Gem's Story

"Gem makes some new friends"

February 1998

"Mr & Mrs B asked me for a Keeshond as a companion for their rescued Boxer dog who was missing their deceased Collie. They had known Keeshonds in the past and decided that they would like another. A few days later, I was asked to rehome Gem, a neutered 8 year old male. He was used to living with an elderly male Keeshond, but his owners were finding them rather a lot to cope with and felt that the younger of the two would probably be less upset by the move. He was said to be a very nice natured dog but had recently lapsed in his toilet habits. I explained this to Mr & Mrs B who thought that they could cope with the problem (which they didn't see as much of a problem anyway as they had coped with it before with their Boxer). As this dog and Mr & Mrs B's Boxer were used to living with another male dog, they were very happy to give him a home.
Anji Marfleet very kindly agreed to collect Gem and take him to Mr & Mrs B. They were delighted with him - and still are. He is a lovely boy, gets on well with their Boxer and their little girl, and what is more, he now asks to go out when he needs to. At the time of writing, the family are about to go on their annual holiday and, of course, will be taking both dogs with them".
