When I left school in 1969 I had two major ambitions. The first was to become a journalist; I didn't. The second was to
marry Peter Noone of 'Hermans Hermits'; I didn't.
I thought this was a pretty crappy start to my adult life and determined
never to think about either ambition ever again, so you can imagine my surprise when,in 1991,I accidentally discovered that
I was a writer, followed by the harrowing realisation that I was also a poet; this came as a big suprise because until then
I had no inkling of this.
In February 2000 I moved from the Scottish Borders back to the city where I grew up, Bradford, West Yorkshire and made contact
with a writers group, Interchange (Bradford Writers Network) which, literally, changed my life; mainly because the encouragement
I received from members of that group.
Since then I have performed regularly at Interchange events, was a featured guest at The Melborn, White Abbey Road, Bradford,
and have even performed as a featured poet at the world famous Austin International Poetry Festival in Texas, USA in April
2001. I was also a featured poet at The San Antonio International Poetry Festival and at Georgetown, Smithville, Bastrop and
Temple and at lots of venues in and around Austin and, believe me, it was a mind-blowing experience. I have recorded a CD
of my work, published 6 chapbooks, been published in 12 anthologies, appeared on the radio and television and until recently
I hosted the regular monthly Interchange performance event; I mean, how lucky can one person be?
Not many people can make a living out of writing poetry, and I'm one of them, so if you feel terribly sorry for me, or if
you like my poetry why don't you order one of my books, or even my first spoken word recording,
'Words Across the Pond' (email for details; lynette54uk@yahoo.co.uk)
I hope you enjoy my work.
(I still haven't married Peter Noone though!)
