  1. Secretary’s Report

1.       In response to proposed Rail Users meeting JTCC have submitted request for half hourly service at Thorntonhall Station. Letter advises this cannot be done as ‘making every service call at Thorntonhall would remove the present margin for late running’. – George to write back disagreeing.

2.       Copies of ‘Scottish Outdoor Access Code’ summary leaflets available. We have also been sent a copy of the full Code.

3.       Information received from SLC on Election of New Community Council Office bearers, to take place on Tuesday 25th October. Chairperson is to advise all Members of election, and that all present Office bearers will stand down at that time. First action thereafter is appointment of Returning Officer, during May / June.

4.       Booklet about ‘Freedom of Information Act’ has been received.

5.       Consultation document issued in connection with Public Call Boxes. Community Councils have right of veto on removal of last P C B from site.

6.       Information received regarding Awards Scheme for ‘Standing up to antisocial behaviour’. Leaflets available.

7.       Telephone Directories delivered to Thorntonhall recently do not have local numbers – this is Clyde Valley Edition, and G74 5** numbers will be included in this Area from next edition. This means that in future Thorntonhall residents will not have Glasgow South numbers available, unless separate directory for South Glasgow is ordered at £10. Should approach to BT be made about this change, to try to have entries kept in South Glasgow Book? – Decision was to try and stay in South Glasgow

8.       Information available regarding Association of Scottish Community Councils’ website          ( www.thelocalchannel.co.uk ).

  1. Treasurer’s Report

    2. Kerbs to be at required standard on GSO
    3. On the 1.2 metre footpath I have received a letter from Tina Meikle which states and I quote: "due to the limitation of the land available to the front of the property, "The Sheddons", the footpath will be constructed at a reduced width of 1.2 metres across the frontage of this property to meet the existing footpath on Braehead Road ".
    4. Dog poo bin now on Braehead road outside number 26.

  2. AOB
    1. GSO – update

1.       Next site meeting is 12th May

2.       Eaglesham Round Table, McMillan Cancer Relief, and M77/GSO Project Team are organising ‘Run the Road’, which is sponsored walk, run, or cycle along the new GSO on Sunday 24th April, before it opens to road traffic. 5km and 10km routes will be available. Entry Forms from www.runtheroad.org

b.       JTCC elections to be held in October.  Returning officer required.  Nominations for this invited.

c.       Sgt Walker answered many of the questions the residents had been asking.

1.       Thorntonhall has no dedicated police officer, but Sgt Walker can allocate someone where necessary.  Number if necessary – 01355 564000.

2.       Peel Road – risk assessment to be undertaken.  SLC to be approached about road calming methods

3.       Biking at Peel / Waterfoot Road junction ongoing.  Noise is not an offence, but abuse is.  Litter on private land not an offence.  Parking not an offence unless they are obstructing a road.

4.       Building dirt on the road – contractors claim to clean road at end of working day.  First step is to contact contractor if there is a problem.

5.       Encountering thieves.  Law different from England .  There is a citizen’s power of arrest and a right to protect your person and property.  If one strikes first blow, one may be liable to being accused of assault.

6.       Neighbourhood watch.  Sgt Wallace will arrange an adviser to visit JTCC to reactivate the neighbourhood watch in the area.
