The Dance'n Drone Festival ran for three successive years at The Purcell Room on the South Bank. The last edition featured the premieres of Folies Bergères' new show Let Them Eat Cake (also featured at Sidmouth Festival),and Chalemie's latest pantomime: Harlequin Sculptor, or Pygmalion and the Missing Toes. Both were outstanding successes and both groups were selected for Early Music Network tours. Chalemie also ran three very successful Summer School of Early Music, Dance and Commedia dell'Arte in August, to be repeated next year. Enquiries welcome. Jean-Pierre Rasle performed with Bampton Classical Opera the much lauded first revival of 'Nina' by Mozart's friend Paisiello (its original score included Italian bagpipes!). He is busy editing a unique 17th century manuscript of smallpipes pieces: Jean de La Mer and has been commissioned by the Bagpipe Society to translate the classic French bagpipe method of Bernard Boulanger: Jouer de la Cornemuse. Monica Huggett's Ensemble Sonnerie performed two concerts, Noël! Noël! with special guests Jean-Pierre Rasle and Caroline Kershaw in the Holywell Room, Oxford, and the Wigmore Hall, London, to great acclaim. More are planned. |
