.: Another mutant creature feature, reminiscent of Them, in this recent film the creatures are manufactured accidentally by human intervention, when a toxic spill creates a super spider steroid. Set in a small desert ex-mining town, where the work is scarce and the residents are threatened by a corporate takeover. Chaos is unleashed when the spiders get a first for blood and pursue a feeding frenzy on the helpless townsfolk.

.: All the trademarks of the genre are here; bumbling law officials, promiscuous teens, backward hillbillies and paranoia that develops a distrust in authority (captured brilliantly by the radio host who warns of alien attacks and government conspiracy, yet disbelieves it when it is really happening).

.: Eight Legged Freaks is a no-holds barred, fun movie, that takes the ideas, that Arachnophobia began, to another level with computerised special effects, enabling a more flexible movement of the monsters. The story is of fairly predictable proportions yet the set pieces allows the movie some edge. The spider weaving effect is damn awesome, if you hate effects films you won't like this. Oh yeah best to avoid if you don't dig spiders!!
