The poetry of Justin Robert Cooper

Home

I’m Justin Robert Cooper, I’m 23 years old and I live in the North-east of England. I have been a writer since an early age. My father has written children's books (unpublished) and other stories; he is a singer, a guitarist, a pianist, and composer; and has been writing and producing songs since before I was born.

Growing up I admired my dad's talents, so I decided to write stories and songs myself. When I was 11, I tried to get a story published, but I was told that it wasn't what the publisher was looking for. I continued to write anyway.

In my teens I started writing poetry as a way of dealing with my depression. I have since had poems published on websites, and self-published a book of poetry. The poetry book didn't sell well (I have withdrawn it from publication), but I take this as a sign to keep trying and improving my writing skill. It's still an ambition of mine to be published.

I don’t write because I want to, it’s always been something I’ve felt the need to do. I’m sharing my poetry because I’ve had encouragement from friends and family, and I hope that people can relate to my work, or at least get a different perspective.

I understand that not everyone will like my poetry, and that some of the poems aren’t my best work. Regardless of that, here it is.
