Mark Evans was born in Carmarthen, South Wales and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio, London. Mark has performed a wide range of roles with companies including Scottish Opera, British Youth Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, Holland Park Festival Opera, International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival company, English Touring Opera, English National Opera and Welsh National Opera. His roles for these companies have included Marullo Rigoletto, Baron Puck La Grand Duchesse De Gerolstein, Figaro Le Nozze di Figaro, Marcello / Schaunard La Boheme, Dr. Falke Die Fledermaus, Doctor Malatesta Don Pasquale, Papageno The Magic Flute, Marsk in the British Premiere of Drot og Marsk (Heise), Masetto Don Giovanni, Guglielmo Cosi fan Tutte and Silvio I Pagliacci, Don Don Giovanni, Cox Cox and Box, Captain Corcoran HMS Pinafore, Giuseppe The Gondoliers. In August 1998 Mark joined English National Opera to cover the role of Montano in Verdi's Otello and most recently returned there to cover the title role in the new (2001) production of Don Giovanni. Parallel to his operatic career, Mark also appears regularly in concerts and oratorios throughout Britain and Europe. His repertoire ranges from Bach to Britten and engagements have included The Welsh Association of Male Voice Choirs at the Royal Albert Hall and more recently his debut in Carmina Burana at St John's Smith Square London. Mark captivated US Audiences last year with his portrayal of the naive bird catcher Papageno in Mozart's Magic Flute for Columbia Artists USA. More recently he recorded the role of Sadik in the UK premiere of Philosopher's Stone for Radio 3. Mark has recently returned from New York where he represented Britain's operatic and classical music scene at the UKinNY festival of British Excellence in New York. Forthcoming engagements include a series of Puccini galas across the UK, and appearances as guest soloist with the Manchester Camerata and in an Opera Gala at the National Concert Hall, Dublin in December.
