Looking after patients down the ages

• 1763 - Chester Infirmary -  No Smoking Policy introduced.
• 1828 - Chester Infirmary -  feeding one patient for a week = 4/8d.
• 1830 - Chester Infirmary - new central heating.
• 1842 - Chester Infirmary - Anaesthetics used for first time.
• 1867 - Chester Infirmary - Matron  spends 10/- buying spelling books and copy books for patients.
• 1920 - Chester Royal Infirmary - the first Lady Almoner was appointed -  like the present day Patient Access and Liason Service (PALS)
• 1944 - Chester Royal Infirmary - Penicillin used for the first time.
• 1947 - Chester Royal Infirmary -  New Appointments System  for Infirmary Outpatient’s.  -  number of patients say it is a “great  improvement’.
• 1947 - Chester Royal Infirmary - Workman’s Life saved By Iron Lung.
• 1950s  - Chester Royal Infirmary - bed side portable telephone.
