PHYSOC
Physoc, (Physics
Society), is a student run society based in the Department of Physics at The
University of Liverpool.
Last year 2001/2002
Physoc was successfully reborn after a couple of years absence.
On the social side we
had many pub crawls, Christmas & end of year parties, and a pub quiz in the
Student Guild Liver Bar.
Dr. Dickson organised a science night at the local
Augustus John pub and a very drunken musical evening where a few
students/post-grads/lecturers got up and performed a few little acts.
Although we do enjoy the social side of things, (maybe a bit to much), we do have a few educational
events such as a trip to Geneva last year to visit CERN,
the international particle physics complex, and we regularly have many IoP
presenters from Liverpool & other universities.
Our aims for this year
include repeating our successful social and educational events, and expanding
them further.

IoP
The Institute of
Physics holds regular events at the University of Liverpool.
A program of lectures
& talks for 2002/2003 can be found on the Physoc Notice Board in the
Chadwick Lab, Dept of Physics.
Last year's talks
included Supermassive black holes, the Hubble Space
Telescope, the physics of Mobile Phones and consideration of their related
health issue.
This year topics are, amongst others; Climate Prediction, Plate Tectonics, and
the Birth of Flight Control with the Wright Brothers, which includes a visit to
the Liverpool flight simulation facilities.
More information
can be found here on our IoP page.

The society is open to
all students at Liverpool University and costs just £3 for a years membership.
Membership to the Institute of Physics is £20 for the length of your
undergraduate degree course.
