.: Tremors (1990)

.: A small desert town becomes endangered when giant prehistoric worms attack. This flick is Jaws ashore, starring Kevin Bacon (ever played the Kevin Bacon Game?) as a handyman fed up with the towns' little prospects and is city-bound, until he meets an attractive girl who measures earthquakes (I can't spell siesmoligist), who learns of abnormal rumblings - could this somehow be linked to the guy scared shitless, sat dead up a telecom mast?

.: The plot doesn't really go into how the creatures came about and runs off several theories, which are never really concluded, leaving us to assume that they are of a prehistoric origin.
The film bears the essence of the mutant creature feature of the fifties, yet the stereo-types have been updated. My fave characters are the military couple, with balls of steel and a small armory in their house to match.

.: What ensues is a now a cult classic. Wonderfully shot, well scripted, the characters are brilliantly defined and the monsters rely a lot on creating atmosphere through imagination - what you don't see is often scarier that what you do see.
