Cold spots
Cold spots

The cottages are by their very nature are quite cold inside at the best of times. The walls are limestone which are about 18 inches thick and even in the heat of the summer the air is quite cool inside. Although cold inside the air temperature is normally quite stable.

The main "cold spot" effect occurred at the same time each evening which was usually around 9:30pm. Sometimes it did vary and on odd occasions would happen as late as 11:30pm. The area affected was the lounge. I would be sitting watching TV and suddenly I would feel quite chilly. The drop in temperature was quite sudden and it was like somebody had just walked in through the lounge door into and across the room. The cold spot would persist for some time and then gradually dissipate.

In all fairness this effect could be attributed to air currents flowing through the building, but I can't see how this is possible as the cold spot would occur almost bang on time each evening and it did not matter if the outside windspeed was dead calm or blowing a roaring gale. I have felt cold drafts on a windy night but they never had the sudden icy temperature drop that the cold spot effect produced.

Sometimes an overwhelming feeling of being watched by some invisible presence would accompany the cold spot. Just like someone had entered the room.
