I looked out of the window first thing this morning and I was looking forward to a nice warm couple of hours watching football! Well it was certainly sunny but boy was it cold!!  We all turned up ready for the 10 o'clock kick off and hung around until after 10.30 anyway! Mike and Dermot had no need to work out their subsititutions as once again we were low on numbers. In fact,  this morning we were down to the Magnificent Seven you seen on the left! Jonathan was pleased to see some grass in the goalmouth, a nice change from the last outing at Pontprennau! If nothing else he should keep reasonably dry this morning! Welcome back to Ewan who has been sorely missed on recent Saturdays! Happy Birthday to Declan who was 11 yesterday!

Game one was against Whitchurch who always provide a stern test! The first half saw the Eagles playing down the slope and a fiercely competitive game soon developed. Even though our lads defended well and saw more chances at goal it was no surprise that the first half finished with the score at 0-0. Playing up the slope in the second half the Eagles pressed and pressed only to be denied by excellent Whitchurch defending. Eventually, however, the continued pressure told and a finely taken chance by Aaron proved decisive. The rest of the game was equally competitive but no more goals were scored and the lads finished 1-0 victors.


Game two saw us play Les Croupier for only the second time, the previous game finished 1-1 on a very small pitch at Llandaff Fields. Before half time the lads had taken complete control with Aaron, Niall (2) and Declan scoring early on. At half time the score was 4-0 and the game looked over. Les Croupiers came out roaring in the second half and deservedly gained an early goal. Even after Niall finished off his hat trick our opponents did not let their heads drop and again deserved their consolation goal near the end. The game finished 6-2 with the Eagles dominant but with Les Croupier never giving up.


Game three saw us play Heol Hir who had a sizalbe squad and who showed  a lot of determination to get some sort of result against the Eagles for the first time. The lads took an early lead through Aaron but were pulled back to 1-1 when a long speculative effort from the Heol Hir midfield found the net. Aaron again produced a  piece of magic to take the Eagles into a 2-1 half time lead but soon into the second half a  poor clearance led Heol Hir to obtain parity soon after the restart with a long ball returned towards goal. With only two minutes to go the Heol Hir attack outnumbered the defence 4 to 2 and took the lead with a well taken goal and things looked bleak for the lads! However, on countless occasions in the past the lads have shown that Marlboro steel when needed and sure enought right at the death Aaron completed a deserved hatrick to take the score to 3-3. Even then the lads tried to press for the winner but the game finished with honours even!
