September 2004

This year has been one of my busiest ever, as I have been workshop manager on the visual effects model unit of the new Batman movie. Despite the lack of updates to my site, I have been out and taken quite a few images, but much of what little spare time I have had has been taken up by the demand for my photographs, so I have not been quite as prolific as I would have liked.

Titchwell via the Welney area has generally been the first choice when I have been out, simply because I can always rely on getting some good images at these places, the Bar-tailed godwit above and the Curlew Sandpiper below were taken there.

Welney can be a bit hit and miss but usually has Barn Owls to point the big lens at, but it was the Little Stint shown below that stole the show for me on one visit.

Often coming to close to focus it was a real treat after some weeks of zero birding.

'Sammy' the Black-winged Stilt has now entered his twelfth year at Titchwell, he must be the UK's most photographed bird, I have yet to get the archetypal image of him, but I was pleased with the shots here.

Tawny Owls are always high on my list to spend some time with too, on one night Steve Blain and I managed to see 23 of them!

This Wren's nest was in a very busy hide, the parents busily feeding their brood just above the heads of many birders who were quite oblivious of the hungry family above their heads.
