Dalat - Highlights included all endemics, inc, 4 Yellow-billed Nutatch (p), Blk-Hooded (p) and Collared Laughingthrushs, 8 sightings of Cutia (p), stunning views, and Grey-crowned Crocias.

Nearby De Linh proved to be the best site with Blue and Rusty-naped Pitta seen too along with most of the above, stunning views of Orange-breasted Laughingthrush (p) duetting extremely close, lets hope the photos turn out!

 

Cat Tien - 15 Germains Peacock Pheasants, inc 2 males fighting between us on path and displaying within 5 metres (p), 48 sightings of both Pittas (both p), Orange-necked Partridge, Green Peafowl, Pale-headed Woodpecker and Sibe Rubythroat

 

Central Highlands - Access denied to see Golden-winged Laughingthrush, so just birded parts of the heavily degraded road near Lo Xo Pass, failed on Blk-crowned Barwing too, not a sniff, little bird activity, just Rusty-naped Pitta heard. Apparently the Mountain will be ready for tourists next year.

 

Bach Ma NP - Stunning views of Annam Partridge (p), Short-tailed Scimitar Babbler (p down to 10 feet), Brown Fish Owl family (p). Also Silver-breasted and Long-tailed Broadbill, White-gorgeted Flycatcher and Blue-rumped Pitta (p)

 

Phong Nha - 3 Sooty Babblers (p), 1 Sulpher-breasted Warbler (of the local (sub)species)

 

Cuc Phong - 5 Eared Pittas (sev heard), 4 Red-collared Woodpeckers, White-winged Magpies, 6 Limestone Wren Babbler (p), Pied Falconets

 

Tam Dao - 4 Blue-naped Pittas, Collared Treepie, Short-tailed+Rufous headed Parrotbill, 4 Green Cochoa (p), 5 Pied Harrier + usual other stuff

 

Ba Vi - Rufous-cheeked Laughingthrushs (p), great views of several, pair Green Cochoas (p), 3 Sibe Thrush, Red-billed Blue Magpie (p)

 

Fansipan - Slender-billed Scimiter Babbler, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Sapphire Blue Flycatcher (p), 2 White-browed Bush Robin (p), 2 Scaly, sev Red-winged (p), 2 Black-faced (p) Laughingthrushs

 

Taman Negara, Malaysia - Malayan Tapir, Long-billed Partridge, 2 Large (p) & 2 Javan Frogmouth, Reddish Scops Owl (p) and most of the other goodies, such as Banded & Garnet Pittas, Cinammon rumped Trogon (all p)

 

Keang Krachen - 2 White-fronted Scops Owl (p), 4 Blue Pitta, 2+ Ferruginous & Bar-backed Prtridge

Sangihe - 1 Sangihe Scops Owl (p), c11 Sangihe Shrike-thrush (p), 2 Cearulean Paradise Flycatcher, sev. Elegant Sunbird, 1 Hooded Pitta, 3 Sanghie Golden Bulbul (p), 5 Sangihe Drongo (p), 5 Sangihe Hanging Parrots, 1 Sangihe Lilac Kingfisher (p) and 3 Sangihe Tarsier (p)

 

Talaud - Talaud Bush-hen (p?), sev. Talaud Kingfisher (p), Red & Blue Lory (p) (inc 2-300 roosting in 1 tree, incredible), 1 Grey Imperial Pigeon, 2 Bulwer's Petrel, Island Monach (p), sev. 'Talaud' Pitta (p) (Red-bellied subsp), Blue-rumped & Blue-naped (a good split?) Parrot and 4 Talaud Scrubfowl (p)

 

Lompobatteng Massif - Lompobatteng Flycatcher (p), sev. Black-ringed White-eye (p), Green-backed Kingfisher (p)

 

Lore Lindu NP - Blue-faced Rail, 2 Sulawesi Woodcock (ROH), Geomalia, Purple-beared Bee-eater (p), Red-eared & Superb Fruit-dove (p), Great Shortwing, Sulawesi Ground-dove, Diabolical Nightjar (p), Sulawesi Scops Owl (p), Sulawesi Thrush, Mountain Serin, Small Sparrowhawk (p) also Cuscus (p), superb park, so many quality birds, certainly worth going back to for endemics missed (Sombre Pigeon!)

 

Dumoga Bone - Rufous-throated Flycatcher (p), Speckled Boobook (p), Sulawesi Dwarf Kingfisher (p), Sulawesi Ground-dove

 

Gunung Ambang - Cinnabar Hawk-owls (p), Speckled Boobook, Red-backed Thrush (p), Matinan Flycatcher (p), Sulawesi Owl, Sulawesi Scops Owl, Sulawesi Ground Dove, Scaly Kingfisher (p)

 

Halmahera - Standardwing Bird of Paradise (p, the best bird I have ever seen, stunning in full display), Ivory-breasted Pitta (p, second best bird ever?!), Moluccan Goshawk, all parrots, Sombre Kingfisher, Moluccan Owlet-nightjar, Moluccan Scop's (p) & Boobook, all other endemics except Beach Kingfisher & Dusky Friarbird, brilliant birding but an incredibly slow island, even by Indonesian standards!!

 

Tangkoko - Tarsiers (p, down to 4 feet), Ochre-bellied Boobook heard, White-rumped Cuckoo-shrike, Dwarf Hornbill, Chestnut-backed Thrush, Silver-tipped Imperial Pigeon, Green-backed Kingfisher (p), Sulawesi Owl (p), Sulawesi Nightjar, Ornate Lorikeet

 

Bunaken - Great-billed Kingfisher, White-rumped Cuckoo-shrike

Then back home to save for next years trips starting in January to Philippines, Cambodia, Taiwan and south-east China and maybe Sumatra and Java
