The Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Yeomanry was formed in 1961 by the amalgamation of the Bedfordshire Yeomanry, then a Light Regiment and the Hertfordshire Regiment, at the time a Field Regiment of the Royal Artillery. The Regiment thus formed continued in the field artillery role until the far-reaching reorganisation of the reserve forces in 1967. The number of artillery units in the new Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve was to be only a fraction of those in the Territorial Army but the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Yeomanry was fortunate in being called upon to provide one of the new medium batteries. The battery thus formed was designated 201 (Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Yeomanry) Medium Battery and was part of 100th Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery (Volunteers). The regiment with three Yeomanry Batteries recruited throughout the South East of England.
The bands on parade were the Band of the Royal Regiment of Artillery and Pipes and Drums of 40 Regiment, Royal Artillery.
