This is kind of knotgrass: Annual plant belonging to the dock family. The bases of the small lance-shaped leaves enclose the slender stems, giving a superficial resemblance to grass. Small pinkish flowers are followed by seeds that are eaten by birds. Knotgrass grows worldwide except in the polar regions. (Polygonum aviculare, family Polygonaceae.) It is found on bare ground including seashores. Often low-growing, it may have stems up to 2 m/6 ft long.(from Dictionary of plants ) |
