Whenever possible I'll be travelling in my Eunos Roadster, better known in the UK as the Mazda MX5 and in the United States as the Miata. The Eunos Roadster is the best ever selling sports car. My model is the 1.8 injection, built in nineteen ninety four and imported into the UK in nineteen ninety nine.
After years of being shut in an everyday saloon car with the air conditioning switched on, what a liberating experience it is to travel with the hood down feeling the wind in your hair and the sun beating down.
Not for me a weekend vehicle or a posing machine, this is my everyday form of transport come rain or shine, the roadsters made for travelling otherwise it would be called the weekender or sun shiner. Since purchasing our roadster it has taken us to the south of England, the Lake District, Yorkshire, North and West Wales and most of the Midlands plus northern France from Calais to St Malo, Caen to Samur it's definitely a Roadster.
In July 2002 Lyne and I took the Roadster on our vacation to northern France for two weeks, over that period we travelled two thousand four hundred trouble free miles not all unfortunately with the hood down. Lack of luggage space was a problem at first but was soon sorted with a boot rack, a huge waterproof suitcase plus two fabric cases from the Miata club in the USA that fit behind the seats with hood up or down, for hood down use there is a strap that fastens them to the stiffener bar across the passenger compartment, this also prevents anyone snatching the bags when in traffic. Obligatory spare bulbs stowed in the boot along with the warning triangle, pump, fire extinguisher, tool kit and first aid kit then off we go.
Starting out from Stoke-on-Trent we headed for Dover at 15:30 on 27th, just three hours later we were on the M25 waiting in the queues heading for the Dartford bridge, eventually parting with our pound coin to head south for the Travel Inn off the M20, eventually arriving at 20:30 and ready for a well earned rest. A meal and a pint at the restaurant then off to bed, alarm set for 05:30 to catch the 08:15 Sea France ferry, not a lot of sleep that night in anticipation of the journey ahead.
