CALENDAR MAKING For Nascar Sim's

How to Edit Your Race Calendar

Everyone is asking on how they can add a new race or a new track to their race calendar. Or how can they change the number of laps in a 100% run race. Well, hopefully this page will answer some (or all) of those questions. I will go step by step each part of each line. And by the time I am done, you will be able to easily edit or even create your own new calendar. So lets take a look at a typical short calendar.
The easiest way to view a calendar is to go to Windows Explorer and go into any of the Nascar racing Sim directories folder and look for a file that has the extention of .CAL such as Nascar.cal. Now, either double click it and it will open with the use of notepad or you can use word pad or any other program in which you can edit text with.

Below is a short calendar that you may encounter:

SNAME NASCAR_Craftsman_Truck_99
1 3 20 0 0 HOMESTD Florida_Dodge_Dealers_400 Florida_Dodge_Dealers_400 167 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
2 3 19 0 0 PHOENIX Chevy_Trucks_NASCAR_150 Chevy_Trucks_NASCAR_150 150 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
3 4 03 0 0 EVERGRN NAPACARD_200 NAPACARD_200 200 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
4 4 10 0 0 MESA Dodge_California_Truck_Stop_300 Dodge_California_Truck_Stop_300 300 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
5 4 17 0 0 MRTNSVIL NAPA_250 NAPA_250 250 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
6 5 08 0 0 MEMPHIS Memphis_200 Memphis_200 200 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
7 5 16 1 0 PIKE NAPA_300K NAPA_300K 200 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
8 5 22 1 1 I70 Kansas_City_200 Kansas_City_200 200 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
9 6 05 0 0 NBRISTOL Loadhandler_250 Loadhandler_250 250 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
10 6 11 1 0 TEXAS Pronto_Auto_Parts_400 Pronto_Auto_Parts_400 167 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx
11 12 99 0 0 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now, this is just a selection of a few races that you may run in any Nascar Racing Simulation. All of the racing sims versions use the same format in creating the calendars for quick races or in a championship series. You will notice that the first line begins with the following:

SNAME NASCAR_Craftsman_Truck_99

This is the name that you will use for the calendar. In this case the title used is the "Nascar Craftsman Truck 99". You are to always use the "SNAME" at the beginning of the line. In between each word you are to use the underscore ("_") . But don't worry. When you see the race calendar in the game it will not show the underscore. You can change any present calendar that you have in the sim game to any title you wish or create an all new calendar for the over-the-modem season such as Mike and Mine. It would look something like this: "SNAME Mike_and_Mine".

Now you will notice that each line is numbered and is in numerical order. Always setup your races in this manner. If you add a race or new track to the calendar; always redo the sequence order of the races. Let's say that you add Daytona in as the fourth race of the season. Just make it as the one which starts with #4 and the original #4 will become #5 and so-on. Now lets take the first race and take it apart to see how it works.

example #1
1 3 20 0 0 HOMESTD Florida_Dodge_Dealers_400 Florida_Dodge_Dealers_400 167 event5.pcx biglogo5.pcx

The number "1" is the first race of the season (da). Ok, that was simple. The "3 20" tell you the month and day of the month of that race. The "0 0" play an important part of the calendar in that they say how many times you race at that track and whether it is a night race or not. In the case of a night race at Charlotte Motor Speedway; the second "0" would be a "1". If this is the second race in the year at a particular track then the first "0" will be a "1". Look at the following example to help make this a little more clear to ya:

example #2

07 3 20 0 1 NMRTNSVIL My_Race_400 My_Race_400 375 event1.pcx biglogo1.pcx
24 8 27 1 1 MRTNSVIL My_Race_500 My_Race_500 425 event2.pcx biglogo2.pcx

Now, both of these race would be run a Martinsville Raceway. The first one is the seventh race of the season with is held on March 20 and the second race is the 24th of the season and is on August 27. The first one is a night race which is signified by the second "0" being a "1" and the second race is identified by the first "0" being a "1". But you may have noticed that the names after the numbers are different because one starts with the letter "N". This tells the game to look into the directory for the night race of Martinsville for all the needed info and graphics. If the name does not have the "N" first; then it should not be a night race and the identifying number should be a "0".
The next text is the name used for the race. In example #1, the name of this particular race is the "Florida Dodge Dealers 400". Notice that each word is separated by that pesky underscore. You have to enter the title of the race 2 times. The "400" tells you how many laps are in the race. The last part of the line is the event and biglogo commands. If you look into the directories of any of the tracks you can see files labeled Biglogo1 or Biglogo2 and event 1 and event2. These are the event and logo banners displayed in the game. These are pcx formats and can be viewed in any painting program such as Coral Paint or Paint Shop Pro.

Well, that is it. If you thought that this was going to be long and boring to understand, send me an e-mail and I can send it to ya in ASCII. But if you would rather be racing instead of at the library trying to decipher the unnecessary, then try using this info and enjoy yourself.

CALENDAR Editing for Grand Prix Racing and Cart

CALENDAR editing in this simulator is alot easier than that of any of the Nascar games in that you don't have to worry much about using event or the biglogo images. It is real simple, and here is what the original calendar looks like......
3 19 0 0 AUSTRAL 1995
4 2 0 0 PHOENIX 1995
4 9 0 0 LONGBCH 1995
4 23 0 0 NAZARETH 1995
6 4 0 0 MLWAUKEE 1995
6 11 0 0 DETROIT 1995
6 25 0 0 PORTLAND 1995
7 9 0 0 ELKHART 1995
8 99 0 0 XXXXXXXX 9999

Now the first thing that is noticed as to the Nascar calendar is that it doesn't start off using the "SNAME" at the top. As for the layout of each race, it is done the same as Nascar calendars with the dates first and then the track name (spelled the same as the track folder). Now the last thing seen is the numbers "1995" which represent the year for this calendar to be used. Now you can change the year on the calendar and add more tracks in the same fashion as shown in the original, but the game lacks the chance to swap between two or more calendars to race with. If someone knows of a way to have the use of two calendars, let me know.
