| Sir Thomas, who was married twice, died on 29 January 1938, at 6 Park Terrace Glasgow, and was buried in Glasgow's most spectacular cemetery, the Necropolis. (The land on which the graveyard is built was owned by the Merchants' House of Glasgow from 1650 until 1960, at which date the Merchants' House handed the graveyard over to the city council.) |

Thomas's first marriage was to Dorothy Euphemia Mitchell, in Longniddry, East Lothian, on 12 June 1879. Thomas and Dorothy had seven children:
Elizabeth Bryson Mitchell (b. 1879), Thomas (b. 1881), Peter Mitchell (b. 1883), Robina Stirling (b. 1885), Dortothy Euphemia Mitchell (b. 1888), Mary
Boyd (b. 1890), and Robert Jack (b. 4 September 1891 [the father of Robert Jack Dunlop of Appin]). Their fist child, Elizabeth, died on 25 August
1891, when she was only twelve years old. The others all reached maturity. Dorothy died on 22 September 1891, barely three weeks after the
birth of her seventh child, Robert Jack, and about one month after the death of her first child, Elizabeth.
Thomas was married for a second time, to Dorothy's younger sister Margaret, on 19 October 1893. They married in Canada, had no children, and Margaret died on 12 May 1952, in Helensburgh, aged 95. |
