I suspect that Malcolm's great, great, great.... grand mother didn't run quickly enough when the Norse invaders first came to Lewis - he's a bit blond. To this day that's why Scots like their first foot - the first person to come into their house in a new year - to be dark haired. If they were dark then they were a Celt and no danger. However, if they were blond they could be a Viking and they might kill you - that's the sort of thing that could spoil your year before it's had a chance to start.
