Background:

I became involved with this beautiful breed in 1981 when my sister purchased our first Chihuahua from Mrs Vickers (Audels).  Later we bought a further little girl from Mrs Nicholls (Nixtrix).  In time we bred a litter from her, going to Ch. Anyako Admiral as the sire and further purchased a young male Anyako Gabriel from the late Mrs Hazel Mitchell.

I was given the honour of showing Gabriel in order to give me an incentive to attend the shows, rather than just as the chauffeur!  Although he could be quite a handful, he showed himself off 100% and his character was, for me, one of his strongest features.  I was fortunate to be able to campaign this lovely boy to his title.

This combination of our first homebred puppy bitch (Amarantos Alexandria) put to the young Gabriel produced a litter within which our first champion was born.  Ch. Amarantos Khepresh’ – his named derived from ‘the blue war helmet worn by the Pharaohs’.  This was my sister’s pride and joy, he was such a gentle natured little lad; a profusely coated blue/fawn who had everything you could wish for in a little Chi.

Later we repeated the mating and I was to campaign ‘Ch. Amarantos Gabriella’ also to her title.  A small golden/white bitch, she had the ability to show non-stop, like her sire and although she took a while to develop, came into her own and even fulfilled her abilities as a mother following her show career.  All of the dogs I have today are descendants of her.

We have been fortunate to breed and/or own 4 UK Champions, 1 Irish Ch. and 1 dual Zimbabwe /Zambian Ch.  Also many new kennels have benefited from showing a variety of our youngsters, winning major awards and developing on from there.

Although the fascination for the breed originated through my sister, I have remained totally involved with them and have become so intrinsically involved with Chihuahuas. over the past 20+ years that I cannot imagine life without them.

I have served with the Long Coat Chihuahua Club since 1997; greeting exhibitors initially, with their catalogues/ring cards; taking on the club raffle – again more an exercise in public relations and subsequently, the responsibility for the club stall - promoting the club and it’s publications.  I have also enjoyed my involvement in photographing the principal winners - which has enabled us to publish show results with a pictorial history.

I am qualified to judge the breed with Challenge Certificates in both smooth coat and long coat.  I attend seminars & lectures regularly, based on the principal that you can never know too much or in fact “know it all”!  I am always willing to provide help and advice where requested.
