A brief explanation may be in order at this point, in that many comments have been received to the effect that the contents of Bag o'Bones bear little or no relation to either the Laffin Bones, The Grateful Dead or anything to do with the music of either. This is nothing if not calumny and detraction. Let us explain. First of all, we never said it would. Second of all - consider this . . .

The Dead are rightly famous for their impromptu extemporisings, leading to extended improvisation on a theme or themes. In other words, they jam it out to see where it can be taken. Bag o'Bones is exactly the same, a cryptical wotsit . . but these themes are simply without the music, OK ? - It costs nothing to have a dip.
