-Wednesday, over 30 degees Celsius and no classes in the afternoon. Hans had been talking a loong time about a walk to Esslingen and with nothing else important to do I myself saw it as a great way to burn some fat. So at two in the afternoon we set off from my place, in a fast pace we soon were out of Schlossgarten and proceeded past the ongoing Frühlingsfest towards Gottlieb Daimler Stadion and then Untertürkheim (where DaimlerChrystler is situated) along river Neckar. At Untertürkheim we left the river and started climbing the hills which surround and part the differernt parts of Stuttgart. It was the fourth out of six days with temperature over 30 degrees and the vines were getting green. Having consumed loads of water climbing we reached the mortuary chapel of queen Katharina of Würtemberg at the top of Rotenberg (red mountain). The chapel was built in 1820-1824 at the place where the old castle of the house Würtemberg had been torn down in 1819. After taking a paus and having a look at the chapel we went down the next valley on our way towards Esslingen. Walking up and down the hills and valleys we among other things found an old tower, which according to a sign is called "Schlurger" and is the scene of many old fairy tales. Finally we arrived in Esslingen and well there we thought we might as well check out the old fotifications of the city. Climbing the last hill for the day, this time with stairs on top of the old defensive walls we reached the top of the fortifications where we found the oldest toilet I have ever seen. Walking down this last hill hurt our sore feet and all we could think of was eating. For the four hour excursion we had brought lots of water but not much to eat, so I'm sure nobody has ever been so happy finding the kebab-shop in central Esslingen which sells "Grosser Kebab". |
