Operations and maintenance on a network consisting of 19 DMS100’s and 2 Broadband STP's. My main job was to help set up an NMC and to train Technicians on interpreting, analyzing, and clearing alarms/logs/OM’s. I was also responsible for setting up and/or datafilling/standardizing certain switch parameters such as IMGSCHED, DIRPSSYS, and Managers AMREPORT. I also worked with the Billing Department troubleshooting faults involving AFT and AMA record problems. I also investigated customer reported faults, congestion, and overflow issues. I was responsible for tracking GPS sync cut-over progress and keeping related documentation up-to-date. Other reports I had to create and maintain for management were Network Subscriber line counts, V5 Customer sites inventory, GPP Links inventory, GVT PBX trunkgroups and related access numbers, Nortel commissioning problems, and Hardware fault/Nortel Punchlists. I also worked with, assisted, and/or coordinated projects with the switch techs at remote sites.

Nortel provided DMS babysitter - I provided general support and performed Nortel First Level Maintenance tasks on a new DMS100. Duties included clearing alarms, and troubleshooting hardware faults. I installed IOM cables, did the datafill, and tested/turned up various switch room devices: terminals, printers, ETAS links, etc. I also helped install/test all the EI carrier circuit packs. I was also responsible for ensuring all AMA files were backed up, and that AFT (Auto File Transfer) was working correctly.

I worked on a team that provided 24 hour monitoring and support for our UK based DMS100/200/300 network, including identification and resolution of hardware and software faults related to the core switched network, to ensure reliability and functionality of all voice switching equipment used. This was a proactive position, and required general knowledge of signalling protocols such as CCS7, Q931, DPNSS, and DASS. I also worked on customer reported trouble tickets. The job included running travers and AMA dumps to identify translation/routing problems, and interpreting logutil reports. I worked with other telephone companies, on a daily basis, to analyze and rectify interconnect faults. I verified customer trunk and hardware datafills during fault resolutions, and instigated management and technical escalations. I provided assistance to customers, customer vendors, and other Energis departments in the integration and testing of new circuits.

I built switch translations on service orders, turned up new service to customers, & troubleshot customer reported problems. I dialed into Nortel DMS500 switches in various different cities, & worked with local technicians to make sure new service was turned up in a timely manner, & to quickly resolve problems. Service I worked on included lines, huntgroups, 2 way trunks, ISDN PRI's, hybrid-line trunks, switched 800, dedicated 800, meridian voicemail, & some centrex. In the course of troubleshooting routing problems, I sometimes worked with techs at other telco end offices to verify we're routing correctly. I also worked daily with customers & customer vendors, helping them configure equipment and/or troubleshoot problems; routers, PBX's, etc. I used servord on a daily basis as well as datafilling software tables. I was the SSC representative for the Telecom Business System, a new system we were implementing that keeps records & maintains all service activity: designs, records, completion dates, turn-up dates, etc. I tested the system for bugs, & kept my coworkers updated on enhancements, & process changes that occurred. I worked daily with customers, service reps, NOC technicians, engineers, designers, & project coordinators.

I provided first teir support to all 14 states within US West territory, as a member of the ISDN maintenance group. I dialed into Nortel Networks DMS and AT&T 5ess switches to perform diagnostic tests, and verify software translations. I dispatched technicians to the customer location to check and/or repair cable pairs, and to central office and remote locations to check for hardware faults, alarms, and configuration errors. My main focus was on BRI, both standard & custom. I also had some experience with MLHG and PRI. I troubleshot circuits, and assisted customers and/or vendors in configuring their equipment and performing end to end tests.

Installed and tested DMS 100 switching equipment in the San Francisco area. This included initial installations involving the building, power verification, front end commissioning, pm diags, loopback tests, LENPRG, and JSA automated testing. This included using reference materials, data filling tables, and troubleshooting test failures. Was also been involved in network extensions, line extensions, Transport Node installation, and SONET conversions. Also performed hardware and software upgrades to existing switches.

Tested and troubleshot S/DMS Access Node and Transport Node equipment to system level in a team directed environment. This involved using PC and Unix based HP workstations, along with FWP06, AN06 - 7, and MAPCI to commission the OPC, and test the various packs and features.
