Marketing Manager. Podia group plc (Formally e-comsport group plc)
Podia is a content and technical solutions company for the sports industry. As well as being accountable for the groups central marketing activities (comprising web site, literature, exhibition and PR activities) I was responsible for marketing the product portfolio that comprised; (1) e-comscout a global database of over 13,000 professional footballers. (2) sports-academy a football management system. (3) fantasy-manager.com A football fantasy game that resides on the clubs official web site.
I had been involved in various partnership programmes that include BSkyB, Gateway Computers, ESPN Soccernet, Football365, Sportal and NTL (Premium TV and Premium TV Ventures).

Virtual Internet provides domain-based, hosting, e-commerce and ASP business solutions to SMEs. Net Searchers is a division of Virtual Internet that provides trademark and brand monitoring and protection on the web. Its corporate clients include over 50 of the FTSE 100 companies. At Virtual Internet I was responsible for developing and building the company's key brands worldwide for both Virtual Internet and Net Searchers.
I recruited and managed the marketing department in the UK (6 staff), and co-ordinated marketing activities with the staff at the offices in New York, Sydney, Milan and Paris. This involved recruiting and managing the creative; on-line promotional; events; media and PR agencies involved in these processes. I managed the reworking of Virtual Internets branding in readiness for a move from AIM, to a full listing of the London Stock Exchange, and supported the board in this process. I successfully launched Cyberbe@t in London and Paris a series of internet branding and protection seminars for trademark professionals. I was responsible for the marketing of Nomodo - an on-line domain name registration and web hosting service. I launched both GyroWAP a WAP site builder, and SnapSell a shopping cart solution.
I had achieved coverage for Virtual Internet and Net Searchers on BBC, ITV, Bloomberg, Sky and national press, as well as extensive coverage in the internet trade press.

Marketing Director. NetNames
NetNames, with offices in New York, London, Sydney and Copenhagen, was founded in 1995 with the goal of providing immediate, reliable, and responsive services for companies and individuals who need to register domain names anywhere in the world. NetNames was formerly part of Webmedia the UKs first on-line creative agency.
At NetNames I was responsible for the entire marketing function in the UK, and I provided marketing assistance to the offices in New York, Sydney, and Copenhagen. This included managing the external PR, creative and direct marketing agencies. I was central to creating on-line partnerships with MSN, Breathe, LineOne, Loot.com, and Sage. I also launched n3, a unique magazine that provides news and information to branding and trade mark professionals. Whilst n3 was conceived as a company promotional vehicle, it soon carried its own advertising, and was fast achieving independent status as a specialist magazine in the field of on-line branding.

Pre-Internet Experience |
April 94 May 97 Marketing Manager. FontWorks UK. FontWorks is a leading reseller of graphic design software, and part of the FontShop International network based in Berlin. Working closely alongside vendors that included Adobe, Linotype-Hell, Monotype and Letraset, my remit was to manage the entire marketing communications functions including direct mail, advertising, media buying, and literature production. During my time at FontWorks I Launched FUSE 94 - at that time the largest graphic design event in Europe. I consulted on FUSE 95, which took place in Berlin. I also instigated UK's largest anti-piracy campaign with the massed distribution of the Guide to legal Typeface Use, and the follow up publication, the Guide to Typeface Licensing, in conjunction with FAST, BSA and leading professional print and publishing bodies. Feb 93 April 94 Account Manager. Joslin Shaw. Joslin Shaw is a high tech Advertising and PR company with clients that included Kingston Memory, Datrontech, Memory Direct, Eathan Adams. My role as an account manager was to win the business and then service the account. This included media buying, design, direct mail and corporate identity work. Jan 92 - Feb 93 Business Development Manager. First Service Marketing. First Service Marketing are a marketing services agency based in South West London that provided marketing communications services to professional bodies. Clients included The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Chartered Institute of Bankers. My responsibilities included winning the account and supervising the handover to the account handlers. I was also given the role of media buying for the CIMA account. Sept 88 - Jan 92 Advertising Manager. Reed Business Publishing. Advertising Manager of the Academic Division within Newpoint Publishing, a division of Reed Business Publishing. The portfolio of titles under my management included Which Degree, Which Degree in Britain, The Directory of Opportunities for Graduates, and the Guide to Postgraduate Study in Britain and Graduate Opportunities (GO). Moved to the Graduate Division to manage the advertising department and re-launch Graduate Post, the fortnightly recruitment newspaper. Responsibilities included the recruitment, training and development of the sales team in order to reach the financial targets. |
