The Wood-Wedgwood Connection

I have discovered that the brother (Ralph) of my 6x great grandfather (Moses Wood) was quite a famous potter, he was known as 'The Miller of Burslem' and is credited with having invented the Toby jug. This was the start of the Wood & Sons company which is still in existence today. For further information see Steve Birk's famous potters page.

The illustration below further describes the genealogical link:

Ralph Wood married Mary Wedgwood who was the 3rd cousin of Josiah Wedgwood (their common ancestor being Gilbert Wedgwood). Much has been written about Josiah Wedgwood, the founder of Wedgwood pottery, and his famous descendants (including Charles Darwin, Elizabeth Gaskell, Ralph Vaughan-Williams and others). As a starting point check out John Wedgwood Pound's Wedgwood Family Worldwide pages
