand, and a Linux machine with GIMP! Check this one out...

Ze World and Me

Got tons more snaps from Lax, most of which does include me in it.. Hehe. So, planning to make a college page to hold all these snaps and also Dishaa. Now to find a good Photo host... Don't wanna use my webspace OR bandwidth fa that. Suggestions anyone?

Btw, I rejoined Deviant Art and now have grabbed my page back! Check out Guru Panguji @ Deviant Art Planning to put some more of the stuff that I am working on currently.

Posted on: 25-03-2005 @ 07:50:23 Comments:1

Gurupanguji @ Flickr

Well, so that I can upload the snaps and organize and share them via the web, I tried Flickr. There are some really good points about the site. At the same time, some of it SUCKS big time. Anyhoo, managed to get some snaps online. Unfortunately since I am using my own CMS for blogging, I can't get Flickr to work to integrate with my blogger ... WAIL!!! Stupidity! And a 10MB limit is just way too small. I mean come on!!

Snapshots

Planning to make an edit option for the comments and also make a permanent link for the blogs. I think thatz the only way I can get Google to crawl over my site more. Making it dynamic is cool, but at the same time, I forgot, SPEED!!!! Now, with the DB getting bigger and bigger, the speed is becoming slower and slower. I think I will make a script as soon as I log in on to Linux.

A Retort

Today, I happened to read the Sunday Magazine of the NIE - New Indian Express, the daily paper that I subscribe to. It contained an interesting, yet weird article by our animal lover [no pun intended] - Maneka Gandhi. Titled - "Monkey's Aren't Fools", it was her thoughts, and suggestions to remove commonly used phrases that degrade animals. It was funny at first, thoughtful at second, weird at third, STUPID in the end. To her credit, it was a well written article, but some of the phrases that she condemned are used so commonly and without any sort of harmful intent!

It was ridiculous to see her pouting about this now. I am a vegetarian, and I am completely against animals being slaughtered and slained. But, to see her ranting against these phrases like
[] - Kill two birds with one stone
[] - Raining cats and dogs [altho the origin of this is pretty gross]
[] - Make a monkey out of someone
[] - Place looks like a pigsty
[] - Dog in a manger etc...

What makes me lash out is that people DON'T mean anything when they say it. I mean no one refers to the context or mean anything bad. Trite expressions are just that - they are to be freely used and abused [by excessive use]. Haha, when someone says "It's raining cats and dogs" - they just mean that the rain is heavy. They are NOT referring to the Middle Ages, when the neglected pets died in large numbers and the rain washed their carcasses. Chillax Maneka.

The objective of the article and the message was that "We should change the way we speak to bring a new respect to the animals we refer to when using these trite expressions". I agree with her to some extent, yet the message wasn't that clear with the article, except her pouting. Maybe it's because that I found it a bit ridiculous - a bias on the outset. Btw, you should check out some of her suggestions on what to use instead of the trite phrases - HILARIOUS!!!. "This place looks like my son's room" - takers anyone?? =))!

A jotting while I was making these images =)

And still I feel that I can't move on
From the sadness that I feel must be overgrown
To be in a time, a place, a dimension that is nothing but a farce
To be made a clown, be part of the show as a mime
My face is clear but not yet drawn

Coz, in life, they say, you gotta make your place
In amazing pace, through curts and praise
Might be that u can just reach the moon
But to the Sun is where ur target should raise!

A silent weep, A lulling sleep
Yet None a sign of the meek.

The Matrix Online

Now, that the movies are over [Phew.. thank God it's over rather than continuing stupid stories], whatz the next way for us to jack into the Matrix? Hehe, the trilogy as a whole was bad, but yeah, the first one still has everyone beating to its rhythm. Warnerbros know that, and hence, they are going to capitalize on that same emotion. Released for the PC Platform - The Matrix Online - a MMORPG [Massively Multiplayer Onling Role Playing Game for the non gamers].

I read about it by chance @ Gamespot. Apparently, it's a pretty good game - and the best part about it - the Multiplayer open ended aspect - as in many RPGs [but Matrix is bound to have its charm rite... ]

As expected of it, Matrix builds a whole deal on the web - check out the story line. Is a pretty good read , a refresher course on The Matrix =)! Searching around the net for downloading the game. Let's see how itz!! Btw, check out the fansite kit for some cool Matrix moolah =)! Wonderful stuff inside that kit. Planning to use some for maybe making a mock Matrix website.. Hmmm... just for fun.. Hehe. Gamespot has NOT yet released a review for the game.

Found some videos of the game =)! For those who are interested enough and can afford to download some o them, herez the link

Another deviation

Submitted another deviation entitled "Life in the fast lane".

It's a snapshot of how fast life moves around you. The glowing edges filter of PS7.0 served well to depict the fast moving lines of time.

Life in the Fast Lane

A Verse pops into my mind, when i see this image

Brutal Time
Moves in meanders, time, I think
And chains us through life, link through link
Maybe one or two broken, and it does try to often
The strain, on the weak leads them to the brink
Brutal tho it might be, time doesn't look for the armor, but the chink

Is it me, or is it me

I never thought that there would be a person in this world like me, having my ideas, my thoughts, my aspirations, my ideologies, my principles, my habits. Well, I have been terribly had by my own ignorance again...

Likeness is a very underrated term here.. Just his latest blog tells me all that I need to know.. [not really] but does a lot.. ;-)! Read about "Who the f*** is Mahselkhar" and I am convinced, blood relations are there somewhere!! A must visit for a damn good read

Just Rambling

For those of you who have read that title and are expecting some random words being printed out to you... well you guessed right. Just Rambling could mean a lotta things...

It could mean that I am gonna just crap out stuff.
It could mean that it is a justified set of thoughts and might also be peppered with unjust thoughts

Well, for the moment found only two.
Anyhoo, I am gonna start rhyming randomly, which is going to be absolutely boring to you [hey so far, it's been rhyming =p]

Bored...
Bored, rite now I am, am I?
So stuffed, still dreaming about a veg pie!
This is random, or is it?
Making stuff up is a talent, its implicit!
So, I read an article on Ciggies
And about a guy ranting about the big wiggies!
So what, who cares, I am me
For all I care, let the world be razed by a tsunami!!
Random thoughts, are they meaningless?
Coz the fact is they pop in when u are jobless...
Yawn, Yawn, Yawn
I am indeed waiting for the dawn.
Tired of seeing people live life as a pawn,
Coz, thankfully I am full of brain, and of course, some brawn!!
My o my, this is indeed not making any sense,
But the truth is its like a puzzle without the proper lens.
Coz, there indeed is something hidden
Something deep beneath, biding its time for now to rear its head, its forbidden...
Big deal, so what? F*** that
You are looking like a lab rat
Hey, two new kittens in the house born of a cat
They are cute, and hopefully don't come near me feet, else they are gonna be a door mat.
Not saying that I am heavy, no way
Coz daily to lose a kilo [no, not AIDS] is what i pray
U know the sound a donkey produces is a bray
Hehe, this is French - Mon Freui [sounds Maun Frey]

Sigmund Freud... try and make sense outta that. =)! Well, I can analyse it easily and give a verdict - NONSENSE! I am so bored!!! aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh - a vent of my boredom mixed with sheer frustration - only the beautifully anti aliased "Sans" font of Linux can provide!

People... why don't you comment on something in my site? Is it that you don't have an opinion, or are too lazy to just post your damn opinion? I am not asking you too much am I? If I am, well I am a bit demanding. Overlook that and post on... Coz, I think I need to read something that I don't wanna write.. I think I got a overdose of Aiche - My Minds I. I think I will post a highly technical blog next!

A look back

Had to remit fees for the final exam of my college life. I wonder what it will be like after this? I have this sense of curiosity for the next thing to come that I am feeling that the end of this period of my life, which on discussion with Gautam is 1/5th of my period in Earth - 20% of my life.

20% of my life, I have spent @ SCT College of Engineering, Pappanamcode, Trivandrum. Wonderful! There goes 20% of my life in vain. Hehe, well not all of it! It is a good college, giving us the freedom to do just anything we want to... Although, in this last sem there were some changes [initiated by the new Principal - Monseuir Ramachandran, P V.].

One good thing that college life has indeed provided me is a growing realization as to what I expect of friends? How I _expect_ people to react to me? Hehe, although the journey was filled with ups and downs, it still has given me a set of definitive ideas!

Other doubts cleared off my head about me that college has indeed changed would be the following [as I am writing this impromptu, as I am having a retrospection, this is indeed not an exhaustive list] -

[] My doubts of me being a good manager and a people man - I think that has definitely changed. At the end of BVB [hmm 2 wasted years of my life], I kinda grew up to be a very _selfish_ person I would beleive. I had nothing running on my head, except for what I should be doing to move on with my life? I probably would have resigned to be a loner [coz the path was certainly there, what with people around me, moving off]. I think that has changed to a certain degree for I beleive that I am more an extrovert that I had cared to be in BVB [I was a complete extrovert prior to BVB]. I think probably time at BVB could also have been enjoyable had I really taken the effort? I did learn that there is something called _effort_ to maintain relationships and ties with people. It is not a given for any man or woman. It does require special resources - time and effort. [Life in BVB must have been a resignation for me from what I considered heaven in my lifetime - a year of Rocky Hill High School]

[] I am not so _techie_ that I thought I was. I had considered myself an academic [still do], but I realised that books were my excuse for being a recluse at BVB. I still think that books are good, you never waste a minute reading about something. The only expectation that you have from a book that it is a good read. With people, you kinda widen your expectations to a whole new level.

[] I am probably more confident about my abilities as a vocalist - as a performer - as an orator - as a friend [coz of ze definitive ideas]. I have grown to love the stage - grown to love people cheering for me [when I sing well].

An incident that will be forever etched in the annals of my life is when Potti, Anoop and me decided to perform at the college arts fest in 2nd year. To impress upon people that we are heavy metal lovers - ze headbangers - we decided to perform "Nothing Else Matters". Anyhoo, we were setting up the stage - Anoop on the guitars, as he can't well uhum, maintain his pitch [euphemistically speaking], Potti giving second vocals and me on the leads. At the time of sound check, we found out that the guitar wasn't exactly responding the way we want it to. IOW, the output from the guitar just wasn't there. I suggested to Anoop to back out from the whole thing, as two guys singing Nothing Else Matters, without a guitar accompaniment is surely the easiest way to get booed, to even get some stuff for free in the stage [coz of people _giving_ it to you through projectile motion].

But, Anoop was strongheaded and said that it will sound well, once we start, and we decided to continue. Little did I know how serious a repercussion it will have in my life!! The curtain rose, and we started. THERE WAS ZERO OUTPUT FROM THE GUITAR - at least it wasn't audible over our "Hetfield/Newstead" combo. What more, we were performing the S&M version of the song - Haha. It was booing ALL the way! Sissies, even Sid and Gautam stopped supporting us. Haha, i still sit back and wonder, what the hell made me SO thick skinned that I would stand and sing until the END of the whole song - an easy 6 minutes [original track takes 6mins 50 secs]. Anyhoo, at the end of the _show_ I was scared. Scared for getting OUT of stage for fear of being mauled [and not by fans]. But, I always have that image before any show - gives me the necessary courage to get on stage for ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING. If people can't do anything to me after that glimpse at The hell's choir, anything that I do even remotely better will definitely provide a better reponse from the crowd. I always call it the day I became thick skinned. =)!

Just another 4 more working days of college to go, and it's over - finito, done, over, period. [Of course, the inconvenience of exams are there..Hehe]. However, I am reminded of some verses from the song "Wasted Years" on this occasion.

Too much time on my hands, I got you on my mind,
Can't ease this pain, so easily,
When you can't find the words to say, it's hard to make it through another day,
And it makes me wanna cry, and throw my hands up to the sky.

So understand
Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years,
Face up...make your stand,
And realise you're living in the golden years.

[] No more waking up @ 8am and rushing through your daily procs and reaching college [about 10 mins away by a two wheeler] by 9:30am.
[] No more sitting in class and listening to lectures [or pretending to do so, whilst you are busy day dreaming or yapping to your mate by your side]
[] No more cutting classes to go watch a movie, or just while away time at home, or the ever so trited "hanging out"
[] No more series [WOOHOO!!!], late night study sessions [not gonna miss that either]
[] No more Table Tennis in college [coz going by what Arjun says - at least 2-3 hours of TT can be expected as Siemens]
[] No more sitting in class, and wondering when are we gonna get outta this place - the time has come - but has it come too fast?

I am full of mixed emotions, and no emotions for leaving SCT. Will I miss all this? I think my looking forward to life after this overshadows the "leaving" part. I think life is still to be lived under, although it will be fraught with much more hard work, at least much more than what I have over the course of my past 4 years. Empty excuses will work no more. No more looking at the teachers and saying, "I am sorry, Ma'am, I will definitely submit it tomorrow". No more _getting away_ anymore. I guess I will be more responsible of my life from now on.[After all coz it matters as I will earning my bread with that]

Any sadness of leaving the place? Yeah, guess there are some, but then hey, life moves on. People come, people go. It's the time spent with them in your life that matters the most.

A few lines pop into my mind

Retrospecting...
Thinking back, four years down the lane,
Gone by so fast, now a glimpse of life through a window pane
A lot of ups, a few downs,
Have had an amazing number of smiles, and of course a few frowns
Twas fraught with friends, foes [aka teachers] and events
Que sara - Thatz the way it is, ain't it? Mom had warned me that these years will pass real fast
She was right, but she forgot to say that memories forever last

Star Wars

Finally, its coming... Been waiting for it quite some time. Star Wars III : Revenge of the Sith

I have been quite fascinated by the Star Wars Saga. Although it's the typical "A New Hope" story. But, the complex, cohesive universe setting with some beautiful characters make this quite a beautiful movie series [save for Attack of the Clones]. I even managed to read the script/dialogues version of "The Phantom Menace". I should say that Lucas was indeed going somewhere with that. I am waiting for this movie eagerly where in Darth Vader finally is made!

Searched around and found the plot of "Revenge of the Sith"! [Warning: This will spoil the movie per se, but I wanted to read it coz I can't wait till its released here! =D!

Bah humbug, I am too interested in Star wars now. A simple search in Google brought home these babies. They are the scripts in detail of the movies, save for the ones after Episode VI. They are plots for the movies/book.

Here are the links for the scripts [final version] of the movies. Go to the parent site for the corresponding drafts in case you are interested
Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Episode IV: A New Hope
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Episode VII: The Fallen Hero [supposed to be penned by Lucas himself]
Episode VIII: The Republic in Crisis
Episode IX: Victory of the Force

On a related topic I found a document detailing the history of the Jedi and the Sith. Pretty interesting read. History of the Jedi and Sith.

Stone Cold

Stone Cold Steve Austin: The Texas Rattlesnake! Easily the most charismatic professional wrestler I know of. Hell, I have been completely adulating him for some time. Everything about him has this amazing "F *.*" attitude. Be it his trash talks [altho these days John Cena is taking that track, and doing it pretty well also], his finishing move - the Stunner, or his beer guzzling antics in the ring. Smithil gave an excellent link in the groups and I had to provide it as part of my blog.

Stone Cold Steve Austin Check the link out!! And thatz the bottom line, coz Stone Cold said so

Aaaahh cold days

Cold weather - I love it. It is the perfect recluse from the hot humid days. And all it speaks of is - laziness, lethargy, snuggling close to your someone in bed [or for the (un)lucky ones like me, with my blanket]. Add to it a nice book, and incessant sips of coffee, with the fans at _full blast_, life's a bliss.

I am more the cold weather liker than the hot weather liker. I love dressing up in jackets and layers of clothing. Wow, can't wait to feel cold weather at B'lore when I move over in July. Woohoo!! It is good for spending ur vacation in a warm climate, but not ur working hours/time. Why sweat and toil, when u can easily laze and not boil? That's my motto.

What more? Trivandrum rite now is under rain, and that is the closest I can get to cold weather. About 19 *C [degrees Celsius], I am waiting for the end of this to lie down in bed, cover myself with a blanket, put the fans in full blast, and re read "The Eleventh Commandment" by Jeffrey Archer. Btw, just another 3 more days to go for end of "professional undegraduate education" to come to a close.

Demo week is in full flow. Last Thursday was "Counter" special, where in the guys wore mundu with a white shirt and a neriyal [Yajaman style]. The gals wore half sarees. I must say all of them looked smashing, and myself - AMAZING!

Today [Monday] was Aadivasi day. We all dressed up as Aadivaasis. Hehe, it was good. Funny. Shall post some pics as soon as I get them. Tomorrow planning on "Tsunami hit fishermen"!!

Memoirs

It's over... finito... A reality check just hit me, and made me take stock of my life today - it was the last day of regular classes for my undergraduate studies. It's all over. Now all that remain are a string of internal and external evaluations to get me the glorious degree. It was a pretty fun day today. Probably the most FUN day in the whole of B.Tech - I met EVERYONE today in class and said my Buh Byes [altho I will be seeing all on Monday, when we have to take the impending doom, termed "series exams" - session 2]. For that matter, I will be seeing most of them tomorrow afternoon, when we have to submit the lab records for the Unix programs.

Still, the moment was savored by one and all today - in their own style. Some stood by quietly, congregated in a corner, amongst more muted concerned faces, as if facing a flashback, a flurry of scenes through the 4 years. Whilst some, were really in the moment, wanting to be in just every pic that was snapped today [me and Remin safely fall into this cat]! Unfortunately Anoop [ART] couldn't make it coz of his cousin's marriage in Palghat. I can't say anything else, but DAMN I MISSED HIM TODAY! The emotions flying through the air was palpable. People, no matter, how elated they were through the day, were beginning to falter - maybe realizations hitting them like a time bomb.

As usual Choti Lax faltered and broke down first - about half an hour from 4:30pm - when the last hour of the last day ends!! It started a precisely timed detonations of emotions going through Simi, Shilpa, Aishu, Sindhu S, and so on until our baby Sonz joined in by rushing out suddenly. BOOM - it struck on her as well. The last one to be attacked by the emotions swelling up in the room was Lax. Hehe.

No matter what, I think as I sat on the desk today, it hit me as well - I am gonna missed that damned place. No matter what I say - looking forward to joining SISL, whatever. I am GONNA MISS THAT GOD FORSAKEN PLACE!!!. Say whatever - SCT is my Alma Mater. =) and now I am damned proud of sayin it as well. As Lax put it - "Now I like my class sooooooooooooooooo much".

I am gonna miss 61 people who shared the coveted position of being the batch of 2005 with me - and GOD as my witness, I am so proud of EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM. This is dedicated to them

Batch of 2005
62 they were, filled with the natural variety that u normally see
Yet, each one of them special, taking life together in pain and glee
Went through VC, they did together, and they took on Subbu as well
And the teachers they took on, they kept claiming their class was hell
But little did they know that they were in heaven
And the bearded history they have will forever remain unshaven
I am proud to say that I am from batch of 2005
Yeah people, Batch of 2005, they set the whole SCT alive
They hosted the biggest show in TVM
And set standards to everyone, they showed people how to do 'em

Well, so it has ended - the last of the regular classes for the BTech degree. Coursework completed, we trudge on for the final barricade - the final step - the culmination of 4 years in what I would say at least today - the prestigious institution of SREE CHITRA THIRUNAL COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, PAPPANAMCODE, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - damned exams yaar. Anyway we can somehow scoot that :-?!!

Reunion toast

This is defi gonna be my reunion toast. Credit goes to the genius who wrote this

Reunion
oh! the last 20 years has gone so sooner,
The great college days, I started remembering,
Seems like only yesterday I finished engineering.

Seeing my class mates, after 20 years,
My eyes were filled with tears,
Everyone has changed a lot,
No one escaped nature's plot.

Guys who were smart and handsome,
have become bald and buxom,
Girls who used to fill our dreams,
Almost brought out screams.

Saw the girl, whom once I thought as my life,
oops!, today she is somebody else's wife,
after years, talked to her for a little while,
learned she is happy, that made me smile.

Entered our class' Mr. Romeo,
Who has played many a cameo
We started teasing him together,
About what all he did to-get-her,

Project reviews to campus interviews,
Nicknames to last bench games,
Cultural rehearsals to love proposals,
Short term crushes to class room blushes.

Everything was fresh in our mind,
Wished life could rewind,
Laughed, played and rejoiced,
Once again we became girls and boys.

Chatting and laughing, we all were in elation,
Till the painfull moment of seperation,
It was time to part,
returned with a heavy heart.

Today life is full of commitments,
And too many worries,
But those cherished moments,
Will live forever in our memories..

A few links that I picked up over the net, some of them have been added to hookups as well

Ramblings of an Eccentric Soul

Came across my old archive and spent some time porting it to this new style. =) Good Work. Now most of the blogs can be accessed right from here. Whilst I was going through it, I came across a jotting that I made!

Ramblings of an Eccentric soul
So tired of this strife
That we call life
An aged shadow
We call asoul alongside

Caught in a myriad of blazing past
And a flash takes you into a new vast
Run Amok, you don't give a fuck
Searching for a new place where you hafta park

A forward takes you a step back in time
Yet,a gamble, a flip of a dime
As you think of your time in this body, your life a solitary mime
And around you plays songs of a deadly rhyme

Your past period flashes in front of you
In itz blaze shows ur life in its prime
And as u spentabsorbing any aberration
Not givin thot, w/o any cognition

A notion is dancing all around me
As if trying to prewarn me
Of another lot that its found
Revving along the vast with a noiseless sound

And then I see it
As I encounter a fit
The space waiting for me
To dock and unlock, my body the key

Dunno, what I was exactly thinking then? But yeah, I think I got what the gist of this is. =)! Oh those times .. ;-)!

Joining a small organization

Over ice cream today, there sparked off a tiny piece of debate that is still ringing in my mind while I am typing this through. But, I wanted to collect my thoughts regarding this and then present the matter. Well, I guess instead of a comparison first, I think I will present the facts on each option and then move on to a comparison as a summary.

A Small Company:Everyone generally knows the "advantages" of joining a small | medium sized software firm. Let me enumerate it just in case
[] You grow with the company.
[] You get _recognized_ fast [I will present the counter-arguments for this later].
[] If it's a good enough organization, your growth will be faster.

What I perceive: Joining a small company may not be as simple as it is. How I would put it is a big gamble. The first being the reason as to why that company is called a _small_ company. A company can be small based on
[] Strength of its workforce.
[] The diversity of its verticals.
[] Maturity of the company.
The best part about "small" companies is that they _grow_ [well they HAVE TO in case you want to be associated with a _good_ company]. I am talking of a growing company - growth defined in terms of
[] Number of projects coming in.
[] Number of people being used by the company.
[] Maturity of the company - "thinking like a small company even though they are edging to become a big conglomerate" [quoting Jack Welch].

Only if you are in a "small growing" company would it be advisable for you to stick with it, especially if you are considering a "job"!

The reason as to why people say that they are _recognized_ faster and that their _growth_ is faster in a small company is simple enough. Being a small company, they don't have many people. Consequently your karma and charisma will reach bear itself on the top level very fast. Now here's where the trick is. ONLY IF THE COMPANY IS GROWING, will you be growing faster. If you are asking for justification, here it is
[] Small companies, unless they have enough projects coming in CANNOT and usually DO NOT post you to a leadership role for the simple reason that they may not want to shake the balance. Even if the PM [Project Manager] isn't as charismatic as you, he's PM for a certain reason and the company isn't certainly going to change him, especially since he's delivering.
[] Your charisma and karma could come out as a threat to your immediate superiors who are also in this rat race. Consequently, your pressures may just build
[] If you would notice another thing, if the company isn't _growing_, then you are in a soup, as your growth would also be equally stunted =). This is especially the case, if it's a products company.

That last point is why I would say that joining a small firm is a gamble. Coz it could bring home the mother load, or it could force you into the job market sooner. It's EXACTLY what you should do, if you are up to it and want to make a jump start to a promising career in any field. Because making a mark is easier amongst 2,000 people over 32,000 and more ::blushing. Please note that this is NOT a sign of meekness. It's smart thinking what exactly you want from a career that should make you determine joining humongous giants of the industry like TCS, Infosys, Wipro having over 30,000 people on the average on their payroll, or the smaller variants who are bound to grow coz of their wonderful product, fire in the belly drive to grow, and their overall effusiveness to just struggle and move on.

Another reason why I one may like a small company is that you soon get close to the 2,000 off people you work for [still is a huge number]. Along the same lines, a large organization might just be what you need if you are missing the large crowds and dance parties ;-)!

In the end, it all boils down to one actually. What do you expect out of your career at any stage? Masti @ work, think innovatively and try to implement them in your work place, enjoy your ass by a late night session of brain-storming as to why the hell isn't that problem getting solved with your teammates over pizza, and generally a less structured, more informal work culture? Then I think that is found more often in small companies. At the same time, if you are taking the more traditional line of a "job" and don't mind taking the "usual path to stardom", usually a long drawn process that is FIXED, but enjoy time with a lotta people, and generally are ready to put in long hours, coz it's expected outta you and comes with the job description, work in HUMONGOUS offices with large amount of recreation [even an open air auditorium ::whoa], then you are looking at a large organization.

Note: I have not discussed about the pay aspects of the companies. Generally you are paid better in a small company, and often it's based on your performance, evaluated in terms of profit that it fetched to the company. There are other aspects that accompany this as well viz. how you might be paid as well. =)! Right now, I have to get back to getting bored so I will take a break from typing. I will have to reorganize my points on this as well and so I am expecting a rewrite of this soon.!

RSS Feed done

So, every blogger has an RSS feed. Why? Well, for the simple reason that it is goddamn useful to make your site popular amongst the blog "readers". These people want to read all the updated blogs under one hood [usually a news reader or an RSS feed reader]. For e.g. I use Thunderbird for my POP mail and blog reading. =)!. The best part was that it was also useful for testing out my RSS Feeds.

The entire process was just too easy with PHP and reading the specification of RSS 0.91. Now, although this is not the "purist" way of RSSing. They latest version is RSS 2.0 and it has some real good crap. Anyway, I found that RSS 0.91 works just fine for most of the cases and is the easiest to create the XML feed for =)!.

So, what do you have to do? Just create an XML file bearing the necessary details of the title, description and link, along with the author name. This entry is added as an "item" into the XML feed sheet, and there you go. Add the initial specs and voila.

If you would like to subscribe to "Ramblings of an Eccentric Soul...", just paste this link to your RSS feed reader http://members.lycos.co.uk/gurupanguji/rss/ramblings.xml !! Planning to make an RSS feed of the hookups table =)!. Now that would be interesting, adding a live bookmark of a list of bookmarks.. [Wicked laughter]!!

<^› ‹(•ż•)› ‹^› I think this ASCII sig is quite cool =)!

Reflections Reflections Reflections

Whaddya know? A 9KB patch and a 1.12KB patch would be the reason for unfound happiness =)! Released by pcgamemods.com, the patch is for those cards who are not getting reflections as a result of running HL2 and CSS in the DX8 mode. The patch is very small, and the best part - ZERO PERFORMANCE LOSS. It makes you say as Gautam put it rightly [Stupid Valve!!]. The patch is so efficient that gamers are now recommending people with DX9 cards to come down to DX8 and use this patch to enjoy excellent performance.

Patches can be found here:

Upgrade yourself from the world of coding

I came across this article on the Web on how "techies" _have_ to think outside coding =D. Pretty interesting read =)! Have underlined some interesting points, and substituted some relevant links that came out of some googling! Information enclosed within brackets [ ] are my thoughts as I read through the article, and _NOT_ the author's viewpoint.

Upgrade yourself from the world of coding
Subroto Bagchi

The other day, I met a bright young engineer in MindTree and asked him what his ambition was. He was very clear. "I want to be an architect". My next question to him was, what does he read? He looked surprised and then replied that he does not read much outside what appears on a computer screen. My next question to him was whom all does he admire in MindTree among the three best architects? He named the predictable three. Then I told him what the fundamental gap was between him and the best three. It was about the ability to make intelligent conversation about any subject under the sun - a capability borne out of serious reading habits.

The next thing I asked him to do was to poll these three on what were the six books they had read last. The result was amazing. The three named eighteen books in all - of which at least six were common. Ninety percent of the books had nothing to do with information technology. The exercise proves a key point - to be a great nerd, one has to have interests outside writing code. However, many engineers think that the path to a great technical career is about technical skills alone.

Long back, Bell Labs conducted an interesting study - closely watching the common characteristics among a group of technical professionals who rose to the top. The exercise revealed nine key factors outside just technical competence that differentiated brilliant technical folks from the masses. The study was conducted by Robert Kelly of Carnegie Mellon and Janet Caplan of Williams College. As I see the Indian industry today, I think the study done at Bell Labs remains relevant in every detail.

The Bell Labs engineers who did extremely well for themselves - as they progressed in their career, showed the following qualities that differentiated them from their peers:
[] Taking Initiative
[] Cognitive Ability
[] Networking
[] Leadership
[] Teamwork
[] Followership
[] Perspective
[] Organisation savvy and [] Show-and-tell capability.
Let us look at each of these and see what lies underneath.

Taking initiative:
This is about accepting responsibility above and beyond your stated job. It is about volunteering for additional activities and promoting new ideas. None of these will jump out as apparent as a young engineer gets in to her first job. She will tend to think that her career progress is really dependent only on the ability to write code. The concept of initiative begins by looking for technical and other opportunities in the organisation and volunteering for them [Hmm... I thought this was a given]. The idea of volunteering is little understood - both by organisations and individuals. In the days to come, it will gain increasing prominence in our professional lives.

Initiative is also about two other things - dealing constructively with criticism and planning for the future [the latter makes sense and is kinda ok, but the former.. =D what if I show <^› ‹(•ż•)› ‹^›]. The latter is a function of many things - a good starting point is to start mapping the environment, learning to understand how the future is unfolding and then stepping back to ask, how am I preparing myself?

Cognitive abilities:
The concept of cognitive development is about understanding the interplay of technology and trends in how they are getting deployed. It is also about recognising the business eco-system in which technology works. It is about situational understanding and consequence thinking. The importance of consequence thinking is very critical. It asks us to look beyond the immediate deliverable of a task and it is about asking who will be impacted by my work, what is the end state? People in our industry just think in terms of modules and seldom ask where is it going, who is my customer and more importantly - who is my customer's customer? Cognition is a key faculty that determines how much we are able to read patterns, make sense of things. Refining cognitive skills helps us to go beyond stated needs of our customers to explore unstated needs. [Cognitive Ability... On a note, test your cognitive ability here]

Networking:
We tend to think of networking in a social sense. As one grows higher in life, we are often as powerful as is our network. Building a professional network requires us to step out of the comfort zone to look at whom can I learn from. Quite often, and more as one progresses in life, the learning has to come from unusual sources. At MindTree, we expose our people to social workers, architects, graphic designers, teachers, people who lead government organisations, leaders from client organisations. The interesting thing about benefiting from a network is that it works like a savings bank. I need to deposit in to it before I withdraw.[WHOA: what an analogy =D!] We all have heard about how important internal and external knowledge communities are. Again, in MindTree, we encourage people to belong to 26 different knowledge communities that run on a non-project based agenda and are vehicles of learning. These create networking opportunities and open many doors.

Leadership:
Next to networking is development of leadership skills. Many technical people associate it with "management" and shy away from developing key leadership skills like communication, negotiation, influencing, inter-personal skills, business knowledge, building spokespersonship and so on.[Not me, I think these are _very_ important]. Take for instance negotiating as a skill. Imagine that you are an individual professional contributor. Why should you learn to negotiate? Tomorrow, your organisation becomes member of a standard body and you have to represent the organisation as a technical expert. You will find yourself needing to negotiate with powerful lobbies that represent a competing viewpoint or a rival standard. Unless you have honed your capability alongside your hacking skills, you will be at a complete loss[Hmm... do I smell a conspiracy theory novel here??]. Yet, you do not discover your negotiating capability one fine morning. You need to work on it from an early stage. Negotiating for internal resources is becoming another critical need. You can choose to remain an individual professional contributor but from time to time, you have to create mind share in the organisation where resources are limited and claimants are many. Establishing thought leadership is another key requirement of growth and independent of whether I want to be a technical person or grow to be a manager, I need to develop as a leader who can influence others.[B E A UTIFULly put]

Teamwork:
Our educational system does not teach us teamwork. If you ever tried to solve your test paper "collaboratively" - it was called copying[::grin.. Amen]. You and I spent all our school and college life fiercely competing to get the engineering school and seat of our choice. Then comes the workplace and you suddenly realise that it is not individual brilliance but collective competence that determines excellence.[Hahaha, it does make sense doesn't it?] Collaboration is the most important part of our work life. Along with collaboration come issues of forming, norming, storming, performing stages of team life. Capability to create interdependencies, capability to encourage dialogue and dissension, knowledge sharing become critical to professional existence. All this is anti-thesis of what we learn in the formative years of life. Add to it, our social upbringing - our resource-starved system tells us to find ways and means to ensure self-preservation ahead of teamwork. In Japan, the country comes first, the company (read team) comes next and I come last. In India, it is the other way round.

Followership:
The best leaders are also great followers. We can be great leaders if we learn and imbibe the values of followership. Everywhere you go - there are courses that teach leadership.

Nowhere you will find a business school teaching you followership. Yet, when solving complex problems in life, we have to embrace what is called "situational leadership". I have to be comfortable being led by others, I must learn to trust leadership. Many people have issues reporting to a test lead as a developer, or being led by a business analyst or a user interface designer. In different parts of a project life cycle, people of varied competence must lead. I must be comfortable when some one else is under the strobe light [intended or should it have been spot light.. have to check on this usage]. I must have the greatness to be led by people younger than I, people with a different background or a point of view. That is how I learn.

Perspective:
This is the hardest to explain. It begins with appreciating why I am doing what I am doing. Quite often, I find people having a very narrow view of their tasks; many do not see the criticality of their task vis-ŕ-vis a larger goal. So, a tester in a project sees his job as testing code or a module designer's worldview begins and ends with the module. He does not appreciate the importance of writing meaningful documentation because he thinks it is not his job or does not realise that five years from now, another person will have to maintain it.

I always tell people about the story of two people who were laying bricks. A passer by asked the first one as to what he was doing. He replied, "I am laying bricks". He asked the second one. He replied, "I am building a temple". This story explains what perspective is and how the resultant attitude and approach to work can be vastly different.

Organisational savvy:
As technical people grow up, they often feel unconnected to the larger organisation. Some people develop a knack of exploring it, finding spots of influence, tracking changes, creating networks and in the process they learn how to make the organization work for them. The organisation is not outside of me. If I know it well, I can get it to work for me when I want. Think of the difference between one project manager and another or one technical lead from another. One person always gets the resources she needs - the other one struggles. One person knows who is getting freed from which client engagement and ahead of time blocks the person. One person reacts to an organisational change and finds himself allocated to a new project as a fait accompli - another person is able to be there ahead of the opportunity. Larger the organisation, higher is the need to develop organisation savvy. It begins with questioning ones knowledge about the larger business dynamic, knowing who does what, tracking the work of other groups, knowing leaders outside of my own sphere and a host of other things. Importantly, it is also about tracking what the competitors of the organization are doing and keeping abreast of directional changes.

Show and tell:
This is the bane of most Indian software engineers. We all come from a mindset that says; if you know how to write code, why bother about honing communication skills? Recently, we asked a cross section of international clients on what they think is the number one area of improvement for Indian engineers? They replied in unison, it is communication. Show and tell is about oral and written communication. Some engineers look down upon the need for communication skills and associate it with people who make up for poor programming prowess. It is the greatest misconception. Think of the best chief technology officers of companies like Microsoft, Oracle, IBM Global Services or Sun. Their number one job is evangelizing.[Funny, when he puts it that way =)) ]

If they cannot forcefully present their technologies, nothing else will matter. So, every engineer must pay attention to improving the ability to present in front of people, develop the ability to ask questions and handle objections. In a sense, if you cannot sell the technology you create, it has no value. So, building salespersonship is a key requirement for technical excellence.

The foregoing points are not relevant if you have already filed your first patent at the age of eighteen. Everyone else, please take note.[::grin]

Single Finger Salute!

Pluck Yew
[Source: http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a980904.html]

THE MIDDLE FINGER

Also known as:
[] the one-finger salute
[] the highway salute
[] flipping (someone) off
[] flipping the bird
[] the Trudeau salute [in Canada]

Instructions to show the gesture:
Keep your middle finger raised, while bending the rest of your fingers at the second knuckle. [helps if u have long fingers, also helps if u breathe out "F*** you"]

Origin:
Ze history of the middle finger! Well, the interest came into being after I found a cool ASCII sig. So, a little research brought out some interesting info that I have been updating myself with, prior to the Software Engineering Series exam. =D!

There are many versions as to how the middle finger came into being. According to one story, the "single finger salute" actually has a meaning.

It was the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 that brought about the "middle finger" being a derogatory gesture. The Frech anticipating the victory over the English threatened to cut off their middle fingers. Why the middle fingers you may ask? Well, the English Longbow was the most feared weapon of the time - the Englishmen being world renown archers. So, on chopping off the middle fingers, the archers would be unable to shoot arrows. [Note professional archers even today hold the arrow with their index and middle fingers =D]. But, the threat never materialized as the English held their ground and even won the battle. Consequently, the English started mocking the French by giving them the "single finger salute".

It gets better. As the English longbow was made with Yew, using the longbow was called "Plucking the Yew". So along with erecting the middle finger, the English also used to say "See we can still Pluck Yew!" Now, as folk etymologies go, a lot of etymologies have grown around this gesture. As it's difficult to pronounce "pluck yew", [read pleasant mother pheasant plucker - the person who you had to go to for the feathers used on the arrows for the longbow], this consonant cluster gradually changed to the labiodental fricative 'F', yielding probably one of the most popular phrases of this century. Well, another piece of news is that the arrows also used "pheasant" feathers. Hence the reason as to why this gesture is also known as "giving the bird".

Note: The Wikipedia gives another origin per se. Check the resullt here:

deCollapse Inc.

Well, Remin got creative [as usual, during the series times... =D, else he just sleeps], and created an interesting picture. Hehe! Titled "deCollapse 2035". He claims that it's Sid on the left and Moi on the right. =D! Missing are the two other to be co-founders of deCollapse Inc. - Gautam and Anoop.

deCollapse 2035

I cannot beleive there are suddenly 3 blogs today. Well, this is what series exams do to you. They make you so absolutely bored, that you get back to whatever you were doing and overdo it just to get your face outta the book.

MIB

Nopes, not the ever poular Men in Black, but it's with a change - Men in BACK - the class team who have self proclaimed their aloofness in physical participation to anything that the class does, but will of course provide with the complete "MORAL, LOGICAL support" [quoting Sreekumar]. They have come up with a website [don't go to it for the design or readability], but the articles there are just STUPENDOUS!!

This is what I would call a "piece of writing"! Amazing work. This is HUMOUR! Anyway, please feel free to check out the "amazing site of MIB" Men in Back

The best article would of course be their Personality of the Week. I _have_ got to add them in my hook ups section.

Wanderlust

Lyrics, music, beats, amazing guitaring. That is JUST what this song is. I have grown to LOVE this song. It could be easily one of the best songs I have heard. The lyrics are also amazingly deep. Megadeth RULZ!! Metallica is slowly wearing off me. Megadeth just simply are SUPERB!!! Dave Mustin Rulz!!

Wanderlust
As sure as the sun rises in the east
Another gunman will come seeking my defeat
Will he be as fast as me, are his nerves quiet and still
Will he fall like all the rest ending his days upon boothill

I’m an outcast riding into town alone
I got wanderlust branded deeper than the bone
I’m an outcast riding into town alone
I got a lust for wandering branded deeper than the bone

As I ride into the sunset to take another town
Thank you for the invite, but I just can’t settle down
The dust that coats my hat is from a dozen towns
Dust from shooting down another dozen clowns

I’m an outcast riding into town alone
I got wanderlust branded deeper than the bone
I’m an outcast riding into town alone
I got a lust for wandering branded deeper than the bone

A drum beats for me, it’s louder every day
The cadence tells me that soon I’ll meet my judgment day
Life’s an endless showdown never knowing when they’ll come
I sleep with one eye open lying with my smoking gun

The game I play has caused a lot of grief
They were dying for fame, so I obliged them some relief

I’m an outcast riding into town alone
I got wanderlust branded deeper than the bone
I’m an outcast with lightning in my hand
I got wanderlust lost in no man’s land

I got a lust for wandering lost in no man’s land
I got wanderlust

That's a beautiful song. I would give 10 stars out of 5. It's just that damn good. I just realised that i have been missing out on a lot of time today, working on the damned documentation. I hope that it's k! I have sweated quite a lot on it... #-o!! Well, I am an outcast riding into town alone...Head banger!!!

Breakable

Breakable
Glittering, shimmering were the pieces
And the passers by breathed "Oh Jesus"
Surrounding her was her skirt, with blood-stained creases

Slowly, slightly into well worn grooves
Suriviving, striving hard, life moves
Moves past her, past the bright change that was strewn loose

A stream through the thick
A pall that shades over everything, a sudden flick
When the angel was swept away by a demonic lick

Struggling as we are unable
To overcome her same fate, her line finally stable
Life's precious, and it can flip, it's breakable

This poem was inspired by a deviation made by ilessthan3you. Gave me these thoughts and so I just let ramble. There was more, but thought that this itself was quite unsteady.

The Year 2038 Problem

Just when you thought that world was saved from a mammoth of a problem called Y2k[check out Y2k for an associated set of problems], up comes another one. This time, the premise is on a more beautiful date setting.

It will be due to the simple overflow of an int data type - time_t.

Early UNIX programmers had quite a sense of humor. In their documentation for the tunefs utility, a command-line program that fine-tuned the file system on the machine's hard disk, a note at the end reads "You can tune a file system, but you can't tune a fish." A later generation of UNIX authors, fearful that stuffy, humorless corporate drones would remove this cherished pun, added a programmer's comment inside the documentation's source code that read, "Take this out and a UNIX demon will dog your steps until the time_t's wrap around!"

On January 19, 2038, that is precisely what's going to happen.

For the uninitiated, time_t is a data type used by C and C++ programs to represent dates and times internally. (You Windows programmers out there might also recognize it as the basis for the CTime and CTimeSpan classes in MFC.) time_t is actually just an integer, a whole number, that counts the number of seconds since January 1, 1970 at 12:00 AM Greenwich Mean Time. A time_t value of 0 would be 12:00:00 AM (exactly midnight) 1-Jan-1970, a time_t value of 1 would be 12:00:01 AM (one second after midnight) 1-Jan-1970, etc.. Since one year lasts for a little over 31 000 000 seconds, the time_t representation of January 1, 1971 is about 31 000 000, the time_t representation for January 1, 1972 is about 62 000 000, et cetera.

You can read more on the problem and solutions here. The Year 2038 Problem.

Random it is...

So, today marked the final set of stuff that we have to do with college, save for the stable University Exams. They start on the 16th of May, which essentially means that this soul has some freedom and time to kill. So, it gets time to plan things out - study the time and try and make most out of it.

This provides me with two choices actually
[] Work on a study plan so that I can meet my aim of getting 85% aggregate [i need about 1138 marks out of 1200 =))]
[] Enjoy my ass off till the penultimate week of the Uni exams, which essentially would amount to about another week of gapshap!

Anyway, today I attended the "mappila ayappu" [Tamil] - translated would mean "Welcoming the Bridegroom" in English. It was Sreeram's elder sister's marriage [Deepa Akka]. It was fun. The sevai provided in the evening couple with pulisheri was YUMMY!!! I am a fan of generally any cuisine - especially South Indian cuisine. I guess at this point of time, I really do prefer Dosas to Rotis. Rasam to Paneer Makhan waala. Keerai mashiyal to Palak paneer. Well, not that I don't like the latter comparisons, but just that I am learning to enjoy what you call "home food", "ghar ka khaana", "veetu shaapaadu". =)!

I have gone through various cuisine phases in my life. Junk food, and I mean REAL JUNK FOOD was a period. Then for sometime, my tongue had gone Chinese! A brief stint of North Indian cuisine followed. But, now staying for more than about 8 months or so, my "chava" for Curd Rice, and the likes.

Well, coming back to the wedding, the wedding was a pleasant occasion. More than 30 people had come for the ceremony today, with Pattu and Plumber Ayyaps practically spending the whole day there. I think Pattu even got a small ponch by the end of the day, for the sheer enormity of the food being provided to us. I savored Lemon Sevai, the Rasa Vadai - the wonderful caffeine agent - coffee =p~.

Tomorrow is the actual wedding. Shall be there most of the time enjoying and yapping away to glory. =)!

Well, I was thinking about another thing that I was talking with Gautam, well actually been thinking a lot about since the time I had the discussion with Gautam. Gautam once told me that "I don't have principles". Well, although his tone was one of accusation, but it did make me introspect.

The reason why he said that was because of the reason that I don't stick to what I decided on. Well, fluttering of decisions cannot be exactly attributed to principles, although for probably humoring him I often say - yeah I agree. [Gautam might just say - "See, I told ya. You are lying. You go no principles].

But, as I think more and more about it, i realise that it can hardly be the basis of being principled or not [1], and secondly, how much do principles really matter in making you a person?

Shall write in later as I have to go and buy milk Damn! Shall try and complete it, but most probs, my train of thought would have been derailed by the time I come back!

Randomness.. is it building to chaos?

It amazes me clearly and everytime that I learn something new. Unlike other things in life, time has not rubbed its monotonous paw over "learning". Well, I think possibly that is one of the reasons we move on, strive, and hopefully in the end thrive.

Well, anyway, was taking a look at Divya's blog and sorta followed links at the very many names that appear with seeming regularity on her Tagboard. Well, I am envious! Her reach is simply amazing. Follow the links from that site, there is a combinatorial explosion of the number of links that you can amass to have what I would claim to be excellent reach. Pretty cool!

I was reading through The Prometheus Deception, by Ludlum. I remember two OK books by him - Cry of the Halidon, and Bourne Identity. Well, please don't read these books, based on the other two. This one sucked BIG TIME. Although, my dad loved the book. I guess it's what you would call a "typical thriller". The author waving through the plot, creating many sidelines and leading the story through various waypoints, which presented in itself, might just have been many stories. I have just 1 statement about the book. Ludlum was splattering his dialogues with ambiguous emotions - a technique writers often use [and use well]. However, in this particular book, I felt that this technique was used sporadically. The effect was monotonity [is there a word like that?]! Read it, and forget it! The book is a quickie [at best]

Well, in the recent weeks, I guess I have been devouring books one after the other. It all began with The Godfather, followed by State of Fear [Crichton], A Case of Need [Crichton], Re read The Eleventh Commandment, Honor Among Thieves [Archer]. Well, itching to read more, or should that have been yearning to read more?

I _love_ books. I love curling up through the various beds, and floors through the house, switching on all the fans [and getting shouted at by Thatha]! Well, I personally prefer reading through rainy days! Fans @ FULL BLAST, a blanket over you, and a keg of pepsi and some chips to boot. Wow, the mere thought makes me extremely comfortable in spite of the pouting heat in this particular room

It's about 2:30am here, I thought I wouldn't write too much, and just possibly type something to yank the attention off from needing a smoke. But, I guess that may not be answered fully! I am retiring after a drag! G'nite to me! I love you my intelligent idiot box!!!

Metal Truck hits the Road

What, you ask? A Metal truck? But aren't those already there with a lot of wood? No, I am talking about a Rock Show aboard a truck! Well, it hit Shanghumugham Beach, here in TVM on the night of the 1st of May. No, it has nothing to do with the May Day, well maybe it did, coz I saw a commie flag aboard it. But, bah humbug, who cares about the flag when you see some cool rockers, playing heavy covers like Can I Dance with Madness [Maiden].

The band callin themselves "Rage" really set the stage on fire. I mean first of all, you got this amazing setup atop two trucks! Speaker setup was just ok, as the bass was to one side connected to tweeters [gonna bash up the sounders], and to one side was a well set speaker set. I rushed to that side. But, I gotta admit, the mixing wasn't bad at all.

So, here I am parking my two-wheeler wondering why music doesn't come on, when I felt the tingling in my veins, as if I just had a dose of adrenaline! Kicks the familiar bass and the amazing riff that forms the beginning of "Wherever I May Roam" by Metallica, one of the Transmigration regulars! So, what made it so special? Well, for starters, the lead was so clear - hehe played by none other that the guitar maestro of TVM - Desp Satriani's idol, and to a certain degree mine too - Monseuir Nithin. As usual clad in his black on black with his black and white guitar hung near his body.

He doesn't move about in the stage [not that there was too much space], but he was radiating attitude. Effusing bad kid vibes to the crowd. He was a sight to see. Naah not Hammet, but somewhere along the lines ;-)!.

So, there it was the guitarist starting on the riff, when you hear the rhythm kick in. Wow, the sound was truly power packed. It was the effects specialist - Sujith on the rhythm. We are not talking Riddim, but TRUE RHYTHM. Hell, the combination was deadly. With a cap on his head [worn the right way], and with a glowing violet guitar, he was forming the meat on which Nithin rides his amazing fingers to make a clear flowing lead.

Then, came in the hoarse cry, the punch, the glare! You may silence is golden. But, you don't want this guy to be silent. Shaani was awesome with his vocals. Although he aint' a Thash singer, he sure as hell had the attitude. "And the earth becomes my throne..." boomed his voice to perfectly match the building that Rage created.

Rage was awesome. The stage was simply stunning, although they could have taken off the weird flourescent yellow covering :D. What followed Roam, was the heaviest shit the world has seen - Master of Puppets. Although the low voltage caused some wrong tunes outta the box, coz of the idiotic Korg, for the major part it was DITTO. Hell, if the speaker s/m were a grade better, I would have thought I was back in a rock show.

Puppets was followed by Enter Sandman. I think that was one of the best Sandman covers I have seen. They should bloody make it their version. It was that damn good.

So, they decided to end it there, as Nithin was getting violent at the incessant voltage fluctuations. But, the crowd just wouldn't let them. What followed was well..... RAGE IN ITS BEST - Can I play with Madness. The leads and vocals and the drums were holy hell!!!!

I have to mention two players in the stage who didn't make an impact with their presence, but their skills on playing their instruments, made all the difference - Mithun [drummer] and Abu [bassist]. The bass held it all together, even when Nithin lost his cool. Blasting his long hair, trying to head bang, Abu went on to boost the crowd!! Mithun was the only guy who was absolutely quiet, yet quietly pleased with the whole show. They didn't have much to work on - esp with NO monitoring. But, he held his steady rhythm and the cymbal work was truly inspiring, even to a drummer like Anoop! He was amazed at what mithun produced out of the 5 year old battered Yamaha set he was raising hell on, well with two broken sticks.

So, how was the show? Simply stunning! Two reasons - first time I heard Rage perform. They are absolutely without question _the_ band in TVM!! I heard that they are practicing Tornado of Souls [Megadeth] and Bullets [Creed]. I am NOT gonna miss that when the truck hits the next spot. Watch out for the Metal on about 12 wheels ;-)!

Romantic Songs

Sonz always used to complain when me and Gautam start singing in class that we don't have much romance in our soul, and that we don't sing romantic songs enough.

A briefer into what me and Gautam usually sing: Iron Maiden, Metallica [often ends up in a medley, with me playing the song in my mind and waiting for the drums and guitar and Gautam crusading along :D]. So, then one day I remember she asking us as to what do _we_ think is a romantic song? I remember answering "Heaven" by Bryan Adams, but even then, I felt that the song was not what "I" thought was romantic. I just went with the flow! Ever since then, I have been searching for a song that "I" thought was romantic.

Now, I have 3 songs that I think make up one of the most romantic songs, according to me. They are
[] Love Song for No one by John Mayer
[] Split Screen Sadness by John Mayer
[] A Song for you by The Carpenters
in no particular order. I love the lyrics and the feel of all the 3 songs and find that they are the ones that tingle the romantic soul in me [whatever is in there ;)]

Anyway, I guess I am going to start singing to myself and recording and analysing it!

Happy Bday to me....

Woohoo, I am 21 [or not so woohoo, I am 21]. Bah humbug who cares? It's my b'day, and the initial flow of people wishing me was heartwarming to say the least. As I type this in, people are still wishing me. The sudden outburst of windows of Y! Messenger was surprising. :)! Nice to know I have so many good friends. Thanks a ton - all y'all who wished me.. You all get a good treat b4 I leave TVM \:D/, But this month, I AM BROKE ... sorry :D ... Shall post something soon, but yayayayayayay! I am a b'day boy for 24 hours!!

Social and the MOST FUN I had in some time

It was simply awesome. The social and all. But more than that the trip to the beach with the guys.. It was SIMPLY THE MOST FUN I HAVE HAD IN AGES. AGES I MEAN AGES... It was unparallelled fun. So what is this all about, well let me slowly unravel the fun.

Today, we had the class social, a sort of farewell to us classmates of Computer Science of the batch of 2005. We paid [damn those junis who didn't give us a farewell] and had food and some minor fun at Park Rajdhani [near Ulloor]. The menu was simple
[] A welcome drink - a fruit punch [with 6 pegs of Aristocrat vodka that nobody recognized even me]
[] Soup - Sweet Corn Veg Soup [oh those complaints from the non veggies]
[] 2 rice dishes - Pulao [just abt k], and plain rice
[] 2 bread dishes - Nan [could have broken a window] and Kerala Parotta [dunno didn't taste]
[] 2 veg side dishes - Mattar Paneer [good paneer, bad green peas] and Veg Fry [TASTY YUMMY]
[] Butter chicken for the non veggies [oh those poor chickens]
[] Curd Raita
[] Cut cucumbers, tomatoes and onions and carrots
[] Yummy mango pickle
[] Dessert - ok vanilla ice cream and TERRIBLE carrot halwa

The food wasn't BAD. But, it wasn't exactly GREAT, save for that veg crispie things, yummy!

Before we all turned out to eat the whole thing up, we had some fun taking snaps and all! [will post them soon as i can lay my hands on them]. My shaved head really stood out [yeah I shaved my head recently, as I felt like doing that]. People were having fun. Meanwhile we had a plan to continue the fun after the alloted time [4-8pm] by going to Kovalam.

It turned out that Gautam, Sid, Anoop, Remin, Hari, Pattalam, Ayyaps, Sreeram and me were the only people left to continue the fun, and DID we have fun? YEAH - it was the best time I have had in some time - seriously.

Me, Remin and Sreeram had a drink each. I had a 60ml vodka with 7up. Sreeram had some Honeybee or Honeydew or something. Remin ordered a KF beer.

We then proceeded from Park Rajdhani in Anoop's car, and 3 bikes to Shanghumugham. What followed was trying to dip everyone into the ocean. It was soooooo much fun. Hehe, we were running around like kids and trying to get each other down and into the water. In the end everyone was dripping wet. I am WAITING for the snaps to come out. Woohoo.... This was indeed a memorable experience in my life.

It also kinda makes me sad that I am gonna miss these guys sooo much once I move to Bangalore. I am moving on the 6th of July. Damn it, why should I move when I have this good a time. It was awesome... I mean never did I feel sooo happy [yes the vodka may have had some effect Hehe... but yeah more than that the whole this was fanstastic.] Boohoo, damn I am gonna miss this!!!!!

Questions!!

I'm waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime
Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time
Cos at 5 o'clock they take me to the Gallows Pole
The sands of time for me are running low

When the priest comes to read me the last rites
I take a look through the bars at the last sights
Of a world that has gone very wrong for me

Can it be there's some sort of error
Hard to stop the surmounting terror
Is it really the end not some crazy dream

Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming
It's not so easy to stop from screaming
But words escape me when I try to speak
Tears they flow but why am I crying
After all I am not afraid of dying
Don't believe that there is never an end

As the guards march me out to the courtyard
Someone calls from a cell "God be with you"
If there's a God then why has he let me die?

As I walk all my life drifts before me
And though the end is near I'm not sorry
Catch my soul cos it's willing to fly away

Mark my words please believe my soul lives on
Please don't worry now that I have gone
I've gone beyond to see the truth

When you know that your time is close at hand
maybe then you'll begin to understand
Life down there is just a strange illusion.

Well that was the lyrics of the song that I kinda features in one of the absolute favorites. And I am feeling just that. Caught in between waiting to chase my dream of becoming a software professional and sheer boredom. Ambiguity of emotions is on an all time high.

The sheer thrill of waiting to join SISL is keeping me on the edge. Thoughts and ideas racing in my mind. What all should I pack? What kinda guys are gonna work with me? Will I enjoy my work? Should I give another consideration for TCS? Is SISL the way to go? What about my lifetime ambition of starting a venture? Will this be a hindrance for further studies that I have planned? And into more thoughts related to life in general?

Will B'lore be what I am hoping it would be? Will the "big city" phenomenon hit me? [It didn't when I saw New York | Boston | Chicago] The only time something huge and powerful hit me ever was when I saw the Niagra Falls - now thatz sheer POWER. You are taken in a boat somewhere near it, and u feel the water thrashing on to you. You are covered in waterproof overalls and you are just spellbound at the power that a simple waterfall can create. You also marvel at the spectacular shape of the waterfall - the horseshoe... WOW.

What about one of my passions - Gaming? Will I be able to continue to play in SISL? Can I bring my graphics card? What kinda clothing is really permitted in SISL and how much can I stretch the boundary of formal and casual :D? What about the girls in Bangalore? Are they going to be as cool as I hear they are? Will I find "my one" in Bangalore? Will I "choose to love" in Bangalore or "fall in love"? What about the most important thing - food? I don't want it to be costly. Will there be a gym facility near my place that I hope to arrange for? I wanna work out.

The wait is kinda nerve wrecking hehe.. esp with no one to discuss it with. It's absolutely frustrating. I was seeking relief to this by joggin, but I got sick after the beach charade. So, gone is the jogging for another 3-4 days, until I am back, gale and healthy.

I hope Amma and Ro come back soon, esp as the guys - Gautam, Anoop and Sid are going to Bangalore on the 11th I guess. I am wondering what I am planning to do then.... If I manage to stay sane during that time, I guess I can manage to stay sane for the rest of my life :D. I never realised how much of a social animal I have become until this!

I remember during my school times that I was really happy being alone [even now sometimes I need my space and time], but the amount of emotional dependence I realised I am having is again strange, coz I know that I used to live without it. But, yeah I guess I can realise now what people are talking about staying away from home and friends. I never realised it, especially with me wanting to do that so badly till now. But, as the time comes near, I realise more and more that I am gonna miss Amma's anger, pulling Ro's legs, Appa's vent for frustration and eternal complaints, Thatha firing me for being too indifferent and irresponsible, ammamma taking care of me and her crazy charades and all.

Well well well, such is the turn of life - now thats one sentence I never thought I would say. I am gonna miss HOME!!!! I am gonna miss Trivandrum. I am gonna miss the guys - Gautam, Sid and Anoop, the gals - Lax, Sonz! AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I need to vent this frustration and fast. I am off to watch some TV and possibly study something. I still have to finish off with the lab exams on the 7th and 8th! Damn it!

Party Animal traveller - seems rite!!

Your travel type: Party Animal

The Party Animal always wears sunglasses during his vacation. He likes a good hotel, with a swimming pool and room service. A couple of drinks at night, maybe see a show, maybe roll the dice, that's the way to spend the evening.

Culture? A museum? The others can go while the Party Animal stays in bed. You'll find him by the side of the pool when you get back with a martini to get rid of the hangover.

Angels and Demons

Well the highly acclaimed prequel to "Da Vinci Code". It was well, just about ok... I guessed the story, although the details was indeed good =)! A good read, but somehow felt that there was a good amount of "sensationalism" was added to the book by Dan Brown which I didn't detect in "Da Vinci Code". But definitely a good read.

I am sick, terrible cold ::wail. I have my labs on the evenings of 7th and 8th and they mark the end of the 4 year tryst with Engineering. I have my course/general viva on the 7th and the OS Lab on the 8th.

I haven't yet started my preparations, and am too tired to start today. Well wish me luck!

Chennai and back

Once, I cleared my system of the lab exams and the final academic ties with the college, I scrammed to Chennai in hope of some shopping and some quality time with amma, ro and appa b4 I left for Bangalore. It was good - the shopping, although I realised that I am best served with custom tailored dresses ;-)! [Don't mean to sound snobby, but my waist size is 33 and they have 32 and 34 waist sizes, so either I will have to shrink or grow into the 34, for which I chose the former]

Shirt sizes start from 39, and I need a 38. Yeah yeah. Hehe... Well, it was fun. I am now back in good ol' Trivandrum, listening to some songs and getting back into the mood for jogging and swimming and getting into shape.

Well, as luck may have it, swimming is closed until 21st. So, I am now stuck to jogging and minor weight training at home. I _have_ to drop another inch on the waist, and hardening some of those wings ;-)!

Aaaah.. the tryst with working your body keeping in mind those model bods that u wanna have. Weird i know, but hey those are the things that a guy blessed with some horizontal component has to consider!

Facts...

Well, the trysts of life - beautiful and completely capricious. I am amazed at how I have fared through it through the 21 years of my life. It has had everything. Ups, downs, plains, meanders, oasises, what not? It was a mild introspection that led me to the conclusion that I am absolutely, undoubtedly happy with my life.

Contented to live it the way it is? The answer to that is NO. I have never wanted to live my life any particular way, and that is part of the reason why I am so damn happy that I have tried most that life has to give. Well, duh! not everything, but I wanna try as much as possible. Good, bad, heaven, hell, paradise, garbage dump, and everything in between.

Part of how I have been enjoying my life, and gonna be my motto from now on. =)! But yeah there are some strict no nos for me! more on that soon. As of now, really hungry and gotta finish the crappy book called "4:50 from Paddington" by Agatha Christie. Gimme more Poirot and Archer, and Dan Brown :D!!

My Music Sense

In the series of introspections happening these days [naah nothing moody abt it, actually feel supercool], I stumbled upon some of my old playlists. Boy, have I seen everything!!! I have tried most of the flavors that the music industry has had to offer, although well sometimes, I have not paid my dues to it :D

I have lived on
[] Hindi pop [Colonial Cousins, Alisha Chinai, Baba Sehgal (hehe yeah I know)]
[] Hindi film music [the abbreviation days - DDLJ, HAHK, KKKG, blah blah]
[] Carnatic [Kunnukudi Vaidyanathan, Sriniwasan, random keerthanams]
[] Western classical [Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Canon in D#, Pinoit]
[] Instrumental/Orchestral [Yanni, Kenny G]
[] Rock/Rap [Limp Bizkit days...]
[] Rock [Live, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi]
[] Metal [Metallica -- ONLY]
[] Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal days [Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Pantera..]
[] Hard Rock [Metallica, Megadeth...]
[] Progressive Rock, Musical Metal ::wink [Dream Theatre, Iron Maiden..]
[] Rap [Eminem, Linkin Park coz the rap was cool]
[] Country [Shania Twain and blah]
[] Reggae crap [Bob Marley, Shaggy]
I am NOT listing the boy band period [:D] coz I feel I haven't done enough justice by hearing a lot, and also I can't exactly say that I haven't liked too much of their songs. [Was that vague, well it was meant to be hehehe]

So there you go, possibly having a taste for every genre. I love the oldies as well - the Carpenters, ABBA, Beegees [somehow I don't get why people don't like them. They are pretty k actually], The Beatles, Elvis... the list goes on.

Music is essentially ingrained on to me. I _need_ to have my dose of music daily from the comp|me|car|radio something or other. The best part of it being that it is accessible everywhere, save for probably once I go to Bangalore and _don't_ have a portable player, which makes me wonder!! Should i go in for a good mobile with an mp3/memory card facility or should I buy a good mp3 player?

Fortunately I don't have cash for either, which allows me to dream and gauge [in a very partial manner] all the possibilities ;)! Unfortunately I don't have cash for either, which allows me to only dream and gauage all the possiblities.

Other than these mild introspections spending my time reading, well rather devouring books and materials to read. I may have to start prepping myself for an interview, as I passed on my resume to Applied Materials. Let's see if I get an appointment b4 SISL joining date, which is on the 11th of July.

That reminds me, SHIT gotta book my damn tickets for the 6th. Woohoo 2nd AC and it's on Siemens. I am loving "this"!!!

CCCL

CCCL, unfortunately I am unable to attach a link, which I will at the later time. Well what the hell is it you ask? It's one of the success stories of this decade I say. What you ask? I say read on....

This is the company that my uncle and his friend floated about 4 years ago with a capital of Rs. 30 crores. They started out as a construction company and well now they are a force to be reckoned with... Lemme give you some simple figures to refute my stance. They have a yearly turnover of Rs. 400 crore. [:o]. I had the privilege of attending their GBM [General Body Meeting]. They are planning to go IPO in 2007/8.

There were some things that I noticed in the meeting that completely awed me!
[] They are 1100 strong and manage something like 300-400 projects at any instance [Talk about efficiency]
[] Their projects include 60% of repeat orders from clients. and they have another 40% new orders, which implies a 100% growth every YEAR!!!!
[] Their clientele include Infosys [all orders], HCL [all orders], Toyota, TATA Budget Hotels, 7 Star hotel ventures, Coca cola, Kirloskar, Sringeri Mutt
[] Highlights include Asia's LARGEST Dome structure [Food Court Hyderabad - Infy], Asia's GREEN structure [completely made of environment friendly materials] and so on...

This is indeed what I call a success story, and something that I personally would like to ape. Decollapse Inc. [or whatever it's finally called] has to have a success story like this, and a few untapped markets pop into mind
[] Software products - PMTs - Project Management Tools - defi an untapped market
[] Gaming parlors - PC, Console, the works, including old arcade games as well. India somehow was left out in the global scenario - a part of it being the high budget and high prices associated with it. But hey, I am sure if I can put my head on to the business scenario, I can come up with the budget gaming parlors that India defi needs
[] Restaurants - there is NEVER a bad time to open a good restaurant. As they say there are two things that are forever certain - Death and Taxes, but I feel they miss out on the business scenario that a good restaurant provides [or it was intentional, as you see there is usually a business scenario where there is 1. shortage or 2. when people need a change.]

Hmm... did I just make a marketing mantra? More like reiterated the cliche.:D

Anyhoo, I think some of this has to rub on me to encourage me and allow me to finally accomplish what I am meant to do [no I don't beleive in destiny]! Altho I would if Kate Beckinsale comes up to me and says that it was "Serendipity" that brought us together. But, until then I'd rather make my paths clear and trod them like I have never trodden before.

Glimpse of my daily life these days:
[] Read and devour what all fictional material I get, and that includes India's cricket news as well
[] Planning to sorta brush up some of my college education prior to put it to test at Siemens. Hoping that the plan contorts into action soon
[] Wonder and dream about the new apartment that Harsh mentioned when he gave me a call. What he told me has made me dream of a wonderful duplex with 3 HUGE bedrooms, a library, a balcony with a breathtaking view! Not getting into the details, as I can go on and on...

I still have some purchases to make prior to my departure to Bangalore - a pair of brown loafers, a cream shirt, a jet black slacks, and undershirts. I am travelling the breadth of Trivandrum to get the V/Round necked undershirts, but I can't seem to get my hands on some cheap ones - each cost around Rs. 150 MINIMUM!! [Wail]

A story..

I have been reading some blogs lately and I noticed the amount of "writing" present in the web creating an aura that beckons me to involve my creative juices. Never in my life have I written a story before, esp with dialogues although I devour one after the other. Anyway, the more I read these "stories", the more that I felt that the web can always do with some more humor, as most of these stories involve quite a stretch of emotion and sentiments. Humor, altho subtle, kinda completely evaporates off the scene, even if it were intended. So, what I say, over the next few days, let me try and write a story that is well, humorous.

Meanwhile, I read somewhere that only once into life, you notice the details... Well, some details that I have been noticing over the past few days
[] Agatha Christie has had quite a few jibes at the aristocracy of her time. Subtle lines here and there point out to the snobbish and irate quality of the aristocracy once in a while.
[] Only now I realised why always TWO people take notes in a case. Once is used as a witness in the court of law to uphold what the investigator has noted from the person being inquired.

Yeah I know nothing great about them, but hey the fascination of crime, murder, guns, knifes, cars and bikes, and wrestlers never left me. :D. I mean I remember I used to walk around with an ID card that had the blue FBI imprinted on it [of course it was a hand print - didn't have the time or money to get it printed]. Then I used to use one of my ID card pouches - the clear plastic ones and stick my photo in it. I used to make this behind the old visiting cards of my dad/mom.

Well, getting back to the story, since my fascination of murder and mystery is there anyway, why not make it a Thriller comedy - a new genre even. :p!

Enough of Rain

Aarrgghhh... I am done with rains for this season! The wonderful pitter patter sound [which unfortunately comes only when u actually listen FOR it] has lost its charm. Now it's only the mundane evaporation-condensation cycle playing its monotonous, boring efforts. But, I don't know if I am to blame as the weather is kinda gloomy all day long and really gets to me when I wanna go for a jog [k k not a jog, a power walk] in the evening. My swimming session plans washed over coz of some aquatic competition happening in the pool. To irritate me more, the proverbial b***h of a treasurer of Dishaa has made my plans of getting a Transfer Certificate a pain in various parts of the anatomy.

To add to all that, my sister has just become ICE QUEEN, being cold like never before. I hate this, I feel like punching someone. Not that I have ever taken out my frustration like that before, but hey gotta try it sometime :D. Well, Nolle Prosequi as Jeeves says!

That's it I am outta here. I am NOT concentrating on the things that I have to do before I leave. I mean not the things for me, but for Ro and Thatha and all. I have been quite selfish these days! But, I am wondering how can they blame me? I mean, I have to concentrate on these things now for me don't I? Grrr... ICE queen betta change!

I feel like running and running more and well to quote the Matrix, "Free your mind" thing. I want to completely blank whatever is going on and start afresh, like a nestling hatching out of an egg [ok gross picture, take the metaphorical meaning]. I want to break free [not the song by Queen, again a gross, yet funny picture].

Well, feeling a lot better after a mild letting out of frustration. Now gonna play some pool, and then some GTA. God, thank you for computer games [Thanks also to Rockstar games for not having Starforce encryption for the San Andreas PC]

Hey Now...

Well, the monstrosity of life bares its ugly teeth and shows me well the most monstrous face that I have seen ever. I hate being a cynic, and attribute a lot of it to how I lead my life now. No one in my family is like that! I mean, they are generally cynics, they can't take life to be FUN and cannot frolic and all. They aren't that BAD as the previous line might make you interpret, but well, they aren't the hep hip Life's all Bubbly fun either. I knew this completely! I was like that - I used to think that relatives, blood connections and blah was just that - blah. You will have to live life obeying the rules of responsibility and obligations. I used to beleive in these -
[] You gotta obey your parents, as they are raising you
[] You owe people who have done something for you
and so on... I wasn't what I would call well "close" to either my mom, dad, or my grandparents and well even my sister.

But, I realised that such a selfish life wasn't that I enjoyed. I used to see people who actually LIVED their life enjoying what they do for people when they did it. It was well revealing, an eye opener for all its splendor. I gave it a shot, and well it might sound corny, but hell it really was satisfying. I started doing things for helping out the person who had asked me to? I am not saying that I am completely changed, no, it will take some time. But, I am definitely going to give it a good shot. I am NOT selfish and I DON'T want to be. I realised that pretty late I guess. I remember having a discussion with Vivek and Vishnu about this selfishness aspect of it. I remember strongly supporting Vishnu and his view of a statement - "Selfishness is a virtue". Although I don't hold the same views that Vivek took on that day about selflessness, I don't now completely support Vishnu's views either.

Another thing is what Dad told me today. I can't help but thinking about it and I am still unsure as to exactly where I stand on that statement. He said, "Finally, it boils down to nothing - blood relations, family, etc. But, there is a shell in our life that we have to wear, and like it or not, people judge you by that shell."

Well, I do agree on some of the facts presented there - especially about the shell. Not that I don't have distressing questions there as well. But, I agree on the outside look that people have of you. They only converse with that shell. Well, if it's so, then these are the questions that I have -
[] If you do have a shell, can't you change that shell with different people? Is it RIGHT to do so? What abt the ethos that you have to be the same person to all the people? Is THAT true and right?
[] How much ingrained and related and integrated is this shell to your inner self? Hehe, i know it sounds like the Unix OS talking about shell and the kernel [inner self] but it really irritates me not to have a corroborative answer to that? Well, I guess I gotta live it to make it part of life now don't I?

Coming to the first aspect of the sentence, I completely, undoubtedly, transparently DENY it. I have proof. As I said, I used to be aloof from Appa and Amma! I mean I used to sometimes detest them. But, then I and Amma had a talk about it and since then I have been completely transparent about my life with Amma, and well it has radically changed my life. Shez my partner in crime for whatever I do, and that support - moral, mental and what not? I have to admit, life has indeed been a LOT better since then.

Trouble at home is something I am NOT unaware of. Ask my pals, they would completely agree. I probably led the most complicated life during that time. I mean I had different shells for pals, amma, appa, thatha, ammamma, ro! It was definitely one of the more hard times of my life, now that i think about it. I mean, every action that I did had to calculated through all the "shells" and approved by that and then only done. Seriously, I don't ever wanna do that again. I guess that answers one of my own questions? Is it ok to have more than one shell? Well, honestly even though I am confused, I guess it's ok, provided they aren't as different as the ones that I used to have. They shouldn't contradict and their morals shouldn't be contradicting is what I feel.

But, hell the easiest way is to be you. Should you, must you care for relations? Well, tougher to answer, but honestly, I think - YES!! It can be really tough especially when the other side is more cynical and not so reciprocative, but it's well worth a GOOD try. And, well I am damned if I don't seriously give it a good shot. =)! I think that was probably the most sentimental rambling ever! Bad boy bad.. I guess I will drop in some humor now.

This is the story that I started on abt 3 blogs back and I did. Well, as luck may have it, my cousin dropped in that day and literally hacked my creativity spurt into pulling his leg :D. I managed to forget as to where I was going with the damned story. So, in order no to do that, what I thought was I will make a sort of versioning and well time by time story blogging thing. I am working on the code behind it and it should hopefully come out before I go to SISL, else well you will have to wait, until I get some time there and finish the coding there. Anyhoo, here's what I crapped till now

It was one of those rainy days. Those rainy days as they come on in the monsoon season of the place where monsoon seasons have one of those rainy days. White Asem West was under this influence, when the gentleman of our story enters into the hall, panting, as if he had just made a dash for the one of those Olympic marathons that we so often see now in TV. As we notice him more clearly, we also notice that he had something on his mind, something that put him on low ebb. It was as if he had a particular distaste that he wanted out of his tongue. Something, like what we feel after having seen “Matrix Revolutions” after about 4 months of white hope anticipation.

Mr. Littlelongfellow Shortpants – the head of the ninth generation of the Shortpants clan came in and held steadfast as his gaze seemed to straighten out and his tunnel vision cleared. He echoed, “I say that was a swell of a ride”. I have got to get me one of those. He was looking at a red gleaming Maruti Swift, the new car on the block whose pictures were sprinkled about in the very many papers that he saw about him. The Euro Indian design had left quite a good impression on the gentleman, especially as the car’s “curves” reminded him of the movie – The Italian Auto and more importantly the part that the car played in the hands of the heroine – Charlize Therone.

Mr. Shortpants was the head of the Shortpants Counter Strike clan. The clan had earned its reputation albeit a reputationless history. It was one of those clans that just seemed to win, not with so much gusto or chaos as often seen by the clans who win today. They were quite the quiet lot. Not much indulgence into the practices they considered nefarious associated with the winning of a “virtual shooting” competition. They were what we call gentlemen among the commoners in the world of gaming. They come; shoot, score and then they walk off with the quiet dignity accompanying gentlemen after collecting the award. They had no hoots, or calls or whatsoever. Even their avatars in this massively popular online gaming had the aura of a man of proper manners. Mr. Shortpants, as we refer to him was indeed referred by the community as just that Shortpants. You would have to excuse the commoners for not referring him with the mister prefix, as they considered the little prefix a superfix.

Mr. Shortpants wasn’t essentially from a rich family. He got indulged into the gaming world in his early days of online gaming, when he was doing his studies of Computer Science and Engineering, at an abstruse college in a land, where online gaming was probably the only source of entertainment and enlightenment for a young man of his age. So, it wasn’t surprising that Mr. Shortpants shortly began to master the nuances of the game – Counter Strike Source, which seemed to be the rage amongst the netizens at the time.

It wasn’t hard for Mr. Shortpants to get good at the game, for it involved shooting and moving about. No, it wasn’t something that Mr. Shortpants was used to in his daily appointments. But, he had always had a secret desire to be a man of the land, an adventurer if need be. With his days spent by the fire in a cave, or a ready pump action, self pressurizing, air conditioned, built in humidifier, with a machine gun turret, bear trapped tent, in his sophisticated world. Grabbing a potato by its roots from the attached potato sack, cleaning it by the side of the river, as the Saint Gobain glass like water clears up the dirt on the potato and the likes, was right up his dream street.

Drop in your views on my writing, if it's good [hehe]!!

A Dream...

I was asleep dreaming of some competition that I was taking part in and in that I had created a character of a tribal chieftain. I liked the description that I gave of the character in that and thought I would log it and remember it for a later time.

Tribal chief Googoodoll basher
Mr. Googoodoll basher is a trained vegetarian cannibal cheiftain. He dislikes human meat but likes human products. He is a man who likes poopoo with his peepee, but not peepee with his poopoo. He's trained in 7 different martial arts of the humans and 18 styles of the monkeys. A specialist in mating calls, he has earned his doctorate in the mating calls of cockroaches. Looking through his career heights, starting a simple life, he has reached to be the cheiftain of the Wukuuka [Woo koo kaa] tribe, through a maze of many different tribes whos e names and pronounciations are further confusing.

His hobbies include skate boarding, birdwatching [giving a whole new meaning to it now that he knows mating calls], testing new human products, cleaning the river, helping out his mom to clean up the humans before they are put into the kettle, helping his dad work on the poison tipped arrows, working out by the mountains, hiking by foot, swimming by hands, killing by head. He wants to continue his foray into the unknown human world and introduce new ways of peaceful life. His ambition is to collect the Nobel prize for peace

Well, there was more and I got an applause in the end, but this is all I remember of it. DAMN!! :D Anyhoo, me going back to sleep. Came out of the slumber only to log this and now done, ADIOS!

Signing off Trivandrum...

At the very least for a temporary basis, I am signing off from Trivandrum, my sanctum sanctorum for 20 years of the 21 years of my life. The place that I was brought to after being born in N. Parur [near Ernakulam]! I will definitely miss this place. I have had a taste of big cities, and well honestly, other than the hang out joints, the cool places, the stuff you get and the well places you get to see, I generally am NOT a person who likes cities adorned with people. I don't like crowds, and I hate having to share my space with tons of people. I would love to have the road to myself and probably enough cars to maintain a good speed and have safety. I would rather have the music world to myself and the helpers over there. I would rather have the restaurant just about filled with people to make the place look filled and not crammed. Although Trivandrum has many flaws of its own and has well the record time for digging up newly constructed roads, it did have the nice feeling of laid back place, where you can indeed live your life, rather than spending it [all pun intended]!

I like to know the shopkeepers around me, saying hi and bye on a regular basis, who are ready to help you in whatever way they can. I like to know the roads and have a vehicle. I like to come back to a place of my own and have my space to do anything that I want. I am going to really really really miss that particular aspect of my life. I am going to have to share my space with about 5-7 other people who I will have to START to get to know [not that i am bad at it], but until you really know them, you will feel that they are well - a STRANGER, and how much trust you can place with them? I am going to have to learn to manage my life. Finance, dresses, shelter, transportation etc. Accept responsibility for the work you do, try and enjoy, start on the "continuous learning process" and well chart out a career path and start a thread to keep a check and report to you every once in a while the status of where you are and is there any need to upgrade/degrade the path?

I already miss some of my pals, and now I am gonna have to start my life over with some new pals. I thank GOD that I am good at meeting people and making friends, else I would really have suffered. I have a tendency to become a loner, as that is there in my blood. I was a loner for only 2 years of my life - THANK GOD [11th and 12th], and I have totally grown over that! :)! [YAY], and I seriously hope, I will not fall into THAT RUT.

I hope to enjoy my life and feel that I am in complete control over it and am not moving about it, as if I am going in the flow. I wanna make sure that I am SWIMMING the direction and am in total complete sobreity over the decisions. Hehe, I know I am going on and on about boring stuff, but I feel that I have reached a point in which I think I really really need to hold th reins and lead it the way I want it to go.

But, hell I am gonna miss the people who have been SO much a part of my life and I have taken them so much for granted that I suddenly feel the pangs of guilt, feelings of love, affection and responsibility towards them. I am going to miss them terribly. Thatha, Ammamma, Amma, Ro, my pals - Lax, Gau, Sonz, Anoop. I already miss that ass Sid. I am indeed going to miss them all.

But, life has to move on, and I guess things are taking a turn for the good only. I was apprehensive about my work 2 days ago until I actually thought about Harsh and how much he has MADE his work enjoyable. I am sure I can definitely enjoy what I do. I mean for crying out loud, I actually enjoyed my course. I am sure that I can enjoy whatever I do, so there my fears were eased.

Hell, I have gotta say this! I am going to absolutely, undoubtedly miss Trivandrum, Amma, Thatha, Ammamma, Ro, Appa! I will terribly miss Lax, Gau, Sonz, Anoop and you too Sid!! I am going to miss the routine to college:
Get up, brush my teeth, shit[v], take a bath, dress, drive the kinetic to college, say yo to all the people i meet en route to class, hi to the teachers, pass my exuberance to the people around me, get my legs pulled, pull some legs, cut class, go to A-one, go out for food/matinees, series time sudden preparation, exam time meet ups with sid and remin, the hang out at P'code, the telephone conversations, the online discussions, hearing class gossip years after it happens, get back home and lie to Thatha that I had gone for project work!! I think this is probably one of the most emotional points in my life. I have had only one b4 this and that was when I left US to come back to India. But, this beats the hell out of it. Never knew how much I was delved into my own surroundings and totally oblivious to it!! =)! I am going to surely miss you TVM!! C ya soon!!!

Hi from Bangalore

As I am in a net cafe, and the computer sucks, I am just copying a mail that i wrote. Well, shall write in detail soon, when i get a better computer. God this keyboard and the mouse and the whole damn thing SUCKS!!!!!

Hey there!

I have reached Bangalore and what a wonderful place this is. Altho it's slightly costly, the place reeks of beautiful parks, greenery all around [all pun intended]. Am rite now staying at a guest house in Koramangala about 15 minutes walking distance from The Forum.

The guest house is beautiful with 3 tiers within the same house, rooms, hall and the dining hall. Behind the house, there is this humongous lawn. The only thig that sucks is that I gotta take leave of this place so soon.

On the lookout for a place to reside in here. The rents are generally off the roof, and hoping that I will manage to get a good place at a decent enough rent.

The best part of the whole thing is the free messagin, [local] 100 free smss a day @ just Re 1 rental per day. Amazing rite. this offer is there throughout Bangalore in most of the GSM moiles. And to think that I was appreensive about my mobile bills. :D

Mite go for a BSNL postpaid, not yet decded oR applied.

The computer that I am typing from SUCKS. It behaves like my mobile. I ave to actually wait for about 4 secnds, before the TEXT that I typed gets updated on to the screen. God, I miss my computer. Joining Siemens on the 11th. Apparently it's a week of the facilites being introduced t you and all. so should be pretty interesting. ;)!

well, Enjoy. C ya soon. Shall mail soon.

And I ramble again

Yo yo yo! Feels good to finally type in something. Am at the Siemens library and am finally checking my mail after about a week or more. The weirdest thing about Siemens net access - blocked by Websense [what?]. My site cannot be accessed unless I use a 60 minute quota time where in it opens sessions of 10 minutes so that I can type. It's blocked essentially for the reason that i can't access Webhosting sites as I may be able to copy data on to the web - and SISL has a lotta data to be protected. Well, they are essentially PARANOID about security. :)!

But, cool things are here to come. I have joined a project names - Nuclear Medicine. It involves 3d image processing and hence can actually be quite interesting and will ensure that I get a good solid powerful PC on my desk. Woohoo. I mite even get 2 pcs as I may be required to code and test. Hehehe.

Office is simply superb. Whenever I get bored, i just go all the way to the recreation room and enjoy some TT [which btw I am becoming better at]. Throw in the library which has a decent collection of books, unlimited coffee, tolerable, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there you have how to recreate in SISL. Construction is going on for the new tower, which would double the space in SISL, and would ensure that we are able to get a specific cubicle and won't have to change around much.

Well, that's all for now! I guess, shall spend more time with my site, which I plan to now go to a professional host, with my domain name soon!!!!! Woohoo, SISL ROCKS!!!

Somehow, something happened....

I am wondering how I am able to blog right now, as my site was blocked by Websense. But, my ardent efforts of incessant trials have finally allowed me to be back to my webland - the land I CREATED!!! :)! Although the creation is on a free piece of webspace. I always wonder, what if cyberspace had the "zamindari" system, what would have happened to the world.

It is weird especially since people have actually started buying land in moon [:o Yeah, can ya beleive it? the MOON].!!

Few things - lifez good, not completely hectic, technically sound, and is quite a fulfilling learning experience. I have realised that I am to learn quite a bit, before I become comfy in my new line of work [which I won't reveal here as it mite be against the company policy - thanks guys ;)]. I love working tho.

I am thinking about making another content management system for Ramblings and port it to a good webspace provider and also buy my domain. Should come to about 1000 bucks a year, and I think now i can afford it. I guess I will start work on that soon. :)!

This weekend planning to make a trip to Chennai, but will depend on Thursday if I get assigned some work! If I do, then gonna be here as I gotta learn some more stuff anyway.

Anyhoo, miss reading and writing blogs, with the content being blocked like this :)! But, shall keep trying and forward this valiant effort. Btw, my site was selected for the Tripod Kitsch selection. So, people who have time, please search for the Tripod Kitsch in Google and vote fa "Ramblings of an Eccentric Soul"! I am sure that with ur votes, I can gain a good entry into the top 50 :)! Anyhoo, in office now, so gotta go :)! Seee ya \:D/

Site on Kitsch

Hey WHOA!!!

This is COOOL!!! I just realised that my site has been featured in the Kitsch section!! AMAZING I am really excited. This means that the endeavor that I took has indeed paid off! Really excited. :)! Now, gonna continue with this charade. This alone is enough!

Uhum Uhum!! Now, let me start on my thank you speech as all the oscar winners say :D

This award is for the efforts that I spent about 4 days in creating the Content Management System [Blogger v1.0] that I had christened it :D. Thanks to PHP4.0 version for coming up with an interesting and simple yet powerful enough language that made me study it and love it enough to make "Ramblings of an Eccentric Soul" on it :)!

Thanks to MySQL and Lycos.co.uk for providing a free webspace for my MySQL database and PHP CGI support to allow server side scripting, without which the power and flexibility of my code would never have been realised :)!

Thanks to my dad and mum for getting me my lovely computer on which I coded it [Specs: Athlon XP 1800+, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Samsung SyncMaster 753S CRT monitor, nVidia GeForce Fx5600 graphics card, Creative Soundblaster Live Value! 4.1 sound card, Mercury 2.1 speakers for my front, Aiwa Home Theatre System with 5 speakers for my rear stereo, Asianet data line [256 kbps, 1GB cap], for providing me with the bandwidth]

Thanks to all my critics and readers who have been actively supporting me to write more and better and even vigorously after some inspirational articles that I read off their sites. I have made a list of all my favs, in no particular order in "Link ups".
And last but not the least to LIFE, which has motivated me to write more and more and more and well still more

On this day, I am taking an oath that I will continue writing [bugging] people and be at it. Someday, I shall even release my book, MUAHAHAHHA. K! enough gloating and goading and self praise. But, I am damn proud of the whole thing :)! I mean, WOOHOO!!!
With that, lemme sign off fa now, but not without a simple request!!
-> PLEASE VOTE for "Ramblings of an Eccentric Soul" at Kitsch, I have provided the link here and in my rite bottom bar! Thanks for all the support and well, I will keep maintaining it :)!

Quotable Quotes

Quotes are something we all tend to use! Why? For one, how about this, I find that something creative, especially a humorous quote/meaningful/touching statement, MUST be repeated [A harsh word against "Golden words are said once, BS]. Beauty needs to be appreciated, yeah I have already written about it.

So, well here are some of my favorite ones - they are NOT categorized as depending on the context, I use one or more of them, and well some including in my signatures :)! I DO NOT remember most of the original authors. The ones who came up with these, well, my salutations to you. I have modified more than one of them to my liking, but still you get the credits - dudes and dudettes.

- "There's no point to any of this. It's all just a... a random lottery of meaningless tragedy and a series of near escapes. So I take pleasure in the details. You know... children laughing, those are good, the sky about ten minutes before it starts to rain, the moment where your laughter becomes a cackle... and I sit back and I smoke my King's filter and I ride my own melt." - Adapted after editing from "Reality Bites"

- "True. When your hammer is C++, everything begins to look like a thumb." - Steve Haflich, in comp.lang.c++

- "If I think not, am I not? I think not, don't you think?" - Moi

- "To do what to do is to do that to do to do" - Moi

- "Getting enough sleep helps you do your best in whatever you do" - Garfield

- "99% of all computer problems are solved by restarting, the remaining 1% by switching if off" - Dunno

One of the best wallpapers I have had in some time :)! Thought I'd share it :D

Crazy

I couldn't sleep tonight, for no apparent reason and woke up at 12:30, after going to sleep at 12. Then I tossed and turned in bed until about 2:30am and then thought that I had to expend my energy into something and well this is what turned out! :D! Hope ya enjoy it! I know there are lots of jagged edges, which may/not be corrected in the future :)!

Read on...

His mind opened to a hazy, yet clear image that clawed him during sleep. He awoke, eyes yet unopened to a realm he rarely explored prior to now. A half drugged trance where specters were real, his senses heightened, where looks of the almost palpable people were prickling. So real was it.

He knew it was the wee hours of morning. However, he never bothered to check the time fearing that he may have to indeed wake up to that harsh reality of time and well, just wake up.

His mind’s eye was now fully awake, the hazy images slowly reaching solid clarity. He was struck by how real it felt, and at times he realized, it was more surreal. He never viewed himself from a 3rd person’s perspective during any of his few encounters, and this time was no exception. A first person view of the surreal world was thrown open to him.

Slowly, it began to sink in. She was there and he was trying to get across something to her. An unreal as he knew it was, he wished it were real. He wanted to hold on to this thought so badly that he started waking up. He realized, to his horror that her image was fast fading.

He struggled to keep it focused, waging a war he knew he would lose later into the morning, but striving hard to win this battle. He did not want to wake up. In a few seconds, he knew he had won this battle. The image fought between sleep and dreams was crisp again.

He was once again asking to his mind millions of unanswered questions that he had asked once earlier. Will she? Should I? Will she not? Why should she? Why would she? How? When? A further stream of permutations of an exponential scale exploded and pervaded into various threads of thoughts.

He found himself to be at a total loss to any of these questions – again. But, he was now mesmerized by the crystal clear image now almost etched into the parts of his mind. He was finally asking her. Asking her it she’ll indeed give him the chance he’s been wanting ever since he set his eyes on her. Ever since he noticed that she was the only thing that made him catch his breath. The only person whose mere presence made him stutter and shake inside, whose whiff transcended him to a state of exultation and well made him weak and clumsy, his insides churn as if everything he ever ate was there turning round and round. Him – the epitome of jubilation and joy turned into a lost soul with wanderlust.

Yes, he was finally her that. Yes, his hopes were finally yielding. She was ethereal to him now, her appearance seemed a bit pale now. He wondered if he was shocking her, surprising her or bringing elation?

But, wait, no it cannot be. No, not now, not now… This cannot be the time that he had to check the time. He wanted that moment to elongate, or the very least persist in his heightened state of drugged ness. No, he cannot wake up now.

What my Birthdate means

Your Birthdate: May 22
You tend to be understated and under appreciated.
You have a hidden force to do amazing things, doing them your own way.
People may see you as strange and shy, but they know little.
Your unconventional ways have more power than they (and even you) know.

Your strength: Standing up for what you know is true

Your weakness: You tend to be picky and rigid

Your power color: Silver

Your power symbol: Square

Your power month: April
What Does Your Birth Date Mean?

Well, that is what my birthdate means!! And here are my comments on them!!

1. You tend to be understated and under appreciated: Hmmm... Really? I don't completely concur with it! I am usually pretty much appreciated for whatever I do.
2. You have a hidden force to do amazing things, doing them your own way: Well, kinda true. Sometimes, I myself am amazed at how well I can perform. It happens automatically. Rarely do I try to do them - Rarely did I try hard at academics, rarely did I try hard to sing well, rarely did I try hard to play TT. :D! Well, the third case is showing, as today I had one of the bad form days! But I guess I will attribute that to the waking up @ 3am and waiting till 11:45 am @ Chinnaswamy stadium to grab the tickets of India vs. South Africa this Saturday - Nov the 19th!! yippeeee... :)!
3. People may see you as strange and shy, but they know little: Maybe, I have heard that sometimes people think that i am weird! It mite qualify as strange hehe! But shy? NO WAY! I think I am quite the overt and the gregarious guy!
4. Your unconventional ways have more power than they (and even you) know: Already talked abt it!!
5. Your strength: Standing up for what you know is true: Yupppie! Thatz true alrite. Sometimes I even fight and lose my cool to prove the point, which is not necessarily a good thing. However, after coming to Bangalore, I have NOT lost my cool AT ALL [Kudos to me]! After the "Sindhoor" incident, I guess I have NOT lost my cool at all!
6. Your weakness: You tend to be picky and rigid: Agreed completely:D!
7. Your power color: Silver: NO COMMENTS except yea I love silver!!
8. Your power symbol: Square - Hmmm, I do draw a lotta squares... but wonder what that means... any shrink out there?
9. Your power month: April - Ze fools month? Well, gotta retrospect a bit more deeply to comment more on this!!

Life is kinda cool otherwise. Work is going gr8! Friends are doing gr8!

NOTE TO SELF: Write a few lines on all my bumchums! I have nothing much to do at home anyway. Mite as well spend it on some creative writing :)! ;)! Hehehe!

Decked in neutrality for almost a billion years now, the Swiss are always the favourites to survive any nuclear conflict. Not only do they have the most amazing dress sense, but they've also got keen technical knowhow, a very logical cultural heritage and seventeen extra feet which they keep in their heads.
The Swiss are stereotypically associated with cuckoo clocks, chocolate, fondue and yodelling; it should be pointed out that they also enjoy running through the hills, goat farming and keeping the Earth safe from alien scum.

Comments: You, my friend, are thick as pigshit.
Don't let it bother you. Some people have become extremely successful, while remaining the intellectual inferior of a lobotomised schnauzer (see it yap backwards!). Politicians, Hollywood movie stars, truckers and obese men driving white vans have all "made it" with your gargantuan stupidity. So don't fret: there is hope.
We advise you grow a giant moustache and go live in the country with your four dogs. There you will be allowed to shoot tin cans and shout "hooooeeeee" at nothing in peace.

Collosal Death Robot test
Robocop!
Which Colossal Death Robot Are You?
Brought to you by Rum and Monkey
Comments: Holy Prime Directive, you're Robocop!
Well, you're neither colossal, nor technically a robot, but your arthritic lurching and dubious morals have found their way into the hearts of futuristic rebels and children everywhere. You walk through fire, catch bullets from the air, and you never, ever smile. Combine this with an abstract, almost random concept of duty and honour, and you have a police officer one cannot fail to adore.
Thank you, Robocop.

Which Evil criminal am I?
I am Charles Manson.
Which Evil Criminal are You?
A Rum and Monkey crime.
Comments: Congratulations, you're Charles Manson!
Mad as a hatter and friend of Beach Boy Dennis Wilson, you believe that the Beatles song Helter Skelter is indicative of a coming race war, where the "blackies" will win. You also consider yourself a talented folksinger.
You have amassed a group of female followers known as The Family, who perform killings for you and look upon you as if you were Jesus Christ. You have sex with each and every one of them, and encourage them to have sex with each other, but they're most famous for killing pregnant actress Sharon Tate.
Some more tests were up and running, but I don't have the time now to put the results into the blog. Probably shall do that later.

I wanted to mention a major writing change from now on, I want to try and write some cynical stuff, just to check it out. I have been quite ze happy happy guy, so rarely have I tried any cynical writing! If you are wondering what the hell inspired me to write it, well, it's simple - Scott Adams and "The Way of the Weasel". I was simply floored by the writing of his. I really loved it! So, gonna try some cynical, humorous writing from my next blog onwards!!
