MS PILSUDSKI - MEMORIES

MEMORIES OF MS PILSUDSKI

Help Solve A Wartime Mystery (Hartlepool Mail 21.1.03)
Mr Sewerniak Remembers

Mr. Sewerniak's father was on the Polish Consular staff in Italy before the war. On 15th April 1939 he was in Naples and took his family to visit M/S Pilsudski which was then in harbour. Here Mr. Sewerniak is photographed with his elder sister and his mother with the stern of M/S Pilsudski in the background.

Mr Sewerniak, his sister and mother photographed aboard M/S Pilsudski. Note the classic and distinctive 1930s style uniform of the Cabin Boy who was to take them around the ship.

Commemorative envelope from the maiden voyage of the MS Pilsudski
The black fringed stamp commemorates the then recent death of Marshal Pilsudski and the other two stamps depict the MS Pilsudski itself!

Part of the message on the back of the post card reads:
"Boat is perfect... ...Accomodation surprisingly good,
boat very modern & food excellent."
- 24th July 1938

This Album, with signatures of the Captains and members of the crew and passengers of both M/S Pilsudski and M/S Batory, was collected by a young girl from Pittsburgh PA – Mary Alice Crawford. The page in the photo carries the signature of “Mamert Stankiewicz, Captain of M/S Pilsudski, June 21st 1936”.

The ship's seal.

This propelling pencil with a "floating" image of the ship comes from MS Batory. It carries the GAL company logo so it's pre 1950 and could be pre-war. Anyone know of a similar item from MS Pilsudski.
