Stourcastle
Or Sturminster Newton
This was where Thomas and Emma lived for two years in a semi-detached villa not far from the river Stour which supplied power to the Mill. Often they would take a boat out on the river. Later, Hardy was to refer to their time there as ‘A Two Year Idyll’.
A pleasant little market town to the east of Blackmoor Vale - Vale of the Little Dairies in ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’ but it was in the Vale of the Great Dairies that Tess met Angel Clare whilst working at Talbothays Dairy.

This is the Mill on the river Stour at Sturminster Newton.  The Minster in the name of the town comes from the fact that there used to be a priory here.
