| "People don't take trips -
trips take people" - John Steinbeck.
Woke to a chilly, picture postcard scene - wooden alpine houses with geraniums hanging from the windows, pine trees, snow capped mountains etc. It really was just stunning. We were both still quite tired from the travelling (and still recuperating from the excesses of the previous two days) so we decided to have a day pottering at the campsite rather than on the road. Jonny soon got stuck into one of his favourite pastimes...sorting his toolbox and screws ...the excitement almost killed me!!! Once the sun had finally peaked over the mountain, the temperature soon rose so I opted for a spot of sunbathing with a book. However, to show willing, I did varnish our Syd Young bespoke step (to help us get into the van without developing hernias) a rather fetching shade of teak.In the afternoon we felt it was time to break in our walking boots but by the time we'd made it to the village (quarter of a mile at most) Jonny had a tight chest and a headache and I was too hot to carry on! Hopefully things will improve by the time we reach the Himalayas!! |
