History
of the name
The
forename John is a Hebrew word/name meaning God is gracious. The
origins of the surname are somewhat in dispute. Derivatives of the
name are Bordet, Bourdet, Burdet, Burdette, Burdit, Burditt.
The family name Burdett is believed to have originated from the Norman nobles that invaded England with William the Conquerer in 1066. Hugue and Robert Bourdet
were two nobles alongside William. It is noted that from
this time the name has altered. Hugue ( or hugh as he became
known) and his brother were recorded in the Doomsday book as tenants in
Bramcote, Leicestershire under the name Burdet. It is probable
that derivatives of the name owe their existence to misspellings
and concessions to regional dialects. |

Our
John
John Burdett is a Sites
and safety adviser working within a busy central office in a
county town. He is keen on sport, with varying degrees of success,
a keen supporter of a soccer team that will remain nameless, and
an active motorcyclist.
He has surprised us recently by keeping his desk clear of paper
work, sweet packets and mugs of coffee with more culture in them
than the Edinburgh Festival. |
