Gartside Handel: Actor: Harry Markham 1970-76 Local who made his fortune in Canada then returned to his roots. Became Minnie Caldwell's friend and part time lodger. When she left the Street it was to housekeep for him. ·· top ··
Sharon Gaskell: Actor: Tracie Bennett 1982-84 The Faircloughs' foster daughter who fell in love with Brian Tilsley and left the Street when he spurned her. She became a kennel maid in Sheffield but returned to comfort Rita after Len's death. ·· top ··
Edna Gee: Actor: Mavis Rogerson 1971-75 Fred Gee's flirtatious first wife and Ivy Tilsley's best friend. With Ivy she worked at the mail order warehouse and it was there that she died in 1975, engulfed in flames by the fire that gutted the building. ·· top ··
Eunice Gee: Actor: prev. Nuttall 1981-82 Fred Gee's second wife whom he married in order to gain tenancy of a pub. It all fell through when the brewery discovered Eunice had once been suspected of theft. For a while the Gees ran the Community Centre, but it was not long until Eunice ran off with a counsellor. The Gees divorced. ·· top ··
Fred Gee: Actor: Fred feast 1976-84 The Rovers' resident potman, Annie Walker employed him after he had been made redundant as a storeman. As well as keeping the cellar, Fred acted as Annie's chauffeur and manservant. After his wife Edna's death in 1975, Fred turned his eye on the local ladies, dating Vera Duckworth. To impress Audrey Potter he bought a wig, but threw it away when all the residents laughed at him. In a bid to win his own pub, he married Eunice Nuttall in 1981 but she had a bad record at the brewery, and they were refused a pub. After divorcing Eunice he took over the Rovers, temporarily, and was eventually sacked by Billy Walker. He was then employed by Mike Baldwin to drive a delivery van, but again was sacked after he posed as Mike in a crooked deal. ·· top ··
Alec Gilroy: Actor: Roy Barraclough 1972-92 One-time theatrical agent, those on his books included Rita Littlewood and Megan Morgan. He ran the Graffiti Club in 1986, before marrying Bet Lynch and taking on the licence of the Rovers Return in 1987. Alec's first wife, Joyce, had run away with a footballer taking their daughter Sandra with her. In 1990, Alec found Sandra again and met his grand daughter Victoria for the first time. A year later Sandra and her husband Tim Arden were killed in a car crash and Vicky became Alec's ward. In 1992, Alec left the Rovers and Bet to take a job organising entertainment on cruise-liners in Southampton. ·· top ··
Bet Gilroy, Nee Lynch: Actor: Julie Goodyear 1966- Born and bred in Weatherfield, Bet Lynch became pregnant at sixteen and was forced to have her son, Martin, adopted. He tracked her down nineteen years later, by which time she was working as a barmaid at the Rovers Return. Martin was so upset to see her flirting with the customers he left the pub without introducing himself to her. A year later she received the news that he had been killed in a car crash. After Martin's birth, Bet gained the reputation of being easy and willing. She has been used and then let down by many of the streets men including Len Fairclough, Mike Baldwin, Eddie Yeats and Jack Duckworth. Bet started work at the Rovers in 1970 after working in various shops, factories and managing a launderette. After fifteen years of working for Annie Walker, Bet took on the Rovers as manageress. A year later, in June 1986, she nearly lost the pub, as well as her life, when a fire gutted the pub. She married Alec Gilroy in September 1987. Five years later Alec went to live in Southampton. Bet fell for Charlie Whelan but he ran off with Tanya Pooley. ·· top ··
David Graham: Actor: Roger Adamson 1964 Disturbed art teacher who fell in love with model Elsie Tanner and threatened to kill her when she tried to break with him. ·· top ··
Dr Graham: Actor: Fulton McKay 1961 The residents' doctor. He caused a panic when he dropped a box of pills on the Street which were found by Lucille Hewitt who mistook them for sweets. ·· top ··
Jimmy Graham: Actor: Colin George 1974 Property developer who had an affair with Rita Littlewood. He promised to leave his wife Muriel, he passed Rita off as a client. Rita ditched him. ·· top ··
Dot Greenhalgh: Actor: Joan Francis 1961-69 Elsie Tanner's best mate and fellow good-time girl. Together they entertained the Yanks during the Second World War and then again when the GI Gregg Flint. Elsie took her in at No.11 and together they worked at Miami Modes. Their friendship ended when Dot let Elsie take the blame for some shoplifting she had indulged in. ·· top ··
George Greenwood: Actor: Arthur Pentilow 1968-71 Park-keeper with whom Hilda Ogden had platonic relationship. He judged the flower show where Stan tried to win with an orchid. Unfortunately for him, George recognised it as one stolen from the park. ·· top ··
Bill Gregory: Actor: Jack Watson 1961-84 Chief Petty Officer who had an affair with Elsie Tanner. She finished with him when she discovered he was married. He returned when his wife Phyllis had died and proposed to Elsie, but she chose to marry Alan Howard. In 1983 Bill returned to Weatherfield, and was surprised to find Elsie still in the Street. He persuaded her to help him run his wine bar on the Algarve. ·· top ··
Maud Grimes: Actor: Elizabeth Bradley 1993- Maureen's mother and onetime beau of Percy Sugden's. Percy broke off their engagement when he found out Maureen's father was a GI that Maud had had a fling with whilst her husband Wilfred was fighting in the war. She runs the shop with Maureen and puts up with her son-in-law, Reg Holdsworth. ·· top ··

May Hardman: Actor: Joan Heath 1960 Original occupant of No. 13, May was Chistine Appleby's mother. In December 1960 she returned home after a spell in a mental hospital following a breakdown. On New Year's Eve she died of a brain tumour. ·· top ··
Frank Harvey: Actor: Nick Stringer 1984-85 Relief manager who ran the Rovers between Annie Walker and Bet Lynch. He was rejected by Bet but was successful with Gloria Todd. ·· top ··
Nellie Harvey: Actor: Mollie Sugden 1965-76 Landlady of the Laughing Donkey, and Annie Walker's social rival. Jack Walker was her old dancing partner and he introduced her to Annie. In 1974 she threatened to drag Annie through the courts when her husband Arthur declared his love for Annie and left home. ·· top ··
Esther Hayes: Actor: Daphne Oxenford 1960-72 Quiet, intellectual spinster Esther rented No.5 before moving to a modern flat in Moor lane in 1962. In 1963 Esther moved to Scotland but often popped back to the street for weddings and funerals. ·· top ··
Tom Hayes: Actor: Dudley Foster 1961 Esther's conman brother who lived with her for a month following his release from prison. He left the area because no one wanted to invest in his schemes. ·· top ··
Harry Hewitt: Actor: Ivan Beavis 1960-67 Bus inspector Harry lived at No.7 with his wayward daughter Lucille and his whippets. In 1961, he married Concepta Riley and their son Christopher was born the following year. Harry was always found propping up the bar of the Rovers with his drinking pal Len Fairclough. The Hewitts left for Ireland in 1964, leaving Lucille to finish her education. Whilst visiting Lucille in September 1967, Harry was crushed to death under Len's van. ·· top ··
Lucille Hewitt: Actor: Jennifer Moss 1960-74 Lucille grew up on the Street. Following her mother Elizabeth's death in 1959, Lucille was placed in an orphanage but left there when her father Harry married Concepta Riley. Lucille was heavily influenced by the 1960s pop scene and ran the Brett Falcoln fan club. After leaving grammar school she drifted through various jobs - in factories, a laboratory, shops, a turf accountant's, a fashion boutique and behind the bar of the Rovers return. Lucille moved into the Rovers as the Walkers' ward when the Hewitts moved to Ireland in 1964. In the 1970s she did all she could to shock her Auntie Annie at the pub, taking a job as a go-go dancer and setting up home with a married man, Danny Burrows. In 1969 she came close to marrying Gorden Clegg, but he jilted her just a week before the ceremony. When Gorden returned to the area in 1974 Lucille was so upset she went to stay with Concepta in Ireland. She never returned. ·· top ··
Stuart Hodges: Actor: Vernon Joyner 1964 Lay preacher who took over the Mission from Swindley. the local women attended the sermons just to gaze at him. ·· top ··
Maureen Holdsworth Prev. Naylor: Prev. Naylor Actor: Sherrie Hewson 1993 - In January 1994, Maureen married her sweetheart of twenty-five years, Reg Holdsworth. In 1968 they had been separated by her interfering mother Maud Grimes and Maureen had then married Frank Naylor who treated her badly. Following her divorce from Frank, Maureen met Reg again when she took a job at Bettabuy supermarket where he was manager. After their marriage, she took over the running of their shop on Coronation Street. ·· top ··
Reg Holdsworth: Actor: Ken Morley 1989- Supermarket boss Reg moved into No. 12 Coronation Street, along with his waterbed, in 1991. His wife Veronica threw him out accusing him of an affair with Rita Fairclough, but Rita always spurned his advances. In 1994 Reg married Maureen Naylor after fighting off her mother. The same year, having resigned from Bettabuy, he opened Holdworths Provisions on Coronation Street but then joined the Firmans Freezer company. ·· top ··
Idris Hopkins: Actor: Richard Davies 1974-75 Welsh Idris worked at the local foundry during the day while his wife Vera rowed with his mother Megan. ·· top ··
Granny Megan, Hopkins: Actor: Jesse Evans 1974-75 Idris's domineering mother. She ran a chip show for years following husband Cledwin's death and before renting the Corner Shop with Idris' wife, Vera. Megan wanted to buy the shop so much she tried to blackmail Gordon Clegg into letting her have it cheap. The plan backfired and Gordon saw them off. ·· top ··
Tricia Hopkins: Actor: Kathy Jones 1973-76 Youngest of the Hopkin clan. She persuaded the family to rent the Corner Shop so she could be near her idol, Ray Langton. Tricia worked at the Mark Britain warehouse along with Gail Potter with whom she rented the shop flat. After the warehouse fire in which she narrowly escaped death - Tricia ran the shop for Gordon. When Renee Bradshaw bought the shop, she made it clear that she did not want Tricia around, so Tricia left. ·· top ··
Vera Hopkins: Actor: Kathy Staff 1973-75 Committee member at the Community Centre, Vera was well known in Coronation Street when the Hopkins took over the Corner Shop in 1974. She left the running of the shop of Megan whilst she nursed her sick mother. When her mother died she inherited a tidy sum and Megan welcomed her back with open arms. She was furious when Megan tried to blackmail Gordon Clegg, and they were all forced out. ·· top ··
Jeff Horten: Actor: Dicken Ashworth 1992-93 Lisa Duckworth's father who did all he could to stop her marrying Terry, and then bought their son Tommy from Terry after Lisa's death. ·· top ··
Alan Howard: Actor: Alan Browning 1969-74 Businessman Alan arrived in the Street to stay with his war years friend Len Fairclough. Len did the building work for him when he opened up a hair salon on Rosamund Street, employing Elsie Tanner as receptionist. Alan threw his money about and impressed the regulars but, shortly after marrying Elsie, he declared himself bankrupt. He upset Elsie by taking money from his ex-wife Laura and by having an affair with Janet Reid. In 1973, the Howards left for his native Newcastle and the marriage split up shortly afterwards. ·· top ··
Mark Howard: Actor: Nicholas Jones 1970 Alan's son from his first marriage. he disliked Elsie and tried to break up the marriage by telling Alan that Elsie was having an affair with Len Fairclough. ·· top ··

Blanche Hunt: Actor: Maggie Jones 1974-81 Deirdre's corset-making mother. She sold her business to run the Corner Shop for Gordon Clegg and nursed Deirdre through her courtships with Billy Walker and Ray Langton. She never approved of Ray as a son-in-law, and was delighted when Deirdre married Ken Barlow. In 1976, she left the area to run a club for her old flame Dave Smith. ·· top ··
