Southwood makes ceramic platters, vessels. panels and large cylinderical
sculptures inspired by the patterns left by agricultural activities
on the landscape. |
The
pieces are made by throwing baseless cylinders which are then flattened,
textured, torn and then rejoined. Glazes and finishes are used sparingly
and often over loaded to create textured finishes. Pat says of the
agricutural patterns made by machinery working on the landscape,
'It is the visual impact of the beauty created without artifice
that challenges me to translate this excitment into clay.'
