5/21/07 - I 76 Hacks

I'm glad to see someone actually STILL has a fan site out there for I76! I reently reinstalled it on my WinXP PC, and have been blowing crap up in instant-bot-melee battles.

Its been about 10 years, but I used to spend hours at night (and day) hacking and playing this game online. I would love to try my hand at some hacks and paint jobs again, just for old times. I remeber there used to be all kinds of crazy modifications you could do through a Hex Editor, I think my editor of choice at the time was Hex32 or something like that.

Anyway, I have lost all my printed copies of tutorials to hack the car stats. Oddly enough, you can't even find references to them online. All the sites were long gone before Google was around caching them into memory.

Do you have any of the old txt or word documents on how to do that stuff anymore? There used to be a car that went (to scale) like 0-300MPH in a second... but you had to have the tuning just so to get it to work. There were also monster tires and ways to place several turrets on any one car.

I am able to play the Gold Edition of I76 in D3D (I think at 800x600 only), but can't get Nitro to play in anything other than software at 1024x768. Is it possible to play Nitro in D3D too?
Hope you get this!

Thanks for the comments. I remember Hack '76 used to be a pretty popular program for a while, but unforunately, I don't have any of the files for it. A quick Google search brought up a few pages with some I '76 hacks, but not too much info. I hope these links help:

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/7722/cheat.htm
http://www.fortunecity.com/underworld/caterpillar/314/Hacks.htm

As far as playing Nitro in D3D, I thought it used the same engine and patches as the I '76 Gold Edition, so if one works, the other should. The resolutions were locked at 640x480 and 800x600, if I recall correctly. You might have to turn off certain options on your graphics card driver to get it to work. I'm sorry that I can't really say anything definite. If I come across an answer, I'll try to get it up on the site.

5/12/07 - More Road to Cover on the Interstate

I started thinking of my good ol' i76 gaming days, and it took a while for my to come out of my daydreams...honestly, I think it would be a good game to this date and I would love to see activision raising the game from the dead by making a true prequel, with the feel of i76 TRIP. The trip was in my opinion one of the best computer game experiences I have ever had. Anyways, so activision would be afraid of losing money, but what if they, were innovative and used more or less the same game engine, saving shitloads of money and only using money on development of missions and story etc. It would be a cheap affair for Activision, it would almost make sure that the original atmosphere of the game remained and if a fan community is involved in the planning stages for important input it could truly become a great game.

aaaaahh...I love to dream pleasant dreams. But, do you think there is any posibility that activision would let do something like this? (how much I would like to drive that beloved Picard Pirahna once more)

Unfortunately, it's not going to happen. I'm sure at this point, Activision is done with the Interstate series and even though it would be great to see another game, I just can't see it.

3/26/07 - I '76 XP Installation Woes

Hi, I was wondering if you had any information about getting Interstate 76 to install under XP. At the moment SETUP.EXE manages to extract itself no problem, but when the installation process begins and it determines what system its being installed on it refuses. Ive tried every possible kind of compatability mode and a few other things besides. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers.

It seems that I '76 has installation problems with the original disc. Be sure to check out the FAQ.

I’ll show your site and guestbook to my friends

Spam is awesome.

12/11/07 - I '76 downloads

I just stumbled onto the site today (12-11-06) and noticed that some of the I'76 files are still active! So I got the patch from probably the only available server on the internet. Thanks a lot :) Everything else is dead, though, and I mean, it's a little late to be looking for files for I'76 but I wondered if you could fix some of the links on this site? Activision decided to totally drop support of their older games, as I'm sure you know. Anyway, glad to see some remnant of my classic games still around, even if it's only by the good graces of Lycos.

Enjoy the holidays.

I'm trying to get things back up. Maybe I can piece some things back together.

10/3/07 - Fungi power

I'm a die-hard (read dying hard) fan of Interstate '76. I have the orginal discs of the game. The old ones for Windows 95, where the install disc has the Mech Warrior 2 Demo and some video previews of A-10 Cuba, etc (Thats all I remember). Now, both discs have a problem. There is some sort of 'fungus' or something that has eaten through the reflective surface on the top of the discs. There are these 'plant root' like formations that are transparent. And the discs are unreadable.

If I'm not asking much, let me know if there is someone who can help with this. Or give/sell a copy of the game ? I need the old one for Windows 95 as I found that it does not have any installation problems like the Win 98 version. Please help ! I'm dying to blow up some Creepers. Please help !

Ouch. I do have a lonesome copy of an I '76 Disc 1 sitting around, but a much better thing to do would be to go to GameTap and download I '76. Sure, it costs a couple of bucks, but it's the easiest way to find the game.

10/2/06 - Hot copy, indeed

I guess the chances that anyone will recieve this are slim, and even if you are reading it now, I have a feeling that the chances for you to give me a url to a pirated copy of I76 are slim aswell. But I don't really think I have anything to loose, so If you are reading this. And you happen to know of someone that has the entire game uploaded somewhere, or you have the game and could upload it somewhere, please let me know, because I have lost the original cd and finding a vendor that carries a ten year old game isn't that easy...

alt.binaries.old.games? Besides that, check out GameTap. It costs a few dollars, but you can easily get your I '76 fix.

7/30/06 - Tunes

I recently dug up my old I76 cd and ripped the badass funky music to mp3. I don't know what the track names are! Can you help a brotha' out?

Coming your way - I '76 track names.

Can anyone help me out here?

8/13/05 - Hi-Res I '76 XP-style

recently I found the way to play Interstate 76 on WinXP (turn sound acc down.) But now I discovered that I can only play it on 640/480 reslolution. I think I used to play it (with Win98) on 1024/768... Is there any tweak to play it in higher resolution? I've installed the gold edition patch, but still 640/480. I don't feel like installing win98 just to play I76 (although it's a great game...)

Gold edition is locked in at 640x480 and 800x600, unless you're in software mode.

6/19/05 - BZ for Dowload

do you know where can i download battlezone full version? thank you!

Check alt.binaries.old.games. Besides that, haven't got the foggiest.

4/16/05 - Finding BZ

I've been playing the Demo for Battlezone (1) and having fun with it. Not ready for BattlezoneII yet. Do you know where I can buy the non-demo for Battlezone?

I found something on E-bay, but it's only $5.00 and indicates 'original sound and graphics'...only fight tanks. Which doesn't sound like the full graphics demo at all.

Any help?

Amazon or Ebay is the best bet. Besides that, the original Battlezone is a hard find.

4/15/2005 - Real Life I '76ing

I am an old big I-76 fan, myself I got a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback I'd like to show youa picture from, it is funny because that game, forced me to get an old great car :) anyway, fabulous website , bookmarked, keep updating it please !!! It is the best I76 site out there !!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Thank you very much. I'm always glad to hear a good story and I'm always glad to hear good things about the site.

2/17/06 BZ Servers (AGAIN!)

Know how to find/join servers?I used to be a huge bz fan

Only one Battlezone server is left. Download the new servers.dat file and hope that someone else is online.

1/27/05 - Hanging around

Interstate '76 still is my favorite Game! I just stumbled over your site, and I just wanted to say that it's really great! I like the part with the pre-release pictures! I also didn't know that most of the places really exist. Great stuff! I just hope this site will stay online, and not vanish like most of the I'76 sites did ...

Good to hear you liked the site. For better or for worse this site is still hanging around. Granted, my sporadic updates may not be helping anything (I'm answering mail from '05 in '07), but I plan to keep the site up as long as possible. Outlasting the competition has always been my style.

12/24/2004 - BZ Online

Hey, i wonder if u can tell me how to play BZ I in internet. I've already downloaded the patch and the servers list, but doesnt work at all. Tahnk u.

Download the latest servers.dat file and check out the BZ FAQ.

11/28/2004 - Modern Mechwarrior 2

Hey bud. Nostalgia came knocking at my door a few days ago and I had the sudden urge to play the old Mechwarrior 2. I have the windows 95 version. Is there any way for it to work on my current day pc? Thank you very much for your time.

Good question. I'm not really sure, but I would try out the same things that are listed in the Interstate '76 FAQ.

11/24/2004 - BZ Servers... Again

Trying to get Battlezone(I not II) up and running again...best game ever. Having problem running multiplayer on xp. any ideas?

Will find server but when I create a game it locks up. xp task-master says "battlezone not responding"

Download the latest servers.dat file and check the FAQ.

10/1/04 - Servers.dat no Good

Hi, after copying your servers.dat file into the BZ folder and following all your step.. when i cilck the internet option in the multiplayer mode, no server is listed. i'm working on window 2000.. previously i played it on win 98 and theres no problem.. can you help me?

The previous servers.dat file was out of date. Install the new one.

9/19/2004 - Buy BZ

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to by the Battlezone Gold packet, because it is impossible to get it in Norway, and this game is the best game i have ever played,so I would be really greatful if You could give me an answer back.Yours respectfully Roy.

The game pops up on Amazon and ebay from time to time. Besides that, this is one hard piece of plastic to find.

9/19/2004/ - Download BZ

Do you have the full battlezone version that you can download for free?

No. Try alt.binaries.games.old.

9/17/2004 - BZ Keys

I am looking for a keyboard overlay card or whats on the card for BZ and the unit construction order. Do you have these in any kinda electronic format you could send me?

Even better yet, I've got them on the site in the downloads section.

9/16/04 - MW1 help

i have tried to download the mechwarrior game, but it unzips as a screensaver. i need help, i love these games and would love to play the first one, please help me!

Put the game on a floppy (or a CD if you must), load up a DOS prompt, and then run the program from there. I'm not sure why, but it doesn't like hard disk installs.

9/13/2004 - Jacob's Shadow

Thanks for collecting the Jacob's Shadow quotes from Deus Ex. I was considering doing it myself the hard way if I couldn't find it on the Net.

It's hard to believe that it's not a real book! I would have liked to have read it!

Hey, glad you found something useful on the site. I, as well, was surprised to find out it wasn't a real book, but that it was just another metaphor for the entire game.

8/12/04 - BZ Servers Again

hey is there still a server (online game) and if so how do i find it

Yes, download the servers.dat file and go to the FAQ page.

8/5/04 - Duh

do you have any cheat for battlezone thankyou

Have you seen the site?

7/14/04 - What About Those Servers?

Im a fervent battlezone player but since a month when i try to play it in multiplayer mode there are no srevers no more, and same for other players, is bz finisched?

Battlezone is pretty much toast as a multiplayer game. There's only one server left, as far as I know, and that is just a fan-set-up server. Get the latest servers.dat file to play on it.

4/17/04 - AVA Stuff

Hello,
first of all.. cool site :)
i found it while looking for I76 stuff, there was a link to a file avautils.exe
.. but that doesnt seem to work anymore :(
could you upload it again please? if you do, could you send me a message?
thanks for your time

Links are updated and ready to rock and roll.

4/16/04 - Pulling My Weight

HI I am just wondering why Battle Zone and battle Zone 2 cant be found on Activision.com anymore. Battle Zone is my all-time favorite game and i want ot get Battle Zone 2. hope to hear from you about this matter soon. You should tell Activision to make a 3rd Battle Zone.

It would be nice if I had that much clout. Unfortunately, just like anyone and everyone else, I'm just a fan that enjoyed a game.

3/26/04 - Can You Do Me a Favor?

I would like to know if you are going to make a Battle Zone 3 I have been very egger to play on. Battle Zone 2 is still the best game I have ever played, concidering its age in the world of video games to date. I have played Battle Zone 2 for years now. So please, at least let me know if you do or do not intenting to make another game. For your information Iam a PC user

Sorry, I'm definitely not making Battlezone 3. It doesn't appear that Activision or Pandemic Studios are going to be pursuing that game either.

3/25/04 - Battling on a Whim

Don't know if you're still there, but i just picked up an old copy of battlezone on a whim (I never finished it but I still have the saves). Just wondering if you happen to know of any way to run the game on either Win 98 or XP? (When I try to install i just get a message saying I need Win 95/NT.)

Try creating a shortcut to the install path and running it in compatibility mode.

3/19/04 - Broken Wallpaper

I was wondering if you could send me the Top Right hand image in your 'wall paper' folder. I was not able to download it unfortunatly. Could you email it to me?

Link on the site is not fixed and I no longer have the file. Hopefully, soon I'll be able to recover some of the broken links on the site. Because now it's 2007 and you wrote in 2004, I'll just hold off on e-mailing you.

3/16/2004 - Poet and Didn't Know It

Yours is one of the few fan sites for I'76 out there. Mine is one of the others. I just put up audio files for all of the poems that Taurus recites in the game, something visitors to my site's I'76 poem page have been asking for for a long time.

If you could help me get the word out about these audio files, I think a lot of people will be made very happy.

http://www.jeffwofford.com/i76_poems.html

Nice site. I'm definitely happy to find another site that has some good info on I '76. I'm so happy, that I'm linking to you in three different places. Thanks for the e-mail and the heads up.

1/22/04 - 'Rhana

Being in London recently I saw a car with what I thought said Picard on the back, but do not seem able to find any infromation about it on the internet, can you help me

Interstate '76 is a fictional game with fictional cars that were based on their real-life counterparts. Picard isn't actually a real company. Instead it was the game's moniker for Plymouth.
