The M & C Collection of Historic Motorcycles  is situated near to the centre of Bakewell in the beautiful Peak District of Derbyshire. The collection has been put together by Peter Mather & Phil Crosby (M & C) and has about 50 motorcycles on display ranging from the mundane 'get-you-to-work' bikes through to the exotic sports tourers; from trials bikes and scramblers to speedway & racing machines. The Collection is intended to reflect the development of the motorcycle from 1900 to the 1970's mainly in the British Motorcycle industry although it is not confined solely to British Bikes. The purpose of opening this display is two-fold, firstly that visitors may simply enjoy seeing the machines and, secondly, that a local charity might benefit from any proceeds received.  Both Peter and Phil are volunteer drivers for Bakewell and Eyam Community Transport, a registered charity operating wheelchair accessible minibuses for the community in the Peak National Park, and this is the subject for their 'Motorcycles for Charity' project.

Now commencing its eleventh year of opening the collection has raised well over £50,000 for B & E C T as well as several thousand pounds for other charities including The Indian Railway Children project and funds to facilitate sailing for the disabled.

To compliment the motorcycles, a fascinating array of motor and motorcycling memorabilia is displayed providing a  'walk down memory lane'  for those who can remember, and, for the younger generation, an insight into 'days gone by'. The memorabilia represents 'collections within the collection' and the 100 or so early transport enamel signs are of especial interest. Also oil cans, lights and badges are fascinating to all.

For those  who have previously visited the M & C (some many times) and for those of you who will come for the first time, the 2009 season commences with the New Year openings, and then Easter Saturday, 11th April 2009 continuing on Easter Sunday and Monday. (See Opening Dates for full details.)

New for 2009. A superb A.J.S. 7R racing machine is new this season and the approach to the collection has been improved and made more interesting with new items of nostalgia and memorabilia.

Many enthusiasts saw two M&C machines at the Festival of a Thousand Bikes 2008 at Mallory Park when the 4 cylinder F.N. and another 4 cylinder, the Nimbus, did several laps of the circuit, as well as the Vintage Motorcycle Club's 1902 Dreadnought which remains with us for the time being.
