David Trezeguet
Date of Birth: 15/10/1977
Birth Place: Rouen
Nationality: French
Transfer Fee Paid: £14m
David Trezeguet was signed from Monaco in the summer of 2000 for £14m. The transfer was completed 4 days after his golden goal for France which won them the European Championships, beating Italy in the final. His signing was a big risk for Juventus who were stuggling at the time to attract big name stars.
He had a indifferent start to his Juventus career and it was a fight between him and Filippo Inzaghi for the place up front next to Alessandro Del Piero. But, it was Inzaghi who started the season in the first team and he was producing some fantastic performances, but as christmas came, Inzaghi picked up a bad knee injury which would keep him out for 2 months, and Trezeguet took his chance and scored 6 goals in 7 games.
When Inzaghi finally returned, Trezeguet once again found himself on the bench. But Inzaghi hit his annual slump in form with about 7 games to go, and Trezeguet was back in the team and scoring goals. He finished the season with 18 goals.
In the summer of 2001 Juventus recieved a bid of £23m for Inzaghi and thought that the potential that was in Trezeguet was to big to refuse the offer and Inzaghi left Juventus for A.C. Milan.
This season Trezeguet has become one of the most feared strikers in europe. He is currently the top scorer in Italy and in the Champions League. He is likely to be at the centre of transfer talk during the summer.
