Summer round-up

Its been a bit of a mad 10 weeks since I last updated the diary page, this quickly brings everything up to date, birding has taken a back seat as I have been working on a documentary for Channel 4, I will tell more about this at a later date, whether it will be a first step to small screen stardom or just me making a twit of myself for all to see I am not sure.

I did manage to get up to Spurn for the Great Spotted Cuckoo though, a very nice colourful immature bird that showed very well on and off for about a week

A lunchtime dash to Tring secured the Least Sandpiper, but I would have liked to get some better images of it, sadly I was to busy to get back for more.

The end of the job was celebrated (by me anyway) with a manic dash up to North Uist for the Snowy Owl that has taken residence in Greinetobht bay 7 miles north of Lochmaddy, click the picture for more. Nick Sampford and I spent getting on for a day with this bird, the third I have seen in the UK but the first that I have managed to photograph.

After such an intensive spell of work I had a fair amount of paperwork etc to catch up with, not least was a mountain of print orders. With all the chores caught up with and a spell of fine weather forecast I was soon out birding again, this Red-necked Phalarope at Kings Lynn willingly gave itself up for the camera.
