Plain Spoken Thought

"Womb Words" by Vanessa Marsh

Plain Spoken Thought

Neville has long had theories,
He tells me now,
"Women are bound to deny the womb,
Commensurate with childhood misery
And post-industrial malaise."
Silvery curls bob to emphasize,
He sips wine from a stone cup.
"And this?"
I unbutton to show the brown circle of a nipple:
The waiter stares.
