EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Hidden and Extra Curriculum:

Visits to places of educational interest play an important part in bringing our curriculum to life. These may be locally centred for example, maths trail around our nearest street, or an environmental lesson in Castle Park. These visits may also be regional such as Wigan Pier, Chester and Styal. Inevitably, such locations require coach travel and, possibly, admission fees. Where costs are incurred, we ask parents for a contribution and no child is ever prevented from going on financial grounds. However, the school reserves the right to cancel any such visit which may become financially unviable.

Residential Field Visits:

Our Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to take part in a Residential Field Visit to the Lake District. This visit takes place during their final term at St Luke's. Our Year 2 pupils takes part in a one night Residential Field Trip in Delamere Forest, staying at the Fox Hall Education Centre.

In addition to these activities planned to excite the School Curriculum, the children are offered a variety of hidden and extra-curricular activities. Out hidden curriculum is built around a tremendous parental involvement, providing baking, music, calligraphy, needlework, art, library amongst others. The extra-curricular life of the school offers opportunities in Netball, Soccer, Rugby, Athletics, Cricket, Guitar, Recorder, Information Technology, Country Dancing, Drama, Badminton and French.

Representative teams are organised for many sports and our school carries a strong history of sporting success.

Musically, the children are also able to take tuition via St Luke's Music School. This enables children of all ages the chance to learn to play a musical instrument. Our numbers of children playing an instrument are growing strongly.

St Luke's Link Club:

We have a thriving before and after Link Club where care is provided by dedicated staff in a fun, but secure environment. The Link Club staff work closely with parents to cater for individual requirements, where appropriate, offering peace of mind for working parents, enabling them to deliver and collect their child from school at a time to suit their work commitments.

Play Den Pre School:

Children from 2 years 6 months are provided for at Play Den Pre School where we aim to achieve, "Desirable Outcomes for Children's Learning" (Nursery Education, School Curriculum and Assessment Authority). The children develop their natural skills and abilities in a happy, caring, stimulating environment, along with their peers. Close links are forged with school with regular visits to our Reception class together with Fun Fit sessions in our school hall and invitations to join us for school class assemblies. Full funding is available for any child following their fourth birthday.

Parents and Tots:

A lively Wednesday morning session in our school hall provides a meeting place for parents to have coffee and make friends while their children play.
