Our curriculum is based on the Devon Curriculum Statement which is an agreed framework of activities through which knowledge is gained, skills are developed and experience is widened.

The requirements of the National Curriculum have formed the basis of our curriculum planning and implementation, i.e. primarily English, Maths and Science, and foundation of Technology, History and Geography, Music, Art and PE. Some of this work is supported by Information Technology. The school is equipped with two computers per unit. Our music sessions cover recorder tuition, instrumental work, tuned and un-tuned, and singing. We value singing very highly as a natural musical activity.

Some of the work done in school is of a cross-curricular nature, most of it in the form of topic or project work. We hope you will become aware of current topics, and will want to be involved in them with your children. We welcome any suggestions or ideas you can offer as we seek to encourage your interest at all times, both at home and within the classroom.

Our teaching methods are a combination of whole class teaching, group work and individual learning.

Religious Education The governors have approved that the Religious Education provided at the school should conform to the Devon Agreed Syllabus. Our daily collective worship times have a Christian basis. We have visits to the school by local clergy and we make visits to local churches. We respect the right of parents to withdraw their child from Religious Education lessons and from collective worship.

The governors have a named committee with responsibilities for handling complaints concerning the curriculum.

Homework Although we may not give homework on a regular basis we encourage all children to borrow books to read at home.

A home/school book is a very valuable form of communication.
