The latest blog

Riga's latest project was hosting the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Regatta. Its organizers, on both the Latvian and the international side, claimed Latvian maritime tradition as an important factor in selecting Riga as one of the host ports. As anyone who stopped by the port could tell you, it was more than an empty justification for the possibly tangled politics of the selection process. It meant something. Many justifications, no matter how cheesy, ultimately do, perhaps because they appeal to something good and clean and a bit childish within us; we just have to stop being cynical for a while.
