- Land
Reform Act – passed on 23rd January 2003. Alistair
Stewart brought the details of the Right to Buy aspect of this
act to our attention. On creation of a limited company,
there may be the opportunity for community groups to register an
interest of land around them. It was agreed to follow this
through with local contacts.
- Hedge
Trimming and local appearance – Brian Reid raised the issue of
local tidiness and the frequency of the SLC activities in this.
Councillor McCann had promised the council would be trimming
publicly owned hedges twice every year. Local residents
are responsible for their own property, although SLC can trim
hedges and bill residents for the work.
- Rights
of Way – Michael West has produced a map showing the rights of
way already registered and also highlighted paths that would
benefit from protection. Anyone knowing of such paths
should contact Michael.
- PLI result – this is now expected by South
Lanarkshire towards the end of March, with no public comment
being made before June 2003.
- Dog Fouling – Mr and Mrs Oldroyd raised the
question of dog fouling. It was agreed that this was a
nuisance and causing problems for children and adults alike.
The matter of trying to persuade dog owners to clean up after
their pets would be raised in the next Peel News.
- Roads in Thorntonhall – we have received a
response (click for more info.)
from SLC regarding their earlier visit to the area. They
propose to rectify various small defects on footpaths and roads
in the village, while looking at the immediate danger posed by a
lack of barrier on the railway bridge. The finger post
will be replaced in April. Full details on the website or
from a Comcil member.
