Player Profiles 2003/2004 Season.
Manager:
Jamie Anderson
The 'Gaffer', former player and Mc Laughlins
Legend, Jamie has been involved with the club since near enough
day one.
As a player he owned the center-back position and was formidable
presence during the 90s. He was one of the teams dead ball
specialists and most famously introduced the sliding tackle to German
football.
He has seen the highs and lows with the team and have played with or
managed over 200 players during his time. In his spare time he is
a proud member of the "Tartan Army" and is known to pull on the
kilt now and again.
Aballea,
Christian
Christain is
Mc Laughlins French midfielder. Typically he is excellent on the
ball and has a good turn of pace. He has been known to score the
odd free kick and is one of the gentlemen of the team.
Aretxabala,
Iker
AIker
Aretxabala is our Spanish player who arrived last December taking over
the job, flat, car, mobile phone of Ingo who has moved back to
Spain. Plays in midfield but his job sends him all over northern
and eastern Europe so like many other players he cannot play very
often. Derives from the Basque country as you can tell of his
accent and doesn't mind a drink or two.
Asiimwe, Francis

Midfielder who hails all the way from Uganda.
Francis joined the team in the last half of the year and has been a
good addition to the squad. Possesses a great touch and is a
really stylish player. Famous for turning up at Mc Laughlins for
his first game and having a pint of Guinness before we went. Only
good players can do this.
Buchanen,
Gordon
<<no picture available>>
"Gorddy" is one of the longest serving members of the
team having played with the team for years and is the captain of the
team. One of the regulars in the team who can operate at the back
or in midfield. Dependable and hardworking he also weighs in with
his fair share of goals. Recognised as one of the best players
ever to play for Mc Laughlins, Gorddy is a vital part of the team.
Butcher,
Zac
<<no
picture available>>
Zac
is one of the new members of the team and made his debut in the second
half of this season, unfortunately after one appearance he picked up an
injury and has not been able to play since. He can be
regularly found in Mc Laughlins after the game and promises to make a
big impact next season.
Camara,
Ousman
<<no
picture available>>
Ousman
is the teams top goalscorer and has a prolific record in the league and
cup. He has a great touch for a big man and his pace has scared
most defenses this season. He possesses great natural ability and
he should be playing at a higher level. Holds the record of
scoring more goals for Mc Laughlins than any other player. The
big man will leave the team shortly and he will be difficult to replace.
Cole, Del
<<no
picture available>>
Mc
Laughlins version of "Vinny Jones" Del is a
dependable no-nonsence defender. Operates at center-half and is
strong in the tackle and a great organiser at the back. Del is
also known to have a collection of souvenir red cards at home, he
likes to collect three or four every season.
Dagdag, Rachid
<<no
picture available>>
Rachid has been in the team for about a year and a half but
hasn't been able to play for a while. Rachid is of Tunisian
parents but born in France. He likes to play in midfield but
unfortunately due to an abundance of players in this position he has
not been able to command a regular place. Probably better in
defense but it is not his favorite position on the field.
Donegan, Paul
Paul is
probably one of the fittest members of the
team. He is a ninety minute player who gives everything he has in
each game. Possesses a great touch and is a good distributor of
the ball. Due to work commitments Paul will not be able to play
next session, he will be sorely missed on and off the field.
Fallah, Khalil
<<no
picture available>>
Tunisian
striker, Khalil is a very skillful player who has
a great turn of pace. Capable of scoring goals from anywhere on
the pitch. One of the leading members of the Mc Laughlins after
match drinking session, in other words likes a beer.
Glendenning,
Mark
<<no
picture available>>
In our desperate search for a goalkeeper I was fooled by Mark who while
I was talking to him in the Pub one told me he was a goalkeeper.
"Brilliant" I said "we need a goalkeeper for the pub team". I'll
be there for the next match" he replied.
The result was a disaster. He turned up for our cup match and
although the score was still 0-0 at half time the match ended up after
the team playing very well and mark letting in 6 or seven soft goals in
a 6-8 defeat after extra time. Mark never ever played for Mc
Laughlin's again.
Hegarty,
Gavin
Gavin, is another one of
the Irish lads who joined in the club during the second half of the
season. A midfielder who has put in most of his appearances at
the back, he wins his fair share and is comfortable on the ball.
Jones,
Robert
<<no
picture available>>
Rob Jones is a long serving player. He has played for
Mclaughlins' for about 6-7 years. Started of as a striker but we
soon found out that he is allot better in the back four. He has
recently become a Daddy, this in addition to his work commitments
means that he cannot play for us as often as he would like
anymore. Still he was in the team when Mc Laughlin's were
struggling (the same goes for Nigel, Gordon and myself). Has
probably put in over 200 appearances for Mc Laughlin's and he is also
the organizer of Tuesdays training sessions as it goes somehow through
his works QVC.
Kelly, Peter
Pete is
another one of the regulars in the squad and for good reason. He
is one of Mc Laughlins utility players and can basically play anywhere
in the defense of midfield. He is composed on the ball and never
lets the team down on the pitch or in the pub.
Markey, Frank
Frankie is
another member of the Scottish contingent. Operates mainly from
full back but has been known to be seen flying down the right flank now
and again. A good lad to have on the team, he is one of the
people to keep the team calm when the pressure is on.
Meyer,
Nne
<<no
picture available>>
A young German lad born in
Kenya. Maybe the best barmen in the pub certainly the
tallest. Injured himself in a match last October and is only now
getting back to fitness. Likes to play at the back and is getting
ready for another season.
Monaghan, Steve
Steve is our
Yorkshire representative and hails all the way from Leeds. A
real old fashioned goalscorer with a great eye for goal. Always
in a position to take the ball and is great at bringing other players
into the game. Good for a goal any game. With the exception
of Ousman, one
of the leading goal scorers this season.
Reid, Nigel
Nigel is
another of the Mc Laughlins Legends. Nigel has been regularly
heard saying that he cant play ninety minutes any longer, but he is one
of the fittest players on the team, who else does 50 press ups before a
game. "Nig" is a left sided player who is strong in the
tackle and likes to get up and down the wing. One of the leaders
of the team and always looking for a win.
Riordan, Dave
Dave is a very skilful winger from
Dublin. Possesses excellent close control and is a good
distributor of the ball. Probably did not get as much of the ball
as he would have liked this season but is always a threat on either
wing.
Seery,
Phil
<<no
picture available>>
The John Motson of Dusseldorf,
Phil is out raving reporter who's job has not allowed him to play as
much as he would have liked this year. A solid center-half and
knows how to tackle. Has been missed during the second half of
the session.
Shodra,
Bujar
Bujar or Bulli as he prefers to be called comes
from Kosovo. Since joining the team in December he usually plays
center half(another one). He is great in the air and strong in
the tackle. Bulli studys here and will be finished in 2-3
years. Seldom in the pub but his English is good or better than
my Albanian.
Stuart,
Alastair
Ally Stuart is a tall Scottish lad who likes to
play in defense. One of the boys from the army base living in
Düsseldorf. Has to make frequent trips back to Scotland and
due to this has not yet quite broken in to the team yet. Another
one of our nononsense defenders.
Tholel, Hardwich
Hardy, what can we
say? Hardy is Mc Laughlins goalkeeper, right-back, left back,
midfielder, who is in charge or making sure everyone turns up for the
game on time and the person, who likes to socialize into the early
hours, who organized this website and the pictures. Hardy is the
type of person every team needs, he helps ensure the team is organized
and is a committed player on the field. He will play in any
position to help the team win. One other thing, Hardy is not the
most "referee friendly" player ever,,,,,,he could write a book about
getting booked and being sent off :-).
Touré,
Seydou
Our second French
speaking African. Seydou is from Sengal and is studying in
Düsseldorf. Good right sided payer who has lots of skill and has
an
eye for goal. Doesn't drink, smoke or see women. His English is not too
good or he's hiding it from us. Hope he'll be around for a while.
Urbanek, Peter
<<no
picture available>>
Peter is
our Austrian representative. A strong and determined full-back
who never lets you down. A regular in the team for most of the
season but due to work commitments missed the last few games of the
season
Weil, Stefan
<<no
picture available>>
Another German who is able to play in many positions including striker,
center half and goalkeeper. Rather a quiet lad but he likes a drink now
and again. A very busy
Vodafone employee and unfortunately rarely time to play now.
Alan Smith
<<no
picture available>>
Probably the most famous former/current team member. Certainly the
oldest player at almost
50 to represent the club with unbelievable fitness.
Devastating finisher - patented the step over before being copied by
Zinedine Zidane. Feisty Geordie who took issue with one or two refs in
his time.

Cathil Murry
<<no
picture available>>
Former
McLaughlins bar manager who doubled as the team cat. Safe hands unless
the previous night had been particularly heavy.

Terry Kiely
<<no
picture available but call into Mc Laughlins and meet the man in
person>>
Another reliable performer
between the sticks with an unfortunate knack of breaking something
(opponent or bones) each time he played. Has since retired to the
safety of the McLaughlins bar

Willie Vassey
<<no
picture available>>
Uncompromising Scottish left
back who left his mark(s) on a number of promising right wingers.

Sean Gallacher
<<no
picture available>>
Candidate for best player ever
to wear the jersey. Midfield maestro with fearsome shot and tremendous
fitness. Tall, athletic with similar ability as Paul Donegan - former
captain of the team.

Tom Brady
<<no
picture available>>
Possibly the most talented
player of the 90's. Allegedly Liam Brady's nephew, this English
midfielder's distribution and will to win was awesome. Somewhat poor
disciplinary record due to a tremendous left hook. Only Mc Laughlins's
player to
have a joint rather than a cup of tea / orange at half
time.

Neil X (surname Jamie ?)
<<no
picture available>>
Left-sided Irish midfielder
who could have graced the Premiership. Incredible pace plus tremendous
ball skills. One of the ever present midfield unit (+
Brady/Buchanan/Gallacher) who guided us to the Cup Final in 1996.

Hugh Burden
<<no
picture available>>
Long serving left sided player
with a fine goal scoring record. Has since moved on to London.

Takayuki Ono
<<no
picture available>>
One of the very few Japanese
players to play for the team. His lack of height was
more than matched by a determination to win. Impressive Guinness
consumption..
