JANET (b. 1833)

(Position 17 on the Genealogy Report.)

Janet, the fourth child of Alexander and Elisabeth, was born in Glasgow on 25 November 1833.  She is known to have been a grocer/shopkeeper, which seems to be rather in keeping with the Dunlop tradition and also, if we can take it as correct that the Adam sisters were dressmakers, with her mother's life too.  On 21 November 1861, when she was 27 years old, Janet married Donald Maclean, a cotton warper, in Glasgow.  Donald was the son of Neil Maclean and [Alexandrina] Campbell.  They are known to have had eight children, the chidren were:
John, born in 1862.  John married a girl called Jessie, and they are believed to have had two or more children.  Nothing else is known of John's life.

Elizabeth (sic) was born in 1864 and died in the same year.

Elizabeth Adam, who was known as Bessie, was born in 1865.  Bessie married John Niven, son of James Niven and Annie Lennox, in Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire, on 24 June 1885.  John is known to have been a wholesale grocer.  Bessie and John had five children: James (b. 1886, in Glasgow), Jessie Dunlop (b. 1888, in Glasgow), Donald Maclean (b. 1891, in Glasgow), Annie Lennox (b. 1894, in Glasgow) and Elizabeth (date and place of birth not known).

Alexander, who was born and died in 1867.

Alexander Campbell was born on 20 June 1868 in Row (Rhu) Dunbartonshire.  Alexander is known to have been a grocer, and it is assumed that he was a grocer in Rhu or Helensburgh.  He married Christine (Chrissie) McCallum on 3 June 1901, in Helensburgh.  Chrissie was the daughter of Duncan McCallum and Mary McDonald, and was born about 1883.  Alexander and Chrissie had five children: Alexander (date and place of birth not known), Donald (b. 1903, in Helensburgh), Duncan (b. 1905, in Helensburgh), Mary (b. 1906, in Helensburgh) and Elizabeth (Betty, whose date and place of birth are not known).

Thomas.  Thomas was born after Alexander Campbell, but it is not known exactly when, and nothing is known of him other than that.

Donald was born in 1871.  He married Mary Eleanor Grey in Leeds, Yorkshire, on 21 August 1900.  Donald and Mary are known to have had three children: Mary Adamson (b. 1901), Jessie Dunlop (b. 1902, in Glasgow) and Andrew (b. 1906, in Glasgow).

Jessie, born 1874.  Nothing is known of Jessie other than her birth.
