engine `Yahoo', specially designed for children. But it
isn't just a search engine; it offers all kinds of fun
resources and educational materials for children.

`Each week, Barbara
Feldman scours the net looking for the best sites on a
particular topic, such as Leonardo da Vinci, stock market
simulations, the Berlin Wall, ghost stories, venomous
snakes, riddles, ballet--just about anything you can
imagine. This web site is an archive of her well-researched
reviews of the sites. You can also sign up to receive the
free e-mail edition of her newspaper column.'

Other Exhibits, Toys and Games, Movies and TV Shows, and
Web Pages Set Up by (or for) Kids.

Specifically designed for
the Literacy Hour at Key Stage 1, this site includes two
online Big Books, and the opportunity for children to
respond to the books by email. The books can be used by a
group for guided reading and help to develop ICT skills
alongside literacy.
Meet Willie Wonka and the
Oompa Loompas in this exciting and colourful site. The
interactive games are both fun and educational with
varied levels, and can be played online with Shockwave or
downloaded. Topics include science, technology and
animals. Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils studying Roald Dahl's
stories will enjoy this either in the classroom or at
home.
Create images on a blank screen using a variety of
colours in either 'draw' or 'fill' mode. Alternatively,
colour one of the seasonal images provided. A simple
classroom resource, with a festive flavour, for
developing ICT skills and mouse control from Key Stage 1
onwards.
Hop along to the Froggy
Page for an informative, user-friendly and humorous site
devoted to frogs containing scientific information,
sounds, clip art, etc. There are also instructions for
making an origami jumping frog which would be appropriate
for Key Stage 1 and 2 design classes.

Covering everyone from toddlers to schoolkids, Kids
Freebies allows youngsters to go online and experience
the thrill of selecting a program they want, downloading
it, installing it and using it themselves! There are
several different types of programs to choose from,
including games, fun with learning, computer toolboxes
and web page design tools for the younger set. There is
also a great Parents section where Mom and Dad can learn
more about safe surfing and teaching kids safety online. |
