What Events You Can See Me At
Here are the events and shows
which I will be attending this year - 2000.
I shall be using my home made mobile forge. There will be some sample tools for you to play with, and maybe even some ready to buy, plus a few candlsticks and so on. Come and say hello, I hope to see you this summer!
13 August Rural Craft Day at Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre, Muddy Lane, Lower Wat, Thatcham, Berkshire. Organiser Angela Tel: 01635 874381. A small event, but with some good local craftspeople; and unusual things too, last year they did “have-a-go butter making” as well as horse drawn dray rides and a flying, working Falcon.
30 July Surrey Heath Borough Council’s Millenium Celebration, held at Frimley Park Lodge Park, Frimley Green, Surrey. Organiser Sharon Cross Tel: 01276 707285. A one-off show which will include historical reenactors from many different periods, as well as local artists and craftspeople. I shall be just outside the crafts marquee with my mobile forge.
8 & 9 July Tewkesbury Medieval Fayre, The Gupshill Fields, Gloucester Road, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. Organiser Jane Baalam Tel: 01684 297607. Surely the largest Medieval battle and market in the Country. Battles both days, and massive market. The market traders organise themselves roughly into different places according to what sort of stuff they sell. Hard-core ultra authentic kit, sold from period tents by costumed merchants at one end; burger vans and cheap hippy frocks at the other. You’ll find me with the first lot, just selling not forging. The best atmosphere.
6 & 7 May The Association of Pole lathe Turners annual weekend, (members only on Saturday, open to the public on Sunday) The Heart of the National Forest Visitors Centre, Derbyshire. An absolute must for greenwood enthusiasts, many demonstrations of all kinds of greenwood crafts, not just pole lathe turning, which run end to end all day (I shall be showing how Iron Age craftsmen fixed the handles on their tools). Also the world famous “log to leg race” - see the sweat and shavings fly as the best turners in the country race to make a pair of perfectly matched chair legs, starting with a log, and using only hand tools. If you want to see a large selection of the very best handmade chairs, take a look at the competition entries - breathtaking!
