Robina bore ten children to Thomas: William Jack (b. 1854), Thomas (b. 1855), Robert Jack (b. 1857), Robina Jack (b. 1859), Ann Jack (b. 1860), Mary Jack (b. 1863), Alexandra Margaret Scott (b. 1867), James Charles Boyd (b. 1869), Norman Macleod (b. 1872), and Janet Agnes Scobie (b. 1873).   Only Thomas, Robert, Robina, Ann, Alexandra and Janet, however, survived to maturity, and this section of the website is about them.

Thomas was born on 2 August 1855 at 20 Buccleuch Street, Glasgow.  His father was, at that time, a provision merchant, with premises at 231 Cowcaddens Street, in the heart of Glasgow.  20 Buccleuch Street was probably a tenement building, and it can be seen from the Glasgow Post Office Directories that it was occupied by G. Anderson, Mrs J. Moir, J. Stewart and John Fleming, as well as by the Dunlop family.
