Our heroes entered the Pentyrch five-a-side tournament today and what a day it was! First a word about the weather! We seem to have had a lot of bad luck with the weather this season and since we experienced a week or so of glorious sunshine we thought our luck had changed and that we would be slapping the sun cream on for this fine tournament expertly organised by Pentyrch! AS IF!!!!!!!!
We should have guessed! It rained all day! The heavy drizzle fell incessantly and became even heavier at the end! So heavy that my photos of the final came out all blurred!! Try as I might, I could not keep the lens dry!
But what about our football? Our lads entered the Under 9s section as all the squad qualified for this age group. The wonderful Marlboro spirit shone though even if the sun refused to! We witnessed some heroic performances in the group games against Inter Cardiff, Splott and Two Pentyrch sides. The last two games saw a 10-0 victory followed by a 5-0 !! This meant we qualified for the semi-final as group runners up and played the winners of the other group. The semi final was played at break neck pace and our heroes continued their winning ways by going through 2-0 against Capital Trucks. Unfortunately the final proved a step to far and after going down 2-0 in the first half we were defeated 3-1. Never mind! Each of our players deservedly went home with a trophy as a momento of a thoroughly exciting day! Well done lads and a big thank you to Mike and Dermot for arranging things (even if we did get all wet)! Well done too to all the mums, dads. brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties and all others who braved yet more terrible conditions to lend vital support to our splendid football team!
