TUF-Line XP®
Spectra™ Super-braid

An assessment by Ralph Walker

Lots of companies market super-braids based on Spectra™ and/or Dyneema™ HPPE micro-fibres but very few companies actually braid these high-tech, micro-fibre, multi-filament fishing lines — Western Filament is one of the world's leading braiding companies. As well as producing their Own-brand range of braids under the name TUF-Line®, Western Filament braid lines to other specifications for other companies marketing super-braids.

I have been using their TUF-Line® braided fishing lines since they first became available — this is for at least two very good reasons: TUF-Lines perform really really for my lure-fishing applications, and what's more, they are very reasonably priced compared with most other Spectra® or Dyneema® super-braids.

TUF-Line XP
Western Filament's latest offering is TUF-Line® XP which they claim is braided under higher tension, to give a more compact, tightly-woven braid with a smaller diameter, BS for BS, than their previous TUF-Line®. XP is available in yellow or green and in a who;e range of spool capacities, of which, 150 yd and 300 yd are probably the most popular.
Although I can see its advantages for some applications, I'm not a big user of yellow lines, green being the colour of my choice.

Editor's Note:
Please note, this is scheduled to be a 3-part review i.e. 1) Out-of-the-box impressions 2) On-the-bank first impressions and 3) Independent Laboratory Test Results.

Unfortunately, due to staff holidays at the Laboratory we use for our Technical Tackle Testing, the results on TUF-Line XP have been temporarily delayed; once we receive them, we can include them with Ralph's on-the-bank findings. (Sorry about this, Ralph)
