Ironbridge
Ironbridge, birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, is also
home to a huge variety of fossils that make up the Silurian Wenlock Limestone of the
area. At any one of a number of quarries in the area you will find crinoids,
bryozoa, brachiopods, gastropods as well as many different types of corals.
The fossils in this collection have so far come from one location - Pattinswood
Quarry. Whilst the quarry is found at the end of a very exhausting climb, it
remains one of my favourite localities in Shropshire for collecting. As soon
as you enter, the ground around you is littered with fossils, no-one leaves
here empty handed.
Hopefully this year I'll look further afield at other quarries
but while this one remains so rich, it's hard to drag yourself away.

Collecting in Pattinswood.
